Last sunday i made my way to the Venetian to see the Blue Man Group. My first adventure into the mind & theater of bald fellas with bright blue paint all over them, lol.

This is a show for your senses... including your ears (even though NO words are spoken during the show, lol). Much to see indeed. The music has plenty of percussion & such... think of somewhat rock-style, but - not to the point that you get a headache.

The BLUE MEN are sort of (what i like to refer to as) a trio of alien beings, simple, innocent & such. Just the facial expressions keep you laughing!

Now, i had a seat in the (blue category) rear orchestra. It was row CC & dead center. I had a pretty good view actually. I guess it would have been better to be up closer, but oh well it was a comp seat. The seat comfort is 'fair' - as you get familiar with the shoulders and forearms of your fellow attendee quickly, lol. In addition, the stupid plastic cup-holders adorn each seat's armrest. :( Not much room. As for legroom, not too bad.

Now, i'm still not sure what the poncho's protect people from? I'm guessing it is water? The multiple times where the BLUE MEN beet on the drums & drizzle something onto the surface of the drum............. ? ........ is that just water with a colored lite coming thru the drum? From my vantage point i sort of thought it was paint being splattered about!? One of you will have to fill me in.

This was the 10pm show & every seat i could see was taken. I couldnt see the balcony though. This is a pretty big theater -- am told it was built specifically for the BLUE MAN GROUP!!!

For those of you who have seen the show... tell me, do they always do the mocking of the 'latecomers'!? I thought that was hilarious!!!!!!! This one couple is escorted to their aisle seats on the main floor by an usher & suddenly the show stops and a VIDEO BOARD shows them taking their seats. What about the flight attendant 'thing' on the L.E.D. scrollers? Well, maybe it was just a 'thing' on the night i was there.

The beginning with the marshmallows was sort of okay... i guess i was just getting settled in & all.

The band.. loved the band - especially when the lights went out & their outfits had the neon colors on them... the pace picks up & your into the BEAT!!!! Cool stuff. And, i have to love the instructional video on how to "attend a rock concert". I was thinking of posting a link to youtube that shows EXACTLY this, but - you sort of have to see it & experience it in person!!!

The instruments are zany... pipes & what-not. There's one, i think they call it a drum-bone or something. Pretty neat. Harmonic (harmonic i tell ya) sounds rock the theater.

The show was just over 90 minutes & that included one of the finale's with the toilet paper rolls. Yes, toilet paper. Just grab it & pass it forward. Ummmmmmm. Uhhhhhhhhhh, yeah. :)

Risk of spoilers answering your questions so if anyone doesn't want to know... then don't read past this!!

The ponchos do protect people from the occasional flying bits, yes... but generally only the first couple rows (the other rows have the "just in case" coverings)... I don't want to say which part it protects people from more specifically but suffice to say... it's not when most of the poncho people expect!
The theater was built for them indeed... they can hose down the floor by the poncho seats if they want and there's a trap door to clean up there too. :-)
(my fave seats are the few rows just behind the poncho ones, but I've pretty much seen the show from most vantage points).

The liquid on the drums is indeed paint... just very watered down.

Yes, the "you're late" bit always happens. The LED's are the same each show, but the names are changed... you can request names up there and/or they take them off ticket orders... and there are times when the names are 'inside jokes' (performers/staff and such).

Personally, I think the band are the best part. Great guys too... and real pros... their list of "other credits" and other projects are quite impressive.

And did you stick around to meet the blue mans and band in the lobby after the show?

I sure did... the band was wonderful - fun to shake their hand & mingle for a bit.

We are on the front row next Wednesday night. What do you mean it's not when the poncho people expect it? We're not going to be scared are we? Leaving first thing tomorrow morning and I am very excited about seeing this show. Am I going to get paint on me?

If, by chance, you do get something on you, it is usually not a lot and it is totally washable. Put it this way, I don't even bother with the poncho anymore. Don't be scared. :-) Honestly, if you've never seen the show before, your seats will be a heck of a lot of fun. You'll be able to see every expression and perhaps get some blue man interaction which is fun as well.
Do NOT forget your camera for the lobby afterward! Have a fabulous time!

I just held the poncho up in front of me when I thought somethin'
was coming my way. I did put it on at first...took it off real soon to
because you get REAL HOT/REAL FAST unerneath that plastic! LOL!

Now I'd read in re. to the paint that it was just water. The 'color' effect
is created my lights in the drums and above the stage...??? In any event,
it's no big deal and you won't be any the worst for ware when the Shows over...IT'S LOTS OF FUN.
I only sat in the poncho section once. I prefer the rows just in back of
them for a broader view of the stage.

I've seen the Chicago production. The Blue Man productions evolve and change over time, so if you see it today, it will probably be somewhat different 6-12 months from now.

Mocking latecomers is standard, so get there on time if you don't want the attention.

Splatter zone is safe, but you do want that poncho (at least in Chicago). The liquid is colored and not just water with colored lights.

Greg says it gets hot under the ponchos, but that might not be a bad thing considering how cold they keep the theaters in Vegas. In fact, you might want to try to sneak yours out for later use in the casinos. :D

This is a show I love to take out of towners to if they haven't seen it yet. They always enjoy it.

I always mean to go and see this show when in vegas but always end up not seeing them.

Do they do tickets for the show in Tix 4 tonight?

Yeah, tix4tonight has them about 80% of the time. And, i want to say that they're discounted (roughly) 35%.

Just got back. We were there last Wednesday. Had seats on the front row dead center. Loved it, loved everything about it. I have never laughed so much in my life. Is a lot of that stuff they do with people in the crowd just improv? It was great if it was. I loved the toilet paper thing. We were buried in it on the front row. I wore the poncho and yes it was hot and stuck to you. Nothing really hit us.

Glad to hear you had a great time!

Though the skit situations (for the most part) are pre-planned, the actual "what happens" and "how they do it" parts are all improv. It's never really the same show twice. After having seen the show a 'few' times now, it's the improv parts that I really appreciate. So much depends on the crowd and their responses, which performers are on stage at the time, which band members are playing, etc. Talented bunch of people!
