    Exclamation LV Taxi Statistics

I came upon the LV Taxi Authorities March official report. It's interesting that the number of trips are down but average revenue per trip is up!

    Screams........ LONG HAUL....TUNNEL.....SCENIC VIEW..!!!!!

Yes, there are so many newbies or people who don't read the boards - they don't know that they are getting tunneled or long-hauled. They have no earthly idea what the average cost of a trip should be.

One must also suppose that it might have something to do with the fact that, a year ago this time, gas was careening toward $4 per gallon and fares were increased to compensate for that expense. Since gas is down and fares haven't decreased (why is that, do you think?--rhetorical question), it would be logical to assume that this is a second variable in that happy windfall.

I hate to say this, but if you get long hauled and you report it, i dont think there going to do a frickin thing. Yea they will tell you they will get right on it, but the truth of the matter is, the long hauler is the one who brings in the money, and that's all they care about. The reason i have come to this conclusion is because there doing it now more than ever, so obviously there is no fear on there part of reprimand.

I didn't get long hauled in Las Vegas, but I did get cheated in Columbus, Ohio when I got home. I live about 2 miles from the airport and that short ride, the last time I took a cab there cost $6.00. This time it should have been $12.50, but when we got to my house the guy pushed a button and showed me a fare of $17.60. I'm sure he locked in the highest rate he had for the day and showed it to me to pay. He said that was the total with tax. $5.00 in tax? Come on! In Las Vegas I would have questioned it more, but here at home I just wanted to go in my house and go to bed. I'm still mad about it though- mad that I was too tired to argue- mad that I let him get away with it- and mad I didn't write his number down to report him. It was 1 am- I was supposed to be home two hours earlier. I'm not surprised at all that people are trying to rip others off. It really makes me sad that there are so many unscrupulous people in our country. Did you hear about the lotto clerks telling people they didn't win and then stealing their tickets and cashing them in?
    Luck or fate?

I have not been to Vegas in about 3 years. Can someone tell me what I should be telling the driver? My husband usually does this but he is not going on this trip. How much should it cost so I know I am not getting swindled? I am asking about the trip from the airport to the Strip. Thanks!

Whatever you do don't let the driver know you're a novice about the trip from the airport to your hotel.

After you get in the cab and have told the driver your destination be sure to say "No Tunnel". One driver responded to me..."Freeway faster" I responded "I have made many trips to LV and I know the quickest way to ....... , the freeway is not the best way and I know what the average fare costs."

Once in the cab try to lighten up the conversation saying things like:

"So glad to be back in LV. I always stay at .........."

"It seemed busier at the airport today then last month."

This is a link to the LV Taxicab Authority site that gives you an average trip cost. There are many variables such as road construction, day and time of arrival, red lights.

If I get stuck in slow moving traffic I have jokingly said "Why don't you turn the timer off, your boss is rich enough, I'd rather give you the tip then your boss the money."

It depends on where on the strip but $10-$15 is an average. Also you can call the taxi authority and they will tell you the typical rate. Kep in mind that if you hit a lot of red lights it will increase the fare some.

    Default Fare

    I stay at the LUXOR.

Every year it is about $15.

The first two years, I took a shuttle, big mistake. The shuttle is about $10, and very slow. If there are two of you, the taxi is cheaper and much faster.

The above is good advise. If you have never been to Las Vegas before, or have only been there a few times, and the cab driver asks you if you have ever been to Vegas before, tell him you have been there around 40 times. Like LVloverNana also advised, give the cabbie the impression that you were also in Las Vegas just a month ago.
Always remember to say, "No tunnel!"
