Okay.. i went and saw frank on a comp ticket offer. This was my first time seeing a show in the Lance Burton Theater. I was in the Mezanine. That's just the section behind the main floor.
Tickets are normally: $48, $64, and $81. This is excluding the entertainment tax.
Seat comfort (at least where i was seated in Row R) was pretty awful. Big oversized cup-holders/armrests between every seat. So, cramped is a word that quickly comes to mind. Leg room was okay though.
When i first entered the theater i was instructed to "go left & take the stairs up". So, i did. The usher just inside the showroom door said "down this way & you'll be 6 rows down". I dont have a problem with this. I sort of like ushers pointing me in the right direction (instead of... like... the Sahara... where the usher practically seats you in your exact seat... then comes all the way back to the entrance to get two more sets of guests). But, the lighting is pretty dark.. and the tiny metal placard that sits atop the armrest of every aisle seat is small. So, i didnt do my counting so well - and asked a gorgeous brunette sitting there "is this R?". Well, that was that.
There's no warm-up act. There is a band that plays 5 sets of theme songs from t.v. sitcoms before frank comes out.
And, so frank came out and got things underway. He did a montage of impersonations ... which included Charles Barkley, G. Bush, William Shatner, Jack Nicholson, and John Madden. There's a 'bit' of flow in his 'bit'. Somewhat backtracking in a humorous way with his storyline & such. For example "what would it be like if Madden was the captain of the starship enterprise", etc, etc.
Hmmm, let's see... for example Al Pacino walking thru a library... he did the bit for about 40 seconds to the laughter of the audience... then frank says "okay, enough going off on a tangent". Next, quickly switches to the voice of G. Bush... "tangerines? i love em" & does the eye & neck movement.
Tons and tons of G. Bush (and also Bill Clinton jokes/impersonations). Some were fair. Some were good. The group of people near me seemed to just love him. I thought he was okay.
The mezzanine and the main floor were 100% filled. Not sure if the balcony was at full attendance.
He meets you in the lobby (after the show) to take picts, sign auto's, etc. Seems like a likable guy.
The band - is a very small band... and they're tucked way off to the left hand portion of the stage.
No other persons come out onto the stage (then again, i wasnt expecting any). The right hand part of the stage looked like a 'prop' makeshift of the tonite show.... but, wasnt utilized for tonite. Show went about 75 minutes.
Seated in the audience tonite was A-D-Clay.
Youngest person in the crow, i'd say was probably 18. The website makes mention "show is appropriate for persons 13+". It's a clean show - no bad language. But, maybe a few adult themes.
