Default Safety and Walking to "off Strip casinos"

Historically My Hubby And I Have Really Had A Ball Walking Back Behind The Strip And Enjoying The Lesser Known Casinos, Ie: Ellis Island And Terribles. I Recall Reading That There Were Some Real Safety Concerns Day And Night About That Geographical Area As Far As Walking After Dark. Anyone Have Any Comments Or Concerns? I Realize We Need To Use Discretion About Walking Off The Beaten Path Downtown, But Are We Safe Walking To Ellis Island, Terribles And The Occasional Trot To Hard Rock Casino? We Have Never Had Any Problems, But Are Visiting Again After More Than Year Lapse. Would Appreciate Any Comments From Informed Persons. Thanks!

Default I've been wondering the same thing!

Planning a December trip, and we kinda wanted to hit up Ellis Island and maybe the Hard Rock, but we'd take a bus or cab, and I'm worried about walking even to get to these "stops".

I'd love some feedback too!

Thanks,

Jen/Halloweengirl

The problem as far as I'm concerned is not the neighborhood, but the distance. You shouldn't be any more concerned for your safety walking to those places than you would walking in any other big city where alcohol flows like the river and people are allowed to bet on the color of Paris Hilton's g-string . . . . The problem is that Paradise Road moves further and further away from the Strip as you get south, and both Terrible's and Hard Rock are mighty far south. Ellis Island will be fine, because it's just a hop from Bally's, but the other two are going to wear you out, unless you just like to walk more than you like to drink and gamble. . . . . .

I just plain would not do this. Walking on the strip is fine but off strip can be another matter. There are a lot of robberies and there have even been some stabbings and shootings and you don't hear about them on the national news. I don't want to be a buzz kill, but since I spend a lot of time at my LV home I hear about a lot more of this on the local news than you will ever know. Enjoy the town but please stay safe and take a cab rather than an unnecessary risk.

There is a really good article on safety on the Strip in today's newsletter. It is under the Q and A section.

While I have no problems going to Ellis Island after dark with my buddies, when my mom and dad said they were considering it, I immediately told them it was a bad idea. It's just too desolate, even if the walk is only a few hundred yards.

Default Walking off the beaten path

As a police officer in some tough places near Los Angeles, I wouldnt walk off the beaten path in Vegas. Even though I can carry my gun there, I still wouldnt. I'm in Vegas to live it up! Not walk too far if I dont have to. You want to see what goes on off the strip, check out www.bumfights.com

Default Safety at off the strip hotels

I gamble at Hard Rock, Terribles & Ellis during the day up to about 6P.M. Hard Rock has a free shuttle from the strip every hour that I use that goes til this time. I can walk a block down the street to Terribles when I get off the shuttle at Hard Rock. Paradise Ave has lots of traffic during the day. I would not recommend walking from the strip to Terribles on Flamingo during the day as there is a lot of vacant land. I walk diagonally across the street from the Westin to Ellis & feel safe during the day as it is a busy area. I do not frequent these places at nite.

What and where is Terribles? I thought that was the name of a gas station chain?
