Default Topic Of The Week: I bet you don't remember.........

This week's Topic Of The Week question is:

Do you remember something that is no longer in Las Vegas that many people may have forgotten about?

    This can be a show, a restaurant, a person..etc.

Default I was only in it once.....

....but I will never forget the inside (or outside) of Bob Stupak's Vegas World Casino, the forerunner of the Stratosphere. It was so tacky that it was mesmerizing. I found out years later that a couple I know got married and spent their honeymoon at the Vegas World Hotel because they got a really cheap package to stay there.

I wish I could go back in time just to see it one more time. The 3-D facade of the hotel building actually had a giant space-walking astronaut attached to it!!!!

I wish they hadn't taken out the Statue/Fountain in front of Paris for the candy store. It just doesn't look right. Friends of ours stayed at Paris on their honeymoon and were saddened when it was demolished.

How about the Castaways Casino. They would walk around during the day like they do with cocktails with sandwiches and snacks. Also free cigarettes at the casinos when you were gambling. Of course a tip. Also miss the Maxim Casino.

The Silver City Casino. it was on the Strip across the Street from the Stardust and Westward Ho. A small casino owned by Circus circus that had cheap table games, good slots and video poker. Jenny won $15 her first time ever playing keno there on our honeymoon. They also had a pretty good coffee shop with good food at cheap prices.

At one time, it became the only "smokeless" casino in Nevada. their mascot was a little fireman called Puffless Pete. it closed in the mid-90's, I believe.

I stayed at the Maxim quite a few times. My cousin was the head bellman there, I liked the casino. Close to the strip, but away from the craziness. The first time I went to Vegas I stayed there. I liked it a lot.

  8. Cool Prime Rib

I miss Sir Galahads that was in Excalibur..
I enjoyed the rib being cut right off the cow tableside.
    With horseradish & popovers..

  9. Default The old Treasure Island

I still miss the original pirate battle, and my husband still talks about the chicken soup they served in the old buffet. He's a chicken soup fanatic, and he always said that was the best he ever tasted. After they renovated the buffet, a different recipe was used and it's nowhere near as good as the old one.

  10. Default Jimmy Hopper/ VegasWorld / TI Pirate show / SPLASH! / Cook E Jarr / Fontana Lounge...

Now I'm feeling nostalgic and a bit sad... But I'm glad to see other people miss the same things I do!
Bring back the theming in the hotels! The cheezy shows! The oldschool lounges with LIVE MUSIC!!

    sigh.

still love it though and i'll be back in July
