Thread: Downtown VS. The Strip

  1. Default Downtown VS. The Strip

Give me downtown anytime. The Golden nugget has the best comps and drink service bar none. I just came back from Vegas and stayed both downtown and the strip. The eating prices and rooms are outrages on the strip, go downtown get everything comped and spend your money on gaming. All you have to do is get a rating card and use it and you will be comped if you gamble. I have never been turned down for a room or a meal at any casino downtown but get very little from the strip except an occasional free room.

well, we say to each his own, but we much prefer Downtown to the Strip for reasons you mention. Prices for both rooms and food have sky rocketed on the Strip in recent years. Not to mention the strollers, the crowd, the yupees. . . . But our kids refuse to stay Downtown and insist that we stay on the Strip when we go as a family, which we do. But, we much prefer DT.

  3. Default Downtown for me

I couldn't agree more with the previous two posters.

I have seen the strip tourist attractions, etc. mor eoften than I care to think about. The closeness of everything downtown along with the overall carnival atmosphere makes it the ideal place for me.

I always get a car because there are some restaurants, etc I like to go to in other areas, not to mention getting to shows. etc. if I choose to.

The cost of a nice room downtown compared to strip rooms often covers the cost of the car. There are some real well kept secrets downtown including beautiful rooms and great meals.

Been downtown a few times and just don't care for it. The first time we were there was well before the Fremont Street Experience was built and it was just kind of a dirty, seedy place. It is nicer now but that first impression is hard to forget. Much prefer the strip.

I would much prefer staying on the strip, but we gamble a lot downtown. Downtown offers good, cheap food and cheaper gambling. We also win more downtown. Still like to stay in a strip hotel though. We usually spend a couple days downtown gambling on each trip.

I've stayed downtown the last two tips and loved it, especially during the hotter months.

it all depends on my mood actually. that said.. there is nothing better than walking along the strip in the Harrahs/ Flamingo area where you can easily walk in and out of the casinos, on a warm summer nite... i think anyway. ya got the loud noises of music/laughter/slotmachines... does it get any better mood wise? i think not.

I just don't like downtown - I've been going to Vegas since the early 70s, didn't like downtown then and nothing has changed my opinion to date. When I want "bargain" gaming, I pick local casinos in Henderson or on Boulder Highway.

I prefer DT to the strip. We usually split the trip, but this year we are only staying DT.

I agree with the reasons already stated. On the strip...narrow sidewalks, crowds. Porn slappers. PPl just stop on the 4 foot wide siwalk, and cause a jam.

I'm not saying I HATE the strip, but for gaming, and eating nothing beets DT. Your money goes much further.

I have seen the fountains, and the volcano, and I have gotten lost in MGM .It starts to get old.

Downtown Rocks! Single deck 3/2 blackjack! Lower Limits! Plenty of Full Pay VP! Better Comps! Cheap food! Enough said!
