  • What parts of Las Vegas do you feel uncomfortable going to.

I don't like parking at out of the way parking lots or Casinos where there is a lot of riff raff.

Walking at night between Wynn and Stratosphere.
Walking North of Stratosphere to Fremont - Anytime.
Walking anywhere off of Fremont at night.
Walking more than a block from Fremont during the day.

I felt a little uncomfortable exercise walking on Fremont Street at 6 a.m.

Lots are strange characters out at that time.

          Hotel hall

I was just at the Mirage a few weeks ago. I felt creeped out walking by myself from the elevator to my room that was at the very end of the hall. This is because of a specific incident. I got into the elevator and a woman joined me. I pressed my floor number and she pressed a floor a few above mine. I got out on my floor and she did too. And then she followed me down the hall getting closer and closer behind me. If I didn't live in an urban setting where I have learned to become more aware of my surroundings or had been drinking or just plain not paying attention I am not sure what (if anything) would have happened but I felt menaced. So I said patted my pockets, said DARN IT! And suddenly turned around like I had forgotten something and headed back towards the elevator. I passed the woman and she kept going to the end of the hall and went to the stairwell and left the floor that way. I felt a little weird going back to the room by myself after that!

            Las Vegas uncomfortable?

I must say, that 20 years of coming to Vegas, I have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe anywhere. Granted, I don't really venture away from the Strip while walking. I have been downtime on Fremont Street a couple of times late at night, but unless I am hanging out under the canopy, I don't really go anywhere else. The Strip to me is very safe, at least I feel that way. That being said, and I am not being sarcastic, I have lived in Brooklyn, NY most of my life, since I was a little kid. Living in Brooklyn, and walking the streets here, makes Vegas nothing to be afraid of, for me personally. I guess living in neighborhoods like Brooklyn toughens one up a little bit, and makes us aware of our surroundings at all times. So I also feel it depends where you come from.

              Creepy parking lots

I don't feel safe in the parking lots downtown, especially at night - for example, the Plaza and the Golden Nugget. Or walking around near Fremont Street late at night. Also don't feel safe at Silver Sevens - there are homeless and crackheads hanging around outside and in the parking lot.

Wow, you're from Brooklyn also? Nice!! Maybe you're right, but like I said, I never venture to those places, so I'm sure there are seedy parts around Vegas as well.

                  Just be aware

I can't think of anywhere I have been uncomfortable in Las Vegas....but like any town of any size, just don't venture out
away from the high traffic areas.

                      Uncomfortable

We have never stayed downtown but we have had some very uncomfortable experiences with aggressive panhandlers in and around the casinos we have visited, especially at night. We have not felt uncomfortable on the strip until our last two visits. The homeless and panhandlers have become quite aggressive and have increased in number. I refuse to be intimidated by their aggression but since I'm in my 70's I do all I can to avoid them.

                        A Little Ruse

If i see shady characters hanging around the parking area, or exit doors, I have a little ruse I use sometimes.
I turn to the man I'm with and say "If you hadn't blown all of your money we could eat someplace besides Mc Donald's damn you" or I will say "Well, I am SICK of losing my money all the time in these places" and I wear angry face. I'm rarely alone outside a casino, but a few burly dudes or one with a gun will think nothing of robbing a couple. I'm trying to wear light jackets with inside pockets so I don't have a purse on me.

While I like going to Dino's lounge I take a taxi, cause anywhere north of the Stratosphere/Oakey St can give you the chills especially late at night.

                            Freemont Area

Always very careful after dark off the Main. Son is a police officer and nervous to pick up his car parked just off Freemont. Often stay at El Cortez and feel safe walking back and forth from that area to Freemont. Again, all responsible for own safety and watch alcohol intake and be alert of your surroundings.

Saw a segment on the local news recently that says the proliferation of ear bud wearers is a "win" for the bad guys. People are less aware of their surroundings, easier victims.
