Default From The Airport to the Palms

Should we take a cab, or get an airport shuttle. Can get the Showtime Tours Shuttle for $15 each return.
I usually take a cab but wonder if the Airport Shuttle would be quicker/cheaper or not. Not going to book a limo, not worth it for two of us and costs too much.
I just wonder if the cabbie will long haul us to the Palms.
When I stayed at Gold Coast the cabbie went along Tropicana to the Interstate, then got off at Flamingo. Went the opposite when I went to the airport. My guess is this may be the quickest way to the Palms, Rio and Gold Coast? Was about $20 give or take a couple of dollars.

DO NOT take the shuttle. You might save a few bucks on the shuttle but when I first started going to Vegas I took the shuttle and it added another hour and a half to my arrival time - I am not even kidding. Not only did I have to wait at the stop for the shuttle to arrive (sometimes up to half an hour) but the thing stops at every single hotel along the way until it gets to yours, fighting Vegas traffic all the way. Since the previous taxi ride you mentioned was only about $20.00 (which sounds like the right fare to the Palms with moderate traffic) it is not worth saving just five dollars to go through that nightmare. You would be so much better off taking a taxi, getting to your hotel quickly and starting your vacation off on a great note. Trust me - if you take the shuttle it will be a LONG journey to your hotel and you will regret it.

I totally agree with jr7110. Two of you would be much faster and cheaper, in the long run, taking a cab. Just make sure you say "No Tunnel" You don't want to get long hauled as it can add major bucks to your tab.
    Have a great trip!.

Great I am going to take the advice of you two and take the cab.
Reason I asked is because when I stayed at Gold Coast that was my first time staying Off Strip and didn't know if the cabbie long hauled me or not there and back. But like I said, the cabbie went to Tropicanna, over to the Interstate, then north to Flamingo and got off and headed to the hotel.
I have heard some stories like what you mentioned how the Shuttles stop at every hotel to let others off and it takes forever depending on where your hotel is. I figured the Palms would be a bit out of the way for the shuttle and so it would possibly take longer. But thought that maybe because it is Off Strip it would get there a bit quicker.
Either way cab it is. besides arriving at 10:30pm I sure don't want to waste any time getting the night started off for us.

You might want to check with The Palms about transportation also. I rent a car, but they have their own vehicles (lime green limos and hummers) that they use for various things. It could be that the price of their use is comparable to a taxi.

BTW...they offer a shuttle to the Fashion Mall.

If you have someone with you always use the cab. The extra cost is worth the time savings. If I am alone, and not in any hurry, I will sometimes use the shuttle to save a few bucks. I almost always regret this decision. I have seen the backside of Harrahs, etc. more than I care to.
I once talked to a group of three young people who were complaining about how long the shuttle was taking to get to their hotel and I politely told them that it would probably have been cheaper or at least a similar cost to have taken a cab since there was three of them. they assured me they would take a cab back to the airport.

The Palms limo is not worth getting unless you are getting it comped. I think they will charge you around $150 from the airport.

The $20 cab ride sounds right, I did the tunnel vs no tunnel to the Palms from the airport in July 2007 and posted the results here but I can't remember what they were now. I think it was 5 minutes faster and $5 more expensive using the tunnel in the middle of the day.

I totally agree on not taking the shuttle. I made that mistake one time - not to the Palms, but to the Treasure Island. I can't imagine how long it would take the shuttle to get to Palms, I would guess it takes at least 1 hour.

    Default Road Construction

Maybe this should be posted under Members Corner but since this thread talked about how long it will take to get somewhere, wanted to add comments here. Just got back on the 22nd and it took forever to get anywhere. I always rent a car but this was the worst I've ever driven in. Construction on Tropicana w/bound from Paradise to LVB, e/bound from the 15 to LVB with corner at Excalibur blocked, a lane blocked by Hooters, Paradise and Koval had lanes closed, LVB in front of NYNY from 6 lanes to 1 for a short distance then 1 opened to turn east/left on to Tropicana. Something was going on N/bound on LVB by Harrahs also. I don't know what cabbies charge to wait but they are making lots of money now. Was there from Tues to late Friday and it was congested all times of the day and night.

    Default Koval is open

Koval is open, anywhere on corner of Sands/Twain at Paradise and Twain east of Paradise was previously a problem, but pretty much open now.

Magicfish, thanks for the update. I had the "pleasure" of enduring the Twain east of Paradise construction in early Feb. Glad the job's complete.

I usually have made better time using Spring Mountain/Sands/Twain as opposed to Flamingo but not that time!
