Thread: Topic Of The Week: 3/21/2011: How Low Can You Go?

  1. Default

The first time I went to Vegas, I stayed at the Flamingo in 1999. I was angry because I wasn’t allowed to check it as soon as I arrived. The next time I went I stayed at Circus. I was allowed to check in immediately. Since then, each time I’ve gone to Vegas, I’ve stayed at Circus and I’m allowed to check in not matter what time I arrive. The cost is only $21.00 a day and usually, I stay for 4 days. Except for the fact that there’s no coffee pot in the room, their rooms have everything that The Flamingo have. Since it’s on the strip, it’s just a matter of catching the Deuce to get to anyplace I want to go on the Strip and I have more money to spend because of the low hotel rate. I’ve been to Vegas 20 times and except for the first time, I’ve stayed at Circus with no problems. They send me promotions thru my email so they comp me with two nights free and with the points from my Club One card I get the other nights free and, a free meal.

Free: room at RIO (about five years ago)

Cheap: 99-cent buffet at C.C. (even back then it was BAD)

Cheap: $8 Crazy Girls at Riv (back in 1989)

Free: meals at Orleans + GC (for giving them VERY LITTLE play + just asking the pit boss).

Cheap: $2200 of show tickets in 2009 (for locals program / $100 annual membership)
Cheap: $4700 of show tickets in 2010 (for locals program / $100 annual membership)
Cheap: (thus far) $1800 of show tickets in 2011 (for locals program / $100 annual membership)

Cheap: $1 slushy margarita from Casino Royale
    Cheap: (same) from Fremont
    Cheap: (same) from Bill's
You dont always get what you pay for... but you always pay for what you get.

Well this aint Vegas it's Reno but we will never forget the 99cent breakfast at the Cal-Neva. The dadgum slice of ham was as big as the platter and ya got a slug of hashbrowns and two eggs and a very very cold milk or endless hot cup of joe.

If we count Primm as part of Vegas,(and I do because I have to drive thru on my way to Vegas) then it would be the 99c Jackpot Special in the coffee shop. Two eggs, two bacon, hash brown, and toast. Offered 24 hours, it became a favorite of mine, no matter what time of day. It later became $1.25, then $1.99, then $3.25, then disappeared. I miss it.

    Big Bad (and cheap)

    Cool not so long ago...

Just this past November. $49.00 per night at the Golden Nugget, WITH a $25.00 per day credit good for food at any place on the property, or merchandise in the gift shops, and a coupon book with match play coupons, free drink coupons, and 2 for 1 deals at the buffet! We stayed 5 nights and ate our fill at the buffet and at "The Grotto" Italian eatery...pretty much had no need to go anywhere else for food during our stay. At check-out, our total bill per room was $149.00! This wasn't 1973, 1980, or even 1992, it was 2010! Where else could you stay in a great room at a really fun semi-upscale resort and eat 2 meals a day for less than $50 per day?
We're going back May 1-5 2011, and have the same room rate and $25 per day food credit, but alas, the coupon book is not included this time.

    Good advice for FREE!

Default How low can you go?

Free nights (for our whole trip) at Bally's was nice. Free dinner for four at Ellis Island (personal circumstances). Front and center stage (free) for the Scintas, and a few others. Vegas does have it's comps. They need to keep that going so more people will keep coming back. Can't tell me that Vegas is hurting......

  8. Default Lowest prices

$1.99 breakfast specials and bufffets and $1.00 blackjack.

They still had $1.00 BJ at Sahara not long ago and you can still get a good breakfast for $3.99 at the Graveyard Special at the Orleans.

    Default 1991 at the Mirage

Right after I turned 21 in April 1991, a buddy and I book a trip to Vegas for Memorial Day weekend that included air and hotel. We flew from Minneapolis and stayed 3 nights at the fairly new Mirage for $550 total.

We did just get a pretty decent deal under todays standards where my lovely wife and I are leaving 4/6 and returning 4/10 staying at the Tropicana. The package was $907.
