:o Eventhough we are from Texas, we don't understand some things about Texas Hold-em. We watch it on TV quite often, but there are some things that we just don't get.

We know how to play just plain old poker. But in T/H, what is the button, big blind, small blind, etc. How do you know when to ante? It seems to depend on where you are sitting. We understand about the flop, the river, etc., we just can't get the ante part. Some hands have to ante and others don't. And some hands have an advantage.

Can anyone explain? I have tried googling it, but can't come up with any good sites that give this info.

the button is the dealer. and the deal rotates around the table. in a casino players don't deal the casino provides the dealer for you. so the button is just a place keeper to show who the dealer is.

the blinds are forced "antes". the small blind is the first player to the left of the dealer . the big blind is the next person to the left.

not everybody antes in texas holdem. that is what the blinds are for.

the small blind and the big blind rotate around the table so that everyone will pay the "ante" in turn.

the big blind is usually half of the minimum bet in the game.
and the small blind is half of the big blind.

example: 4-8 game

the big blind is 2.00
the small blind is 1.00

you can bet 4.00 on the flop
but on the turn and river cards the min. bet is 8.00

the reason you have blinds in holdem is to keep everyone at the table from going broke and to still have action every hand.

holdem is a game of position . you are in the best position if you are the last to act. that way you get to see what everyone does before you have to act. the dealer is the last to act.

hope this helps . feel free to ask me if you have anymore questions.
