Plaza Hotel & Casino officially debuts new Luxe rooms and suites

Exemplifying the growth of downtown Las Vegas, the Plaza Hotel & Casino celebrated its new Luxe guest rooms and suites with City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, and invited guests who had the opportunity to tour and toast downtown’s newest premium hotel accommodations featuring redesigned floor plans paired with a variety of high-end décor, technology and energy efficiency upgrades.

“Downtown Las Vegas is booming – it’s evolving and growing,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “We are excited for all the projects from Fremont Street to Symphony Park that will bring more people to downtown looking for memorable experiences. That’s why we created the Luxe rooms and suites, dramatically raising the standard for high-quality hotel rooms in the heart of downtown.”

The $15 million renovation transformed more than 120 guest rooms on the top floors of the Plaza’s North Tower. Significant infrastructure changes were made to create the Luxe rooms that average 325 square feet. For example, adjoining doors were removed to offer more storage options with modern wardrobes, and 16 rooms were combined to create eight new suites.

The rooms’ contemporary décor features warm wood tones and mixed metals with bold colors and graphics. Luxe rooms also have high-end design details, such as laminate flooring with area rugs and a barn door entry into reimagined bathrooms with custom vanities, oversized walk-in showers, quartz counters and a blend of dimensional tiles.

Every room has an Amazon Echo Dot in the alarm clock enabling guests to easily use Alexa commands to check the weather, play music and contact hotel staff for assistance, such as requesting housekeeping, reserving a pool cabana, or making dinner reservations at Oscar’s Steakhouse. Other sought-after guest amenities include a multitude of built-in USB charging ports, a 49-inch flat-screen television with premium cable, a coffee maker and refrigerator. The eight new Luxe suites also include a wet bar, and all Luxe rooms offer stunning mountain views or overlook the high energy activity of Fremont Street.

Each room also has energy efficient LED lighting and an upgraded climate control system that senses when the room is unoccupied to manage settings that save energy without compromising guest comfort. The rooms also have state-of-the-art RFID card entry, a safety feature that has recently been installed in all 1,000 guest rooms at the Plaza.

Luxe Rooms can be booked online at Facebook Live video of the event can be viewed at

Following the success of its innovative gourmet culinary walking tours through Las Vegas’ revitalized downtown and along its desirable Strip, the award-winning Lip Smacking Foodie Tours proudly introduces a brand-new itinerary to its roster – the eclectic “Arts District Lip Smacking Tour.”

On this tour, guests will get a taste of the best the Arts District has to offer as they meet some of its most distinctive chefs. The first stop is Esther’s Kitchen, where the seasonal Italian cuisine is served on handmade tableware fashioned at a pottery studio just steps away from the restaurant. Chef James Trees, a Las Vegas native, has worked under such culinary luminaries as Gordon Ramsay, Eric Ripert, Ray Garcia and Michael Mina. The restaurant, named for his Great-Aunt Esther whose generosity helped him attend the Culinary Institute of America and open his first restaurant, specializes in scratch-made pastas, pizzas and breads.

At Jammyland, guests will feast not only with their palate, but also their eyes. Former New Yorkers Danielle Crouch and Allan Katz opened this Jamaica restaurant in a converted garage with a spacious patio with twinkling lights featuring two vibrant wall murals, including one that depicts the history of Jamaican music around the globe. Here, guests can groove to Reggae tunes, peruse an extensive rum list, and feast on modern Caribbean fare such as the classic meat patty with curried grass-fed beef enfolded in a turmeric-scented pastry, as well as the popular jerk wings which are marinated for 24 hours and smoked in-house.

Afterward, guests get a chance to stretch their legs while taking in iconic artwork, including “Paintbrush Gateway,’’ Dennis Oppenheim’s two 45-foot tall steel paintbrushes that emit beams of rainbow-colored LED light 2,000 feet skyward. They will also see the thought-provoking “Chain Migration’’ by artist Izaac Zevalking, known as the Recycled Propaganda, which depicts the Statue of Liberty in handcuffs.

The tour excursion ends with a sweet taste of history. At Cornish Pasty Co., Cornwall, England native Dean Thomas continues the tradition of making English, hand-held pies that originated in the 1200s when wives and mothers baked them as a convenient packable lunch for miners. Thomas also serves classic British desserts, including Banoffee Pie made with house-made caramel, fresh bananas and a fluff of whipped cream; Sticky Toffee Pudding; and Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding that features warm, house-baked bread soaked in a rich chocolate-brandy sauce and served crisp on the outside and custardy within.

The new Arts District tour is $125 per person. For an even more elevated experience, guests may add an optional $50 per person beverage package that includes a pre-selected signature cocktail at each stop. Click here for more information.

Plaza Hotel & Casino to give away vintage coin operated slot and video poker machines in October

Paying homage to its vintage Vegas gambling roots, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will have two special casino contests to give away a dozen classic coin machines, including traditional slot, keno and video poker games, some of which are more than 25 years old.

While the coin machines like Joker Poker, Deuces Wild and Catch the Heat have nostalgic popularity, they are not compatible with new slot technologies and cannot track points and play. The vintage machines have also become increasingly harder to maintain. As a result, the Plaza will be taking them out of service and giving them away as part of two casino promotions in October.

A video poker tournament will occur every Tuesday in October. The winner of each week’s tournament will receive a classic coin operated video poker machine as the grand prize. In addition, the Plaza will host a points challenge from Oct. 1 through Oct. 29. Players can earn points throughout the month playing reel slots, video poker and video keno. The eight players with the highest points accumulated over the month will win a coin machine (keno, slot or video poker game).

“These machines are a part of Vegas history, and we wanted to give our locals a chance to have their own piece of our city’s great legacy,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino.

To be eligible to win a machine, participants must be Nevada residents with valid Nevada ID, 21-years of age or older, and members of the Plaza’s Royal Rewards players club. Winners will have seven days to pick up their coin machine and will be responsible for future maintenance. Full contest rules are online.

On the eve of the official opening night of ATOMIC SALOON SHOW’s open-ended Las Vegas engagement on Wednesday, Spiegelworld Impresario Extraordinaire, Ross Mollison received fresh information today that the show has blown away all previous box office records for the company and is set to open with commitments from customers in the millions.

On the back of several five-star reviews from the show’s preview season in the UK, audiences have been filling the Atomic Saloon at the Grand Canal Shoppes inside The Venetian Resort in droves during the past week of preview performances.

“When we opened ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace in 2011, we had sold just two tickets in advance to our company’s matriarch and financial backer, Valerie Julian Mollison…my mum,” shared Mollison. “More recently, in 2018, we were super excited to sell out the first month of shows prior to opening OPIUM at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. But with ATOMIC SALOON SHOW, the combination of a booming Vegas economy and having the right show in the right venue at the right resort, we have seen customer commitments which signal the show is going to be a fixture on the Vegas entertainment landscape for decades to come."

With a venue capacity of just over 230 seats, ATOMIC SALOON SHOW is presented in Spiegelworld’s most intimate venue, which is sure to put pressure on ticket supply as word of mouth continues to spread. The unique feature of the saloon is the wide choice of comfortable private booths where couples or small groups of friends can enjoy delicious cocktail and menu options including small bites while watching the show. There are also four private dining rooms, making the Atomic Saloon the perfect event space for the greatest-ever Vegas celebration – take it from UK-based couple Sam and Kate whose wedding was officiated by Reverend Peabody at the start of the first-ever Las Vegas performance last week. The couple and their friends has such a good time, they stayed to party the night away with proprietress Boozy Skunkton and her saloon staff before heading to the airport for their flight back to the UK.

“We have already had all the group bookers through during this early preview period and are conducting tours daily for convention organizers and meeting planners,” added Mollison. “One prominent group booker commented, ‘Now that Spiegelworld has the three best shows in Vegas, I’m going to need a dedicated box office hotline!’”

Tickets for ATOMIC SALOON SHOW are now on sale for shows through February 2020.

The Fountains of Bellagio have played host to a handful of innovative performances in recent years, from Panic! At the Disco kicking off the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals with a floating mini-concert to this past spring’s Game of Thrones-themed visual spectacular.

Later this month, Bellagio will celebrate its other iconic staple, Cirque du Soleil’s O, with the first-ever acrobatic performances on the surface of the Strip-side lake. Cast members from the 21-year-old masterpiece will perform variations of two of O’s most beloved acts in special afternoon fountain takeovers on September 28 and 29 and again on October 12 and 13.

If that sounds like serious double-duty for Cirque’s incredible performers, it’s only a tease of what’s to come. Beginning in January 2020, O will shift to a seven-night schedule in its 1,800-seat theater at Bellagio, a first for Cirque in Las Vegas. The show is currently dark Mondays and Tuesdays, playing twice a night the rest of the week, a standard schedule for a production of this scale.

After a short trial run in Vegas, the genre-busting production Cherry Boom Boom went on the road. Criss-crossing the country, they set hearts a-sizzle with their own brand of stars-and-stripes titillation. Now they’re back, with the all-new American Woman: A Rock N’ Roll A Go-Go at Hooters.

This untamed update jettisons plot and characters, allowing the ladies to do what they do best. Acrobatic dance numbers feature performers leaping from the stage and filling the showroom. At other times, performers swing from the ceiling and crawl across tables, making it one of the most interactive revues in town. Led by androgynous host P*ssy Control, the gorgeous cast of seven electrifies in a dazzling array of red, white and blue ... and a heaping helping of black leather. An energetic soundtrack from the likes of Morphine, Guns N’ Roses and Jack White will blast you out of your seats. So hold on tight ... Cherry Boom Boom is the absolute bomb!

Most artists who get the opportunity to stage a Las Vegas residency attach catchy titles to their run of shows. For Celine Dion’s initial residency, it was A New Day … while Elton John put the spotlight on his instrument with The Red Piano and, later, The Million Dollar Piano. And when Dion gave a little wink to herself with her second residency Celine, she inspired several of her fellow divas to do the same, including Britney Spears (Piece of Me), Jennifer Lopez (All I Have) and Cher (Classic Cher).

Not to be outdone, a couple of rock bands have gone the “punny” route, with Guns N’ Roses mashing up two of their albums during their Appetite for Democracy residency and Aerosmith going with Deuces Are Wild, which was both a nod to one of their songs as well as this gambling mecca.

But since debuting his residency at Caesars Palace in 2011, Rod Stewart has opted for something simple and succinct: The Hits. While that bland title might make some marketing executives cringe, it’s nonetheless appropriate. After all, that’s precisely what Stewart is known for: writing and performing hit after hit after hit. Sure, each time he takes the stage, the Englishman will mix in a couple of deep cuts from his 31 solo albums, the most recent being 2018’s Blood Red Roses. But when you’ve been behind the mic for 16 singles that cracked the U.S. top 10 (including four that climbed to No. 1)—plus a whopping 31 that reached the top 10 in the U.K. (six of which peaked at the top of the charts)—well, you put together a talented band and you play the dang hits.

Wynn, Encore to offer free valet parking for everyone by Bryan Howarth

Wynn Las Vegas and Encore will start offering free valet parking for everyone later this month. The new policy will take effect Sept. 30.

“Free valet parking is an amenity that is highly appreciated by our guests and we are pleased to offer it to all of our visitors,” Marilyn Spiegel, president of Wynn Las Vegas, said in a statement. “We take pride in providing guests with five-star service and that begins upon arrival at the resort.”

The properties do not charge hotel guests for valet service. But other guests now pay $21 to park for up to two hours, $24 for two to four hours and $30 for up to 24 hours.

Boulder Station celebrates 25 years with music, food and fun by Brock Radke

Station Casinos has used a template to create success with its chain of neighborhood casino resorts sprinkled around the Las Vegas Valley. But while there are similarities between properties and their offerings and programming, each destination has its own style, a sort of personality determined by its location and clientele.

“All the casinos have basically the same slot machines and table games, but for me, both as an operator and a consumer, it’s about the experience,” explains Paul Pippin, general manager at Boulder Station, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this month. “Guests become loyal because of the experience created there. We’ve had amazing customer service scores and feedback from our guests, but there’s always room for improvement and we strive for that each day. Here at Boulder, there are three pillars we live by, and those are service, security and cleanliness. It doesn’t matter how much marketing you do, if you’re not operating at a high level with those three things, the guest doesn’t want to be there.”

Bok Bok Chicken Hatches New Locations in Station Casinos, Town Square

Bok Bok Chicken is getting egg-cited about their biggest expansion yet – three new locations opening in Las Vegas in 2019. The popular fast-casual restaurant serves up classic Mediterranean cuisine from deeply-rooted family recipes with a modern farmhouse twist that brings families and communities together. This expansion marks eight new Bok Bok Chicken restaurants and 12 locations total on the West Coast.

Owner Silva Chamanian started Bok Bok Chicken in 2018, but always possessed a passion for food alongside her Armenian culture. Chamanian has been a restaurant investor for many years at one of the most popular Armenian restaurants in Los Angeles, Carousel, in addition to owning and operating a string of awarded fast-casual brands including The Terrace Sidewalk Café in Downtown Pasadena. Atop of her numerous business ventures, it has been Chamanian’s vision to develop a new restaurant concept in an untapped market on a local, national and international scale. Chamanian and lifetime partner Jacob Tchamanian took family recipes passed down from generations and created a simple menu that highlights Mediterranean flavors in a setting where guests can feel like family. The pair opened the first-ever Bok Bok Chicken in Las Vegas to great reception and quickly expanded as the diverse cultures and neighborhoods throughout the valley presented an opportunity for the brand to share their dishes with a larger community.

September openings include new flagship location plus Station Casinos’ partnership in So. Nevada
Since its debut in August 2018, Bok Bok Chicken has four locations operating in Las Vegas with their fifth and largest location hatching at Town Square in Fall 2019. The new spot will be located across from Total Wine & More and will be the brand’s flagship location, stretching 2,800 square feet. In addition, Bok Bok Chicken has hatched a partnership with Station Casinos, launching two new locations inside their North Las Vegas properties – at Santa Fe Station near the Sports Book and Texas Station inside the Food Court. The Santa Fe location is now open with the Texas Station location on the horizon. Both will feature a few new menu items for guests to try including hand-cut fries and chicken wings. Bok Bok Chicken looks forward to offering their delectable menu at more Station Casinos properties in the near future.

To celebrate the opening of the Santa Fe Station location, Bok Bok Chicken Santa Fe Station is offering 20-percent off to Station Casinos’ Boarding Pass members throughout September.

The Most-Anticipated Restaurant Openings in Las Vegas — Fall 2019 Edition

Las Vegas promises more new restaurants on the horizon, with huge openings from David Chang’s Majordōmo Meat & Fish, The Slanted Door and its modern Vietnamese fare, Sixth + Mill Pizzeria & Bar bringing pizzas to the Strip, and a new sports bar opening at Excalibur. Dim sum rolls into the Palms, and locals’ favorite Dan Krohmer of Other Mama fame has another new restaurant on the way. Chinatown’s Shanghai Plaza isn’t done revealing new eateries and breweries plans to open Downtown. Here’s a look at some of the biggest restaurants opening this fall in Las Vegas.

    More from here:

Emeril Lagasse’s Delmonico Steakhouse celebrated 20 years at the Venetian back in May, and now the classic restaurant with a New Orleans twist plans to spruce up later this fall.

In early November, the steakhouse along Restaurant Row at the resort closes to renovate, planning to reopen in mid- to late December. Delmonico filed paperwork to upgrade its main dining room, the Kitchen Table space, and main facade, filing for $743,000 in estimated construction work alone.

Gordon Ramsay Plans a $1.26 Million Renovation at His Steakhouse on the Strip

Seven years ago, chef and television personality Gordon Ramsay opened his very first restaurant in Las Vegas. Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris Las Vegas brought a roster of beef Wellingtons and sticky toffee pudding along with the excitement of a faux Chunnel squiring diners from Paris to the British steakhouse, a Union Jack on the ceiling, neon created from the movements of Ramsay’s hand while cooking, and an open kitchen for diners to watch their food being made.

Now comes word that the restaurant plans to go through a renovation this fall. Parent company Caesars Entertainment filed paperwork for an estimated $1,260,000 renovation that should be complete by the end of October.

Renovations include an expanded private dining room, new furniture, updated artwork, and a new visual at the end of that Chunnel entrance.

Once the restaurant, which plans to stay open except for a few days during the renovations, will also change up the cocktails, some of the dishes, and desserts.

Dan Krohmer of Other Mama fame opens La Monja with a menu of coastal Mexican fare on Wednesday night. Look for menu items like seafood ceviches, handmade masa, and Nixtamal corn tortillas. La Monja, across from Krohmer’s Hatsumi at Fergusons Downtown, also features a full bar with tequila and mezcal as well as a patio out front.

For the restaurant’s art and decor, Krohmer partnered with his childhood friend, artist Brent Patten, to create a space and vibe representative of the art and culture of their hometown community in Sacramento complete with a mural of a nun, the namesake of the restaurant.

Noel Flores leads the kitchen at La Monja. The Las Vegas native got a head start in the restaurant world when he began working at age 16. He’s worked under chefs such as Jose Andres, Aitor Zabala, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, and Lorena Garcia during his career, and then moved to Mexico City to become a stagiere for Jorge Vallejo’s acclaimed restaurant,
Quintonil. Flores then opened Vegas’ Meso Tortillas, which supplied Nixtamal masa and tortillas to local restaurants.

The pizza oven that uses Saputo Biscotto stones, handmade in Naples Italy, the birth place of the Neapolitan pizza. The heat cooks the dough but leaves it airy and chewy, creating what Ferdinadi calls “equilibrium on the plate” in about 90 seconds.
