Best non-household name?

Gregory Popovich and his Pet Comedy Theater. We saw him 10 years ago at Circus Circus as a free show upstairs and was astounded by his trained housecats. Mr. Popovich is also a very talented juggler and does a great balancing act on top of a standard ladder. Now he's in the Miracle Mile but still worth a look.

Some of the trapeze acts at Circus circus are also worthy of mention. The Flying Cavarettas, who moved to the Tropicana, were one of our favorites.

Back in '92 or '93 when Jay Mohr (Gary Unmarried) was not well known, we saw him at "Improve at Harrah's." His jokes were funny and 'clean' which impressed me immensly.

Cool The Scintas

The Scintas @ The Rio was always a knock down drag out hoot. I saw them many, many times and sent many friends of all ages there always with positive comments.

I saw them again at The Hilton in their scaled down, LOL, (or Laugh Out Loud), show which I enjoyed however, I preferred the larger show at The Rio. Loved that mama Scinta was always in the crowd, every show.

I miss them. It's rare to be able to find a show you can take grandkids to grandparents too and have all enjoy.

For those of you interested in following them, you can always get your Scintas fix here: http://www.thescintas.com/

Cool Uh... "D", or "E", can be "A+"

Carl Ferris lays it down with his sax and voice for free on Freemont Street 4 or 5 nights a week, as long as it's not raining. His original: "Play for an Angel" is not to be missed! Also, try to catch the female singer Treasury Guffy and her band, either on Freemont or in any of the more rockin bars.
Oh yea, one more thing: Vegas gets the BEST tribute bands...Creedence fans shouldn't miss "Bad Moon Risin", and U-2 fans will think "Rattle-n-Hum"
are the real thing...
And then yet another one more thing, the Jefferson Starship concert this summer was GREAT!

I didn't pay a cent to enjoy these great musicians while in Vegas! So forget your "ABC"'s, check out the bar bands and street performers. Vegas "E-Listers" equal the "A" list in most towns!!! (Much like the quality of the country bar bands anywhere near Nashville...)

Good advice for FREE!

Default Live music

The Deadly Seven downtown...raw rock by newcomers that I've heard are now under contract. There are lots of interesting and often great little bands at the Doubledown Saloon, including the great Uberschall who are moonlighting members of Blue Man Group.
A completely different musical experience is downtown at Don't Tell Mama. It's not my usual cuppa but if you want to see talented singers belting it out in a cozy venue this is the place. This isn't drunken slobs singing karaoke and it's def. worth a stop.

Can't ignore Cook E Jar and the cover bands at Carnaval Court but I suspect they're not nearly as interesting in another venue

I really enjoy the Rat Pack shows, especially the original at the Sahara. Loved Clint Holmes, wish he would be playing somewhere again. Also Jimmy Hopper in his short run at Planet Hollywood, upstairs. And a band called Next Movement (I think) that played in that upper deck area at Aladdin.

Jimmy Hopper
Dian Diaz
Society of Seven
Clint Holmes
Kelly Clinton ( Mrs. Clint Holmes these days!)
Phoenix ( the rock band)
In-a Fect and Next Movement for motown and R&B sounds
Peter Monroy band at the Venetian La Scena lounge

We just saw a great show (comped to us) at Imperial Palace - Human Nature - a group of white guys from Australia do a Motown Show that is exellent. 90 mins. of singing and dancing every Motown song you can think of. Won't be long they'll move them to a bigger venue. The cost of a ticket would be well worth the money. PS: It's promoted by Smokey Robinson.
