View Full Version : (two) shows reviewed!!

Last nite i spent 4 and 3/4 hours at the Riviera. Reason: i had two shows to take in. :)

First was ICE (the spectacular from RUSSIA) as it's so-called. Second, was SCARLETT (the princess of magic).

Thru a local program i obtained my seat fro SCARLETT... i really wasnt 'thaaaat' interested in seeing the show, but - since i was going to see ICE, what the heck. Plus, each performance was in the same showroom. ICE @ 8pm, 'her' @ 10PM.

There is a program going on now (i'll post it also in DEALS section) at the Riviera. If you sign up for a new club card - you have your choice of free play or a show ticket.

ICE was really good. With acrobats, skating, some humor... and a whimsical theme to the show -- you really get a sense for things. Now, i have to say there really isnt a specific story (or plot) as much as there is a mix of 'everything', lol.

The stage is another story. Oops, did i say story!? The stage is really unique... there is a section that comes out & actually completely circles Section A. So, if you're seated there - you cannot leave your seat til it's over (they warn you). Luckily i sat there & loved it!!! Yes, the stage is of ice.

(( before/after the show - they set up a little 'stairs' thingy - ummm, think of 5 steps up and 5 steps down ))

So, these skaters come out & do a multitude of acrobats, like hand skates!? Then, there's the stilts on skates -- wow! Juggling, acrobats, etc. These guys and gals are certainly athletic. The women skaters, very beautiful! They're indeed from Russia - just as the show title states.

The show is well choreographed... things happen with props, etc. Just flows very nicely. The tandem (s) of several pairs of skaters are impressive... including one routine where the guy holds onto just the leg & one skate of the female & starts to twirl around faster and FASTER as her head is only 6 inches from the ice. I mean... wow!

There's some comedy mixed in as a trio of guys come out with violin cases & begin to skate while playing violin - but, nearly bump into each other. Next, a bucket of water is (well, you just gotta see it - oh, and duck your head!).

The costumes/outfits are simple - yet nice. The three wise men (or goofballs at times) keep forgetting to speak in English & carry on several conversations --- and speak russian before looking into the audience. "oops, we sorry!".

I was in the 3rd row of Section A. These seats are nice, comfy, plenty of room. They have the cup-holder things in the armrests, but dont seem to get in the way. Otherwise, the VERSAILLES theater is a mish-mosh of theater style seats, booths, and perpindicular tables.

ICE went for about an hour & twenty minutes. The theater was about 1/2 full. Tix are: $76 & $85.

---> ---> --->

Okay, i'm out in the casino for about 25 minutes as the theater is tranformed for 'SCARLETT'. I hang out - watch the dice table (with the horrid 2x odds), and hang in the sportsbook for a short while. I think the S.D. Chargers were getting pushed around & such, lol.

I obtain my ticket for the magic show & make my way in. The theater is, again, 1/2 full. Now i have to say - i'm a little suprised that SCARLETT would draw this many folks to her show. If the VERSAILLES is 1/2 full - that's still 150 to 160 persons. Hmmm, maybe many of us were with 'that' locals program. Who knows.

I'm seated in SECTION C. This is just a row of tables that seat 8. It's the terrible seating that makes you twist your head & chair to improve your vantage point. But, you're really jammed in there. Luckily - juuust before the show started - you were offered the chance to move up slightly closer (but, not into the theater style seats). And, so, i had the whole table to myself & pushed some chairs out of the way.

Scarlett comes out and begins her 'act'. What's different in this show is that it is billed as a 'magic: abra-ca-sexy'... offering a topless review.

Right up front i'll tell you that no one is completely topless in this show. Scarlett herself exposes her 'upper section' just twice & that's offering about 80% exposure 'up there'. Her assistants show just about 'everything' up there - with.... let's just say bras that have no cups at all. Her assistants are 'fairly' attractive. And, if you're from Northern California & are familiar with the Silicon Valley - then you'd appreciate these girls, lol. But, in no way were they as attractive as 'this one' blonde skater during the ICE show.

The show offers basically the same stuff as before (if you seen it over at P.H. @ the V-Theater). Cutting a woman in half, card tricks, bunny in a hat, etc, etc.

All of a sudden i'm cold - really cold. I cant believe how cold this theater has gotten! I curl up the collar of my polo and cover my neck as best i could. Dang it.

So, this guy named 'Max' comes onto stage (i guess to give Scarlett a break?) and does this 'bit' with a trained dog. Some cheesy tricks & such. Some were okay, some just drew silence from the crowd. He was introduced as 'internationally known'. Uhhhhh?

Uhhhhhh?!?!?! Okay?

She comes back (what's her name? Scarlett, i think)... and does a few more things. A group of 11 college-aged guys get up and leave. You could tell that they werent buying any of the magic. And, well, the two 'topless girls' werent going to offer any more views.

Blah Blah, etc, etc, yadda yadda - she does the Wyrick trick of walking thru (in her case, crawling thru) a steel blade fan. It looked pretty cool actually... but, i have that one figured out. Wyrick's too. But, i wont give it away, he he he.

Also, there's the upside down water-torture 'thing' where she is shackled, cuffed, you name it & then dropped into the water head first. She struggles, and struggles, blah blah - oh, and a sheet covers the tank - and she makes it out alive 6 seconds later. I've gotta tell you - if you want to know the secret of this one, just ask. Even 5 people around me knew the 'jig was up' (as misterKeno explains in a J. Seinfeld voice).

My elbow hits the railing, owww! Dammit! I nodded off just 3 min before the show was about to end, lol.

So, i was eager to get out into the casino floor & warm up, ahhhhh!

Scarlett........ somehow......... gets $44 & $53 a ticket. Am i upset i went to the show? No, it wasnt horrible. It was 'so-so' - just like in the past. Again, there were (a total of 2 this time around) times that she asked the audience to applaud.

BostonBill.. have never seen Mac King. Not sure if/when i will. From i hear it's VERY kid friendly. Not that 'that' would excuse me from going -- but, y'know.

Bill, as for PEEPSHOW... nope havent seen it. In fact, up until 3 days ago -- didnt even know it existed. I guess they're doing very little advertising about it because i havent seen any billboards here in town making mention of it (nor the LVRJ). What can you tell me about it... (because, honestly, i just dont know).

If you want - you can P.M. me - or start a new thread, sir.

Hard to describe what Peepshow is because I dont think they know. Its not Fantasy in the sense its all about the bed and beautiful women. Its more elabotate than that. Lots of production numbers with some special effects and live singers. Maybe Gregrio can explaine it better than me.

The RIV is still offering one free ticket (your choice) to any show with new card signups. I convinced a friend of mine to head down and get a card, lol.

1) i bought him supper
2) he gave me his comp to ICE... he really wasnt interested in their list of shows
3) this time around... i got a different clerk & had to pay a few extra bucks (to get upgraded to the THEATER STYLE SEATS)... highly highly recommended by mK

4) ..... and presto, i'm in the FRONT ROW for this mondays' show!

(( woohoo )) :)

If i see anything different, i'll post on it next week (if you want me to).

Always enjoy Matt's "Up close and personal" reviews and I usually agree with him.

I enjoyed ICE and can't figure out how Scarlett is getting almost $60 for her show? I guess it's the TOPLESS alure that adds about $40 to a ticket?

you actually went to see her again? I wouldn't have wasted my time, even with a free ticket. But I guess if you got an 80% "peep" it might have been worth it for a guy. Now, you've made me want to go to see Ice!

Boston Bill ---- If you have the time to see MacKing --- DO IT. He is hysterical!!! I've seen him twice. Although his show is suitable for children
(16 and up) you will enjoy every minute. It's not a kiddy show, just clean fun. A little bit of everything, magic, comedy and amazement. Haven't see Peepshow and cannot comment but in any case if you decide on MacKing you will not be disappointed. Last I knew you can get a free ticket for the price of a drink as you enter Harrah's in the Carnaval Court, girls handing them out.

I saw Mac King. It was OK. There was a baby crying through alot of it and Mac even commented on it. I liked his interaction with the audience. Probably wouldnt see it again. We met him afterwards. I was comped so the price was right:)
