While we were looking for a show to go to this weekend (yeah - T-2!!!:D ), friends of ours bought us two tickets to see George Carlin at the Stardust on Saturday night.

All seats are priced the same so we are looking for advice on timing to get the best seats.

The show is at 8:00 pm. What time should we get in line to be up close?

Are there any bad seats in the house we should avoid?

Does tipping here get you any better seating?

Thanks to this group for all its advice and guidance.

I was under the impression that tickets purchased had assigned seating. Are you in possession of your tickets to verify that it is open seating?

I'm a big Carlin fan...see him each year at least once, twice now at his
new home at the Stardust. I've always had assigned seats. When I book
my tickets, I request which area I want...it's not open to the best of my
knowlage.
The Showroom isn't that large, but 'centerish' seats are alway recommended.
There is a 'catwalk' in front of the stage...seating left and right of it. These
can be fun if you're not seated in the far back corners of the 'pit'.
I choose the area just in back of the 'down front' area, center. George does
not use the catwalk and stays pretty much center stage.
If you're not familiar with a Carlin show, you might be in for a not so pleasant
evening and want isle seats.....just so you can sneak out relatively gracefully.

After my post I received a confirmation email and we are in Row 5 just a few seats in from the isle.

Sounds like an OK seat

And I love Carlin so I will be staying

Saw the show and was disappointed

Carlin has turned into an old man who just loves to swear and talk dirty.

A good part of his show is now in auto erotic asphyxiation in teen age boys and on fat people.

I think the good part of George has gone it is sad to say

That's sad because he can be a very funny man without swearing and talking dirty!

I agree that George Carlin is not his "usual" self lately. He used to be very funny, but not recently. He's kind of like Lenny Bruce was near his end.... very angry, political, opinionated instead of funny. He needs to lighten up a little. I miss the old "younger" George Carlin! Now he was hilarious!

I've watched George go through alot of changes and topics over the
years...yeah, he's grumpy, crudely real, and gets obsessed and goes
on and on at times BUT....George Carlin (to me) is an amazing, creative,
part of my stand-up comic experience and he's still a fantastic embassidor
of the English language...I'm stickin' with him.

I went to see Carlin at Bally's about 5 years ago. I am a big fan. I gave the usher $50 (probly could have got away with $20) and he looked at our tickets and told me he would come get me after the show begins. Sure enough after george was on for about 5 minutes he came and escorted us front and center. The one thing that George said during that show is that he is not nor has he ever been a fan of doing shows in Vegas. He thinks there are a very small amount of people attending that are truly his fans. It is all tourists just looking for something to do . He flat out stated that most of the people there would not buy a Ticket to see him in their home city. Even though he is a regular at the Stardust now, maybe he still carries those negative feelings about the Vegas tourists.

Me too, saw him five years or so at Ballys, got turn backs, we walked up and my friend asked if he had any good seats, the guy said sure, they were dead center booth, we were surrounded by old guys with young paid female companaions, but at any rate he was 1/3 funny, 1/3 sort of, and 1/3 really sucks, about have ways thru he apologized saying he was having trouble getting going because it was Sunday, small crowd, I'm going wtf, I mean it didn't say anywhere on my ticket to expect a crummy show, anyway makes you realize how edited comedy for tv is, they take the best minutes and edit the unfunny parts. I was at local comedy club last week and this guy got off on to how funny marching bands are, the moms(my wife included) found it unfunny, we have kids in band, and this guy wood not move on, he got heckled, he really wasn't getting that crowds in Texas like bands and football. At any rate Carlin equates to Penn and Teller, you may or may not get them, and some of there stuff like Carlins is hit or miss, can't beleive this guy is still alive, he's had multiple heart attacks bty passes, and trips to rehab, you can do better than him..
