Default M life Players Club

MGM/Mirage which is now MGM Resorts International is phasing in a new players club. The Beau Rivage is being used as the pilot casino for this new program. It will then be phased into all of the MGM Vegas properties in the fourth quarter of this year. Their program overview reads: M life- a players club like no other. Well, it sure sounds like Total Rewards to me but instead of Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Seven Stars, there will be Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum and NOIR.

To earn one point, you need to play $3 in a slot machine, $8 in a video poker machine or play a hand of $25 BJ. Your base points will be totaled over a twelve month period. To determine your “Tier Credits”, your point play is doubled. Sapphire is -0- to 24,999 tier credits, Pearl is 25,000-75,000, Gold is 75,000-200,000 and Platinum is 200,000 and over. The NOIR tier is a “Whale” designation. In other words, slot players need to recycle $37,500 over the previous twelve months to hit Pearl, $112,500 to hit Gold and $300,000 for Platinum. The VP player has to recycle $100,000 for Pearl, $300,000 for Gold and $800,000 for Platinum. MGM will retain its “Joint Account” option for two residing people and for tier purposes, their play will be combined. I see this as an advantage over Total Rewards.

I think the name “M life” will quickly disappear within conversations and we will all once again be calling it the Players Club as before. I have no idea what difference we will all realize in comp offers. It seems that the whole concept is simply a tool for MGM to categorize people, allowing them to ID people quickly by the color of their card. This all would have made for a great Carol Burnett skit with her refusing to deal cards to or provide a seat to a lowly Sapphire.

I can see that. It would be especially funny if she were in character as Eunice and Tim Conway tried to sit at her table. LOL.

LOL, Lori..

I read about this a few days ago...guess MGM finally saw the light....the corporate entity that many call the 'evil empire' has been getting it right...they have built a big chunk of player loyalty in the gaming markets across the US, Canada and the UK...now others are jumping on the bandwagon.
Boyd had a simliar program for many years but it was confined to each indivual property until a couple of years ago...Now you can play at a Boyd boat and use the points and comps in LV..

I have always been a HET player and to some extent supported Boyd, too..never cared much for MGM...but if MGM acquires a casino close enough for me drive to(like Shreveport/Bossier City), I'll give them a whirl and take advantage of what they have to offer.
And I will give them credit for seeking out new players..they have casinos in Tunica(Gold Strike) and of, course the Beau Rivage in Biloxi...I have visited both but didn't drop any dimes, yet I get offers from them..How did I happen?.....I wonder...I do have an MGM player card but hardly ever use it.

This new MLine program seems to be a little more liberal with the point system than HET..I wonder how the offers and comps will all play out...and will the quality of their service change....but, like I said, I will give them a chance if the opportunity presents itself.

That said.....HET has done a lot of preening and rooster-crowing about being a leader in the gaming industry... and you can bet your bottom dollar they are getting their heads together and planning a new system to get the better of these copy-cats.

Lori,
The thought that came into my head was the skit where Carol was a stewardess and Tim was a passenger on one of those early “No Frill Flying” sections when everyone else still had full service. I thought it was one of the funniest TV skits I had ever watched. LOL

Sonntex,
The old Mirage Group had a very good slot club program and we played at the equivalent level of these new Platinum levels. Back then, we were playing 98% and 99%+ video poker. We could call our Mirage host and ask for six nights and were given RFL to boot along with some other perks. For that matter, there was nothing wrong with MGM’s club either. Given the 95-96% VP they now offer, we probably won’t even bother attaining Gold as it would cost us at least $15,000/year on average to do so. There hasn’t been a single thing MGM has done in the past six or seven years that we have liked and there is nothing about this new caste system of theirs which appeals to us either. We were at the Beau last week and from what we saw and heard, I doubt if anyone below Platinum (maybe even NOIR) will even have a host anymore. I otherwise don’t understand why they did this as the old Players Club did everything the new one will except for the kiosk thing. We believe it will be yet another MGM downgrade and was more about central corporate control over hosts and patrons than being a value added service to the players.

And that is happening at HET, too...the more they (seem to) give the more they take away....

Deb,
I honestly hope something good does come from this new players club but I don’t think it will. Since MGM took over the Mirage Group back in 2000, have they improved ANYTHING within their casinos for the players? I can’t think of a single thing unless you want to include TITO which many regret. I’m just trying to give a heads up to everyone that a change is coming. I don’t know what impact it will have on comps but we all know that MGM is struggling to meet its huge debt obligations and they must look to the players to pay for a lot of it.

I hope this doesn't affect the offers I currently receive. Right now, depending on the MGM property, I get discounted rates (Bellagio, Aria) or 2-3 free nights + free play (all other MGM properties).

If they cut these down tremendously, it may affect number of trips to Vegas per year.

At least MGM they have a twelve month cutoff period. To me the 6 months from Harrah's is totally unreasonable. Even going to Vegas twice per year, you can just miss the 6 month cutoff and lose all of your points. Until Harrah's changes this, their properties will not be an option for me.
