Thanks again Steve--quick TR
I always have a great time when Steve comes to town. It almost feels like I'm on vacation, even though I still have to go to work before, after, and in between meetings. I still don't know how Steve can cram so much into just a few days. His organizational and planning skills are unbelievable.
My "vacation week" actually started wed. afternoon in the Clark county health dept. building. I had to take care of one of those things you HAVE TO do, in order to work here--my refresher hepatitus immunization. It made my arm stiff and sore, and I was hoping I'd feel better before going to see LOVE with Steve on thurs. night. By thurs. night, I felt a lot better, but I still didn't have the energy to get out of bed and see Seigfried and Roy's tiger cubs, as I had originally planned. So, I met Steve at the LOVE showroom, and my adventure began. The show was great! Lots of really cool effects, great dancing, and of course, the beatles music. There was even some casual dialogue between the band members. That was interesting. I especially liked the "Help" segment, and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." It was a great time, with great conversation with Steve. He had seen this show before, and we discussed some of the changes that were made. One suggestion, if you go to see this show---take a sweater. The showroom was freezing!
After the show we went to the Cravings buffet. I'm interested to see how Steve reviews this eatery, from his perspective. I personally enjoyed the king crab legs, already cut in half. Steve said they have these daily. Everything else was pretty good too, except for the overly salty prime rib. Maria did a great job keeping our drinks full, so that helped wash away the salty taste. As Steve and I parted for the evening (he only had to walk across the street) I started to sniffle. Oh no! I wasn't getting sick for the slot tournament--please, no!
Well, by friday afternoon I had no voice, and I was constantly sneezing at work. By sat. night, the coughing started, and I still had no voice. Sunday night, I felt a little better, so I ventured off to Fremont St. to tape the 4th of July shows for my nieces and nephew, and I also made a copy for Steve. I was trying to get him to go downtown to see the new and improved shows, but alas, as usual, he already had every minute planned. The shows were America, American Pie, and Queen Tribute. They were all very good, and the DVD actually turned out good too. I also got footage of the motorcyclists from Splash! (in the sphere) I went home early, and got some rest for the slot tournament. It was already feeling like a vacation, even though I was under the weather.
Monday finally arrived! Steve was feeling a little anxious, and nervous. I reminded him to breath, and eat, and everything would be fine. And it was. I handed out name badges, and told everyone where to go to meet Steve. I did my best not to cough or sneeze on anyone, so I was not the social butterfly that I typically am. I enjoyed putting the faces with the names, as I was handing out the name tags. It was great to meet Marty again, and we chatted for awhile over our great lunch.
The red, white, and blue 7's machines were primed and ready to go. So were the players. I don't remember the last time I've seen so much excitement in a room. Everybody seemed to be enjoying each other's company, as they chatted with old friends and new. Round 1 came and went quickly. I did very well, getting 7 red, white and blue 7's. I think my score was 2nd or 3rd high. I felt the adrenaline pumping, and there wasn't a cough or sneeze in sight. Round 2--1 red, white, and blue 7's. Nada, nunca, nuttin'! I had the 3rd from the bottom score in that round. I was out. But I got to cheer everyone on in round 3, and record it on my digital camera. If Steve is able to use any of the footage, I will forewarn you, it came out pretty dark. The tournament wound down, the prizes were handed out, Steve got some last minute hugs, and the crowd slowly dissolved. What a day! But for me, since the adrenaline rush was over, my head felt like it was going to explode. I had to decline Steve's dinner invitation at the Hilton steakhouse. I didn't think I'd be very good company, so I called it a day.
Tuesday, I got the DVD processed at my store, and tuesday night, I dropped it off at the IP, so Steve would have it before he left. As I arrived at the IP, I called Steve to thank him again for the great time. Turns out, he was in route to the IP for dinner, and he had misterkeno (Matthew) with him. Oh good! I was finally going to get to meet misterkeno! When they arrived, I also met Bob Cohen as well. Both gentlemen were very nice. Then Steve, misterkeno, and I were off to a casual dinner, where I talked, and talked, and talked. I was back! Too bad it was 2 days too late!
I had a great time, even though there were a few bumps in the road, and I didn't win the tournament. Maybe next year! Thanks again Steve!! |
