    The Superbowl in Las Vegas

31 Ways to Eat and Drink Your Way Through the Super Bowl in Las Vegas by Susan Stapleton

The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Super Bowl LV on February 7. The Buccaneers become the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium in a game that brings reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes vs. the greatest of all time in Tom Brady. And Las Vegas is ready.

Restaurants, sportsbooks, and bars across the city have extravagant packages to watch the game on big-screen TVs with bar food and beer. Others are taking the current pandemic into consideration with takeout dishes that can be ordered in advance.

Keep in mind that Nevada has COVID-19 restrictions in place that call for mandatory reservations, 25 percent capacity at restaurants and bars, social distancing between tables, and mandatory face coverings when not eating or drinking. The Nevada Gaming Control Board notes that the state’s directive also calls for gaming properties to maintain 25 percent capacity or 50 people maximum, whichever is less, for gatherings and intends to not only enforce that directive, but investigate and possibly discipline casinos that don’t follow COVID-19 guidelines.

So those who intend to sit in a venue to watch the game should make reservations early, or plan to order takeout for a safer party at home.

Announcing the "Brian Christopher Slots at the Plaza" Gaming Area

Brian Christopher Slots and the Plaza Hotel & Casino announced the debut of the “Brian Christopher Slots at the Plaza” gaming area in Downtown Las Vegas. This first of its kind collaboration will make the Plaza the ultimate destination for slot machine enthusiasts from around the world looking to play the games they’ve watched on Brian Christopher’s YouTube and Facebook.

The space will feature the favorite slot machines of Brian Christopher, a successful video creator and influencer with over half a million followers on his social media channels. Christopher is known for his upbeat and educational videos featuring slot machines and casinos around the world. Each game in the space was carefully selected based on the most iconic moments from over four years. Opening with 16 slot machines and more installing in coming weeks, the space’s featured games include Cleopatra II, Dollar Storm, Lightning Zap, Huff N Puff, and more, all of which are listed on http://www.bcslotsatplaza.com/ with clips of Brian playing each game.

Christopher will preview the area during a YouTube live stream Wednesday and Thursday January 27-28, at 5 p.m. Pacific. and officially open the area with a ribbon cutting on Friday, January 29th, at 4:30 p.m. PST. Media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting. All health and safety precautions will be followed, including mandatory face coverings and social distancing. Media should RSVP in advance to Britt Carter with BCSlots.com via email at [email protected].

“For years, my fans have been asking which games were my favorite, and now I finally have a place where they can experience it for themselves,” says Christopher. “The new Brian Christopher Slots at the Plaza is like having my own miniature casino. I hand selected the games that represent everything I love about playing slot machines. They’re exciting, enticing, fun, and, if you’re lucky, profitable!”

“Social media has transformed the casino experience, and we are very excited to partner with Brian on this unique space that I know our guests will enjoy,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino.

In addition, Christopher is known for giving away “lucky wristbands” to fans who find him in a casino. Gamblers previously had to be in the right place at the right time to get this souvenir, which many believe bring them luck. Now for the first-time ever, players in the Brian Christopher Slots at the Plaza area will have the opportunity to receive an exclusive keepsake wristband with Christopher’s signature for earning just 100 points on their Plaza Rewards player’s card, while supplies last.

“This is another step forward for the BC brand,” says Christopher. “We’ve always been a forward-thinking company and we’re very thankful that the Plaza is too. I can’t wait to get in there and start playing those games. It’s my own personal playground that I may never leave, though I’m willing to share!”

HARRAH’S LAS VEGAS REMAINS FOCUSED ON LIVE ENTERTAINMENT by Brock Radke

Since the audience must be 25 feet away from the stage, the first few rows of seats are populated by mannequins wearing wigs and funny T-shirts. But that’s not as striking as the fact that this show usually takes place in the much smaller House of Tape on the casino floor—or the way you’re now greeted by the silent star of the show himself, somewhat out of costume and character.

Since relaunching Tape Face in November with a preshow Q&A session, “We’ve become even more relaxed,” says Sam Wills, creator of the Tape Face show and character. “We do the meet-and-greet thing, but I’m onstage from the moment the audience comes in now, and we just hang out and chat. It’s a chance for me to host and introduce the other characters, and a chance to get a feel for what the audience will be like and to subliminally program a few people to behave in certain ways [that] I hope will make the show go better. Everything serves a purpose.”

Nearby at Harrah’s Cabaret, dancers of X Country, the first Strip casino show to return to action last year, perform Thursday through Sunday (with two shows Fridays and Saturdays) while wearing transparent masks and can’t mingle with their audience the way they used to. As capacity restrictions have fluctuated since the fall, X Country has consistently sold as many tickets as has been allowed, leading to the recent return of its sister show X Burlesque at the Flamingo.

Oldest Las Vegas casino, Golden Gate, celebrates 115 years on Fremont Street by Brian Horwath/LV Sun

Casino owner Derek Stevens has talked a lot in recent months about downtown’s newest resort, Circa Las Vegas.

Today, he reflected on its oldest, the Golden Gate, which is celebrating its 115th anniversary this week. Stevens and his brother, Greg, own both Fremont Street properties.

“The Golden Gate’s address is 1 Fremont Street,” Stevens said. “It’s the oldest building in Las Vegas. I think that’s pretty cool. I feel fortunate that I get to be a part of it a little bit.”

As he spoke outside the Golden Gate, a passerby in a business suit yelled out to him.

“Your new casino is amazing, Mr. Stevens,” the man said.

Eldorado Casino to Return to Henderson as The Pass by Bradley Martin

The largest of Henderson’s three Water Street casinos is slowly headed back to action, shuttered since last March, but returning with a new look, owner, and name.

Sold by Boyd Gaming Corp. to DeSimone Gaming last December for an undisclosed sum, the Eldorado filed paperwork to begin an exterior makeover and install new signage to reveal it will be renamed as The Pass Casino.

A nod to owner Joseph DeSimone’s other casino property, the 89-year-old Railroad Pass Casino, The Pass plans a modern and Art Deco design palette, including an attractive satin finish with a blue, bronze, and white color scheme, the restoration of the neon star looming over the front entrance, and adding an LED display board above the front door.

The proposed changes also remove signs that previously promoted “great food” and a “$7.77 Steak & shrimp” deal at Mary’s Diner, the casino's retro-inspired, sole dining space.

DeSimone took over the Railroad Pass Casino, located seven miles to the southeast, back in 2014, creating the DeSimone’s Steakhouse and upgrading the 24/7 Iron Rail Cafe.

Yet to share if the Pass intends to overhaul its own restaurant options, next door neighborRainbow Club & Casino reopened its doors last fall, returning with successful new restaurant Triple B — Brooks Brothers Burgers from chef Scott Pajak.

An estimated opening date for The Pass Casino has not been announced.

The 25 Most Important Restaurant Openings in Las Vegas in 2020 by Susan Stapleton
The year brought new steakhouses, a lot of Mexican food, tacos, and plenty of casual options

Even during a pandemic, more than 100 restaurants opened in Las Vegas in 2020. The breadth of Asian cuisines in Las Vegas only grew with robata grills, omakase specialists, and more. Casual restaurants such as Take It Easy, the Taco Stand, and Más Por Favor added to the diversity of Chinatown, while neighborhoods in Summerlin and on Water Street in Henderson landed new restaurants those areas desperately needed. Downtown’s new Vegas Test Kitchen gives diners a chance to try out new restaurants before the owners commit to a location, while the arrival of Circa on the Fremont Street Experience brings chef Barry Dakake back to the kitchen and Dan Coughlin offering his take on Asian fare. Even the Strip landed a new steakhouse, robot servers, an over-the-top karaoke lounge, and an ode to pizza and cake from Cake Boss Buddy Valastro. Here now are the 25 most important restaurant openings in 2020.
