Started out bad.:( We asked for smoking. We were seated at a nice table in the corner in the back. When we asked a busboy for an ash tray he informed us that we were at a non-smoking table. He got us another table on the smoking side. Bless him. This table was much better. Right on the walkway; we could people watch.
Then it got better.
We started with our usual of coffee, water, and juice. Then hubby had the fruit bowl (honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple) which was all very fresh tasting. Excellent. I had the half-grapefruit with a side of brown sugar; very fresh tasting and juicy, and it came with blackberries. Again, excellent.
Next, came the big decisions. What to order from the tempting breakfast combos. Hubby settled on the steak and w/over-easy eggs w/toast. He reported the steak to be the best breakfast steak he had ever had; cooked to perfection (medium). The eggs were perfect. Usually when he orders over-easys they are cooked too long. Not these. He said they were perfect.
I was a little perplexed as they did not have a combo that I liked. So I ordered two of them. The 2 eggs (scrambled) breakfast and the short stack(3 huge) of pancakes w/bacon. Those were some of the best pancakes I have ever had. They were so fluffy and hot. The bacon was crisp. The eggs were great and came w/hashbrowns and toast. Needless, to say I could not eat all of it. Everything tasted so fresh. (Much better than a stale buffet breakfast.)
Our plates came with a little orchid on the side. Not fake, the real thing.:)
We sat there for a while afterward and smoked and drank coffee. Hubby read the sports page and I worked a crossword. Our waitress just kept our coffee pot full, and we just kept sitting. She was a very good waitress. We tipped her big.
Our total bill was $58. Isn't that riduculous to spend on breakfast? But we got a lot of stuff and were not going to eat again until 6:00 pm. Also, I had received a $50 food voucher for being in the Spookeasy Slot Tournament, so we said why not and used it for the breakfast. Ordinarily we would not spend that much. (Next time, I will wise up and ask them to fix what I really want-eggs, pancakes and bacon. Don't need those hashbrowns and toast. We'll probably just share a fruit bowl, too.)
Out of 5 forks, we give this one 6. Can't think of any place where we have had a better breakfast.
