    Default At the Stratosphere...

I'll run down some things i noticed while over there (yesterday) saturday. It wasnt an especially long visit (as mK is recovering from illness) ... but, here goes:

If you sign up for their club card (which i did), you get nothing. No free slot play, no pin#, etc. But, you are informed that your slot card enables you to save 25% (anytime) for the buffet. The card is called 'ACE'.

Now, i didnt go into the buffet... but, i'll give you a rundown of $$$$.

    Without a card:
Brunch (7a-3p): $10.25 Mon to Thurs
    Brunch (7a-3p): $11.25 Fri/Sat
    Brunch (7a-3p): $14.25 Sun
Dinner (4p-10p): $14.25 Sat to Thurs
    Dinner (4p-10p): $18.25 Fri
    Lunch? There is no lunch!

    With a card:
All Day Buffet $19.99 Mon to Thurs, Satur
All Day Buffet $24.99 Fri or Sun
    sorry, couldnt find indiv prices

Okay, the Tower... i did the LOCALS special... $12 for tower admission. The locals price for admission has gone up twice now in the past 14 months. I think they're noticing that folks are riding the rides less & less - so, they want to get an extra couple $ outta you, lol. No worries. The other prices (for tower, tower+ride, or unlimited tower/rides) are still the same for the most part.

There was only a 6 minute wait to board the elevator. Would have been 5, but they want to snap your pict (2x) before boarding.

In 33 seconds i'm 1000 feet up & the day was actually pretty clear. My only real reason for going to the Strat today - was for the tower. I'll admit, i forgot my camera. But, looking south strip (you can still have a pretty good view of the Luxor & Mandy Bay). Yes, the City Center is very evident. I was able to see Red Rock Station pretty well... as well as other parts of the valley.

I took pictures for no less than two groups of people/couples. The wind up there on the outdoor observation deck was nearly zilch. All the rides were running (i didnt ride). The restaurant was of course open for lunch. It was at about 60% capacity. Just above, the lounge - it was closed. Well, i shouldnt say closed... there just wasnt any staff or drink servers/bartender available. Oh well. After about 40 min - i made my way down.

The Casino... okay let's start with roulette. The single zero roulette wheel is now gone. I didnt know this... matter of fact one of the croupiers said "it's been a few months since we've had it". So, it goes to show how often i make it to the Strat, he he he.

Craps... the Strat now has 4 tables. One of them is crapless, the other 3 are the 'normal' type.

    Bet minimums i saw:

Roulette $1 chips (minimum 5 inside)... then 20 minutes later... they changed the placard to read (minimum 10).

BJ $5... and a ton of $5 tables actually. I'd say 15 @ that level. Then two tables @ $25. BJ payed 3/2 on the shoe game. They have auto-shufflers for the shoes. So, a changeout (of cards) only takes 40 seconds.

Craps... 10x odds with $5 minimum on both games. Two of the 4 tables were open.

    3 Card Poker... $5

    Let it Ride... $5

Drink service was pretty prompt if you wanted anything. I just observed some table games for a short while & didnt play. The waitresses were in full 'garb' (sp?) for halloween.

Rosie's (the 50's style cafe) was VERY crowded.

Thanks for the great review. I haven't been there in a couple of years. When I signed up you got 100 in free play if you played for a certain number of hours and then you got it on your next trip back. They were suppsed to have a fun book too, but they had run out and gave no rain checks. It sort of left us feeling disgruntled so we haven't been back.

It's been a couple of years since I was in Stratosphere. Signed up for the slot card then and haven't been back. Looks like they changed it because mine was named ULTIMATE REWARDS.

I guess I now have another retired card as well as another new one to pick up next trip.

After the first visit years ago, the Strat doesn't offer me
much. Twice I've eaten at TOP OF THE WORLD which
is fine...you're payin' for the view which is great and the
rides on the upper deck are fun to watch...
The casino reminded me of a lower class Indian casino.
Industrial style slot machines and econo customers all over the place...the vibe was pretty poor and so is the area.
It's fun for a dinner/view evening, you go right up the elevator with a reservation...the Show BITE is over there,
but I think it bites...lol, guess I don't care much for the Stratosphere huh...sorry.

Matthew, I was there for the first time last December. It wasn't very busy. Walked the casino and took a look at the shops, used the restroom and then left. All in all...meh.

What do you mean you were sick? What happened? Are you feeling better?

Frank---You like Motown? Well, we'll have to get you down to the Excalibur to see InAFect. That's where they will be while you're here.

Can you tell me more about this group? Don't know them. Are they good? Tickets available at Tix4Tonight?

Tell me tell me tell me. You got me curious

Something else, how do you people rate the "robbery risk" in the Strat area? Are you safe as a tourist?

You are safe to walk to the Sahara, but don't venture north of the Strat nor the west side of it. Not the best areas. But walking to the Sahara I would say is fine.

    Default Frozen Custard

The best thing near the Strat. On the east side.
