Default Topic Of The Week: 3/21/2011: How Low Can You Go?

This week's Topic Of The Week question is:

What is the lowest price you remember on shows, food, hotel rates..etc.

(I could really use help in regard to the TOTW questions. If you have an interesting question, please email it to me at mrvegas98@aol.com.)

    Thanks,

    Steve

I remember free seats with a drink purchase to some of the afternoon shows--$20 a night at IP-- and that was before COMPS!
Life is a gamble- so drop in that penny & spin the reels!

    Steak special at Ellis Island
$1.99 breakfast at El Cortez (around 1995 or so)

    Default Cheap cheap cheap

Pretty sure that in '95 or '97 I got a breakfast buffet at Circus Circus for sub-$4.

And I know it's not Vegas, but I don't visit Vegas without a trip to Laughlin, and I once got a suite at the Golden Nugget for $21 (probably plus tax) in January of, I think, '97.

    Love it!

I remember paying only $19 a night for a room at Circus Circus back in the early 80's..and the CC buffet was $1.99....breakfast at some places on the strip was $.99.....and I don't remember how much the tickets were, but W gave the usher a $20 tip and got the best seat in the house for Liberace when he was performing at the original MGM during the same era.

AND..we could book trips thru the local travel agencies for less than $125 a piece which included airfare from Dallas and rooms for 2 or 3 nights...Now it costs more than double that for just the airfare.

Of course, now the best price for rooms is FREE. LOL
Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful ride.

Yes!!! you are so right! I remember BOTH of those...We LOVED the 99cent shrimp Cocktails! Always took the "newbies" to Vegas to experience the GREAT Shrimp Cocktails!! (Actually, as a tradition..we STILL go down, and have one, or two!!) The $1.99 Breakfast was great at El Cortez, and the $1.99 Steak, Baked Potato, and salad for $1.99 at Binions was to die for! WE loved all those things to rely on, and Comps were not in the "game" as much then..I remeber when the host had to walk up, and ask you if you had dinner yet, and then give you a little "slip"...those were the good old days!!

Our first trip was back in 2004 so I think much of it was after the cheapness of the Las Vegas of old.

But I don't know about this question... if you search around (or read posts or trip reports of people who searched around) there still seems to be lots of deals and specials out there.

I remember seeing George Carlin (I can't remember which casino he was playing) in 1990 or 1991. I remember 2 tickets cost $50 total and $20 to the doorman to get us on the front row. I remember the price only because while waiting for the tickets to go on sale or someone to man the ticket window, I played my first game of craps at the same casino and won $75, enough to pay for the tickets and palm grease.
