Hi all - I'll be meeting my sis on Thanksgiving morning in Vegas and staying for 3 nights at Harrah's.....haven't stayed there in several years, as we usually stay at the Rio.

Could I get some guidance as to which tower we should request when we check in?

Thanks,
Deb

in oct. we stayed at old part looking toward toward volcano at mirage. if you stay in new section facing parking garages when people park there car you allways hear car horn when they lock car.if on carnival court side you have to put up with loud music untill court closes:eek:

The Mardri Gras Tower (old one) opens directly into the casino right by the new Cafe. The Carnival Tower opens out into the lobby by Starbucks. Both have security at the elevators at night. You have to show your room key. We've stayed in both towers and the rooms are about the same. View from the Mardri Gras is better if you get a strip view. You probably won't get a coffee pot in either tower unless you ask for it or get an upgraded room.

Just a note, the buffet is being renovated. It's being served in the Italian Restaurant (can't remember the name) until mid December.

The Carnival Tower is convenient because check-in and check-out are close, as is the taxi and shuttle stand, and in the morning, the coffee (Starbucks) is right there when you get off the elevator.
The Mardi Gras tower, however, is closer to the casino and the exit to The Strip.
The elevators to both towers are not that far apart, though, so those things may be incidental...

BTW, sonntex, that Italian restuarant was called Andreotti's and I'm really disappointed it's no longer there! I think it will re-open sometime next year.

Mardi Gras, or Carnival, I can tell which ones are the worst rooms in the place! Always have gotten a room with view of air-conditioning units, garbage dumps, parking lots etc!

Harrah's is fine, security is good (if he's awake)!

i have always stayed at Mardi Gras and the rooms and atmosphere are pleasant tho rather small but the beds were very comfy which is a real plus for me! As i said, the rooms are very pleasant and i would request that tower again.

Even the rooms with a view of the strip also give a good view of A/C units, Casino Royale parking and Dennys garbage cans. :p The most the "view" offers is the Mirage Volcano, some of TI, a little of Forum Shopping, and the Rio across the way. However, you do get a good view of the mountains on the west side during daylight hours.

As for those security guys, don't be so hard on them. After all they have a really hard job:rolleyes: sitting there on their little stool, leaning on their little desk, grinning their frozen smiles and saying thanks and nodding as we hurry by flashing our room keys at them.

But we like Harrahs. We feel comfortable there. It is like home away from home.:)

When we stayed at Harrah's, I asked for a high floor with a view of the strip. Sorry, but all I have left is the 12th floor, overlooking the pool.

I then showed him a $20 bill, and asked him to re-check.

Well, we ended up on the 27th floor, Carnival Tower, with an excellent strip view. Was well worth the $20.

We stayed in a suite for our wedding trip in the Carnival Tower, room was big, view not much except mountains in the distance. We were upgraded to the suite with no charge. Last Dec. we arrived early and the only room ready was in the Mardi Gras tower with a balcony. (so we were told) It was over the ac units, but high enough not to bother us. I kind of like the background hummmm, to block out other noises at night! The balcony was great even though it was small, open the door and see the Venetian, TI and on up to the Stardust, for NYE we could see the fireworks going off those hotels. So I think we may request Mardi Gras tower again, even though they say Carnival Tower nicer. Only 5 more weeks and here we come!:p
