T-38 hours. Getting there soon. To bad it's going to be a little cooler during the next week. I like those temperaturs in the high 70's low 80's. Mid 60's doesn't sound quite good enough for some pool time.

We depart on Sunday for the Beau Rivage. The free air, accommodations and free play for us are simply irresistible for this lovely casino. We have had our best ever gaming trips here. We have one reservation; Tropical Storm Ida is entering the Gulf of Mexico even at this late date of the hurricane season. They really don’t know yet where it will hit, they guess Tampa Bay, but it’s simply a tropical storm, not a hurricane. What haunts me is that our younger son and his wife left for the Beau on August 23rd, 2005. Katrina had broken into the Gulf and threatened Tampa Bay. When our kids left the Beau on the 26th, everyone there wished them God Speed as the storm appeared imminent for our homes here in Florida. Three days later, Katrina leveled Biloxi with a 23’ storm surge after reaching a Cat 5 level the day before. The Beau was heavily damaged and closed for a year afterwards. Ida is no Katrina but we could experience a delay in returning home. We will call them for one last advisory before we depart in the morn. We never expected this in November.

Frank, so sorry you couldn't be here today. It was actually HOT in the sunlight. That's what happened to me on my 1 day staycation. 66 and windy by late afternoon when I checked in.

BG and I went to bed last night apprehensive about the uncertainty of our trip to the Beau with the threat of Ida looming. We didn’t sleep well and were both awake at 5:00am this morning. We started tracking the weather immediately after we got up and saw that Ida had become a hurricane and the cone of its path was centered just west of Biloxi. The worst of any tropical storm or hurricane is to the right of the eye which is exactly where Biloxi was in the path of Katrina. The forecast expects Ida to intensify into a Category 2 hurricane by tomorrow and then weaken as it continues north. As of this evening, the storm has 100mph winds. They believe that it will weaken by Tuesday into a tropical storm but pressed up against the High drifting south they expect this circumstance to create an unusual occurrence, a strong easterly wind creating a chance of flooding along the entire northern Gulf. We do not expect there to be wind damage in Biloxi nor do we expect the Beau Rivage itself to be flooded however there is a chance of coastal flooding requiring the Beau to evacuate its property. Beach Boulevard in front of the Beau is all of 5’ above average high tide. If this road floods and there is no access to the beach casinos, they must evacuate them. Where does one go in this circumstance, probably to a school gymnasium 30 miles north of Biloxi.

Our bags were packed and sitting by the front door as we were prepared to leave. We awaited the 8:00 am update after which I called the Beau. The person at the Beau I spoke with could not have been nicer. She lived thru Katrina and her home on the Back Bay was flooded. She was unaware of the update on Ida and to be honest, I frightened her with it. We must have spoken for 20 minutes. She promised that she was going to watch the updated advisories after our conversation. We cancelled the trip. We were both very disappointed but we knew that this was one gamble that we were not willing to make. I looked at BG and said, let’s go to Hard Rock. We did spending the day there. We both walked out winners after we both hit aces with a kicker. BG caught another ace quad to boot. We are up in the air as to what we do next. We believe we made the right decision.

T-9 days and counting.

Can't wait to take my wife to In N Out for the first time. Also planning to eat at Hugo's Cellar, Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab, Batista's, Sunday Brunch at Envy, Mamacita's, and that awesome sandwich place whose name escapes me but it's right outside of Neonopolis.... California something or other?

I can't wait. I need a vacation.

I finally have a trip to Vegas in the works. I made my plane reservations and will think about where I want to stay next and the shows I want to see. I'll be in Vegas Jan 15-20 and can't wait!
