Default Craps

I like to play craps. Can be fun and at the same time frustrating. Where do you like to play and where where have you had the most success. I am staying at South Point this time around but have never played there. Any thoughts?

Heya WACO...

Well, the SOUTH POINT isnt my choice for craps to be honest. They have the horrible DOUBLE ODDS. And, since you know how to play - i'm sure you can agree that 'those' are awful. Although, i did have one dice session with a great stickman there a couple years back. More about that later. Otherwise, the SOUTHPOINT is a pretty good property. Oh, except for the buffet.

For dice:

I dont like GOLD COAST as much as i used to. The tables (the surface below the felt) is absolutely rock hard. You get this eerie sound when the dice land. Half of the dealers i once knew are now gone, etc. They used to have 4 tables when the economy was good. No fault of their own of course... but, the atmosphere seems just terrible. Three tables now. You can find $5 minimums there 99% of the time - that's a good thing. 3x4x5x

I like the ORLEANS ... 6 tables here... 85% of the time it's $5 tables. They have anywhere from 1 to 6 open depending on the time. But, most mornings, afternoons, weekends - it's at least 4. Fri & Satur night it will most likely be all 6. Dealers are pretty good. The boxmen are solid & welcome you in with a genuine greeting & such (even if you have a RUBY card, lol, like myself). I can get a comp here if i ask after 45 min of play. 3x4x5x.

I'm a big fan of the MSS... they've got the long tables here. Almost always 2 (of the 3 are open). The EAST table is where i've seen some legendary rolls. You have pretty knowledgeable players here... so you wont see that much 'sloppy play'--and hands getting in the way. Dealers are great, it's VERY RARE that they'll have a break-in dealer here. The game is kept moving at a good pace, even with people elbow to elbow around the hook. 20x odds (with $5 min.) - what more could you ask for. Drink service is excellent.

The FOUR QUEENS has been pretty good as of late. It's not fancy at all in there, but, things could be worse... right? For some reason i seem to have some luck in there. Sometimes, the table goes to $3 minimum. Nice. 5x (no matter what the point is) The bar is only 12 feet from the table -- so, you'll be kept saturated!!

The I.P. ... their tables are pretty soft here. The dealers are familiar faces from the 4 years i've lived here. It's a short time -- but, nice hearing your name as you walk up & they remember you----and vice versa! $5 minimum almost all the time. Might got to $10 on a fri/sat night. They've got the fire bet. And, i've gotta say i've seen 5/6 numbers... and 6/6 numbers hit here more than anywhere else. Good drink service. Only thing i dont care for... is the Dealertainers (even being 50 feet away), they can get a bit loud when you're trying to hear the stick. 3x4x5x

O'SHEA'S. It's dingy in there... but, what can you do. During the day you can get a spot on the rail with elbow room. $5 minimum a lot of the time.

CASINO ROYALE. Bet nickels (or higher) and you'll get the 100x odds if that's your cup of tea. The tables can turn into the super bowl/mardi gras/fiesta/you name it... with the younger crowd filling up the table. Pretty good dealers though. If you dont want $10 minimums on the strip -- this is one of the last few places to hit. Myself, i'll take Imperial over this place.

PALAZZO. I like the casino a lot. Can i afford to gamble here, no i cant. You can find a $10 table most of the time (as long as it's not a fri/sat night). The dealers are excellent. The tables -- i believe there are 8 of them are new & well lit from above. The drinks arent watered down. And, the air in this place is very very clean (misterKeno likes that). One time (one time only 14 months ago) i saw a $5 table in there. So, dont expect that!!! Often, you can expect to see green/black chip players alongside you. Also, the tables seem to draw in pretty knowledgeable players - which is good. So, you wont see too many delays in your dice action (nor the bum who throws out a "2 dollar big red, please" in the middle of a smokin-hot roll. 3x4x5x

BELLAGIO. If i could, i'd play here a lot. It's just great. Dealers that just dont make mistakes. Drinks that come strong and often. They dont fool you with substitute liquors. It's like the PALAZZO. You'll see $10/$15 minimums often. Tables are very well lit. They're the shorter tables, and i dont have a problem with that actually. Often, they'll have an abundance of tables open... even if it's not busy --- so, you can go to new felt if you're having a bad time at an iceberg!!! 3x4x5x

LV HILTON... yeah, it's off the strip, but, really - just behind the RIVIERA. So, go out their backdoor & you'll be air conditioned most of the way. Speaking of the RIVIERA --- do not play here. You will get dealers on a (2x odds table mind you!!) frequent basis begging you 'vocally' for tips. And, that's even after 10 minutes of play --- even if you're losing. Horrible horrible place for dice. Back to the LV HILTON... pretty good game here, nice dealers. Fun too - the stickmen are pretty jovial... makes for a fun time. $10 minimum most of the time. Once in a blue moon they'll drop down to $5... so keep an eye out. 3x4x5x

Well, that will give you a few things to look at, WACO. There are so many things that can make a game fun... winning is one of them. You're likely to win at any table --- just as you are to lose. So, if you want to rely on superstition & luck you've had in the past -- i have NOOO problem with that!

The stickman plays a large role in the 'fun' of the table. The lingo, the on-liners, you name it. I had one at MANDY BAY last year... that was so f'ing funny, i'm surprised us players didnt roll over on the ground (our sides were just splitting!). Ahhh, it was great.

I've got a hundred stories for you. But, this one (getting back to the SOUTH POINT) was a funny guy. It was an afternoon & there were about 6 or 7 players at the table. The stick & a few of us notice a parade of some youth team (i dont know.. volleyball, soccer, or something) walking thru the casino towards the elevators. Well, the stick pulls the dice back from the shooter and... in an ELEVATED VOICE... lol... says to the girls (prolly 13 or 14 yrs old) "listen, girls... remember stay in school, get good grades, do what your parents tell you, go to college...." and "for god's sake, dont end up like these drunks, bums, and losers you see standing at this table!" The girls kept walking and giggling. Lol, and the whole table just fell apart in laughter!!

Mister K, a question if you don't mind:

Every time I have been there, the Royale has the $5 minimum on the craps table, but I heard that they go to $3 minimum during certain times.

I read somewhere that when the table is $3 minimum, they only go to 20X odds. Can you still get 100X odds if it is a $3 minimum table, but are betting $5? (I have never gone full 100X odds, but have gone over 20X on hot rolls, so I was just curious. Thanks for the great summary of the tables at all those casinos you reviewed, BTW. Very informative!

Eddie, yes you can get the 100x odds 24/7 (but MUST BET $5 minimum).

If the table happens to be a $3 minimum:
$3 wagers get (up to) 20x
$5 wagers & higher get up to 100x

Hope that helps you out.

Myself, most i've ever taken was (i think) 14x odds... on a point of '4' -- sure glad i hit it!!!

While CR has good craps odds, I found the novice players there a bit annoying. Once, I had all the numbers covered (come bets) with odds and two knuckleheads were screaming for a "7" on the point. When I told them that would wipe out my come bets, and the karma called for cheering for an "11", they refused. Bad karma at the craps table ruins it for all of us. They might as well toss a black cat on the table.

Was the shooter on a come out roll ? Or were they wrong bettors that wanted the shooter to seven out and NOT make the point? Most wrong bettors are pretty quiet people.

I usually place my points instead of placing come bets to get my numbers working. Then on comeing out rolls my numbers are not working and off. If the table gets cold I take my numbers down.

I agree that you find a lot more novice players there than elsewhere. Sometimes they are annoying, but I have also run across some that are friendly, ask for advise on what to do in a manner that makes it fun to mentor them.

Was at the table in CR one time when some young urbanite gentlemen dressed in full gangsta outfits were at one end of the table and at the other end of the table was an older gentleman who definitely was not born in the US. One of the youngsters had the dice and every time he started to throw the dice, the foreign gentleman kept reaching down on the table to make a last second bet. Shooters hate this because it throws off their roll rhythm. About the third time he did this, the shooter sevened out and then headed down to the foreign guy's end of the table with steam coming out of his ears. I thought I was going to see a first class beat down, but the youngster just said politely, "hey, would you mind not reaching down on the table when the shooter is about to roll? It is distracting." I was so impressed by the young guy's tact that I made a bet for him on the next roll and said to the effect "thanks for helping all of us out in a much more polite manner than I think I would have been capable of".

I agree. On the few occasions when the table is cold enough that I start wrong betting, I want to hide under the table.

But it is so annoying when the wrong bettors are boisterous in their rooting. I usually leave the table in such an event.

I just call them "Darth Vadars"... i give them a 'look' -- but, dont say anything. If they want to bet the dark side, they can. I love if i'm shooting and i knock out their dont bets... one time i did it in order:

4, down behind
5, down behind
6, down behind
8, down behind
10, down behind

If he had DONT $ on the 9 - i would have hit for the cycle!!!

The thing i CANT STAND is someone betting big red in the middle of a roll!!
