Three of us went to The Coffee Shop (that’s the actual name) for breakfast on a Tuesday morning around 8:30. At that time, it wasn’t busy, and the line to get in, which was moving, was only 8 or 10 people deep. We had a line pass, and were able to bypass even that line of people.

This restaurant used to be the Terrace Café, TI’s version of the 24-hour coffee shop. The restaurant is still 24-hours, but seems less a coffee shop now than it did before. Renovations have “upscaled” the restaurant a bit. The Terrace Café used to feel like a coffee shop. The Coffee Shop feels like a nicer restaurant. There’s dark wood everywhere, from the tables to the walls to the ceiling trim. And modern, but subtle, art and plenty of flowers are scattered around the restaurant.

I decided that I was going to order the same thing I had at the Peppermill a few days earlier, for the comparison test. I had biscuits & gravy (better than Peppermill), a side of bacon which was served crisp as requested (not as good as Peppermill), and a side of hash browns (better than Peppermill). And an iced tea. The biscuits were golden and crispy, and held up to the gravy. The bacon was thinly sliced and nicely crisp. The hash browns thinly shredded and crisp. The tea was unsweetened, fresh brewed, just as I like it. And it seems like TI has improved their iced tea, at least for my tastes. Previously, the tea had a strange aftertaste, almost as if it came from a mix, or had some flavoring added. Now they’re serving pure, fresh brewed. The best kind.

One person I was with ordered 3 eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns, toast, and coffee. Eggs were served as requested. Sausage came in patties. And the toast was served dark / well done, also as requested. When coffee was brought to the table, a full carafe was left, even with only one person drinking it. The other person I was with ordered a spinach and cheese omelet, hash browns, ad sourdough toast, along with hot tea. As with everything else, these were served as requested.

Overall, The Coffee Shop is a vast improvement over what used to be the Terrace Café. The only reason I used to go to the Terrace Café is because it was convenient, and my traveling companions used to like it (Family. What can you do??) The service used to be awful, food was slow to arrive, and orders were always coming out wrong. All that seems to have been fixed. Service at The Coffee Shop was excellent, as was the food, both quality and quantity). And our meals arrived quickly and as ordered. No need to send anything back as was the history of the former place.

TI did a good job with their makeover of this place. Go try it out!!
