Left Detroit at 8:30 a.m. Got in 20 minutes early and thank goodness for that. There was a women on the flight that never shut up for 4 and 1/2 hours. Everyone within a 10 row radius wanted to throttle her. I had visions of the movie Airplane, where everyone lined up to take a swing at her. Oh I am bad! Just one thought, was she that blind to see everyone wanting to nap? Got to the Nugget and there was one person only checking people in. I guess the new owners cut staff? It took quite a long time.

The theme for the this trip happened to be Video Poker (Double Double Bonus). Everytime I go out I become obsessed with something. I played so much video poker that my shoulder is still killing me. I won, I lost, I won, I lost. Never got a Royal Flush and I certainly tried! I did get many 4 of a kinds and a few A's without the kicker. I found if you play at Claude's Bar and the International bar in the morning 9am to 11 am, you do okay. Run away and then head back around 4pm to 8pm and you will do okay again.

The Nugget seems to have taken all the progressive slot machines out since the new owners have taken over. No more Regis, no more Lucy, Elvira, etc.
Couldn't find anything I really wanted to play other then DD Bonus Poker. So I headed down to my second favorite place. The Plaza.

I played so much DD Bonus Poker at the Plaza Bar. I have so much fun and the bartenders are so fun! I just have a complete blast here. They had a promotion going on that if you win a jackpot of $200 or more, you get a $10.00 gas card. I had seven of them when I got home. Could have had eight, but didn't have enough time to get down there the morning I checked out to get them. That's another story later...

I was comped for this trip from the GN. I received 3 nights, $400 in free slot play and $200 in spa and restaurants. I ate at the Carson Street Cafe at lunch on Monday. Was seated and then waited for ever to get waited on. Finally, a waiter said have you been helped? I said no, he takes my big order of Onion soup and a milk. He drops it off and never see him again. The Keno girl takes my ticket, drops them off and never see her again. Lunch was over, I still have my tickets and don't know what to do with them. I finally found someone to tell me where to go to check the Keno tickets. I then went back late that night for the rib steak special. You guessed it, no one wants to wait on me again. Do they hate one person for dinner or what? You get with the special: steak and eggs. Well I don't want the eggs, can I have a baked potatoe instead. After going four rounds with her I finally get a baked potatoe and that's it. No toast, No rolls, no offer for salad, etc.. By then, I have had it. I left a note on my bill. Like anyone really cares anyways. Needless to say, I didn't use all my food comps. Didn't want to go through that again. I did eat at the Buffet and it was great and the waiter seemed like he truly cared to help me. Bless his heart!

Had my hair washed and blow dried and that was only $75.00 plus a tip. Thankfully it was comped. The hairdresser was fabulous, but to me a bit on the pricey side. Don't listen to me, I'm just cheap about those kind of things. ha ha! Maybe that's the going rate out west. Do have your hair done, you will love it. Hey your in Vegas baby!

Back to the Plaza where they take such good care of you. Was comped like you wouldn't believe. Ate at the Center Stage Restaurant and treated like a princess even though I was by myself. It was comped too. I bought all kinds of tee shirts, etc. at the gift shop, all comped. I did win $720. on Keno. Couldn't believe that. Was very cool.

When I went to check out at the Nugget to see if I could get comped for the last night of $55.00. She said I didn't have enough to get comped. I'm like what? I spent 8 hours a day playing video poker and can't get comped? But then she said, you have $85.00 cash back. So I payed the last night with that. I still am shaking my head over that one.

Got to bed the last night at 5am with a 7am wake up call. Oh, it's going to be a very long day. Ordered the night before a Bells Trans Sedan. She was there right at 8:30 a.m. She was the most pleasant person that I encountered on the trip. We had such a nice chat to the airport. She thanked me for the chat and you could tell she wasn't giving you lip service. She truly appreciated it. Check in was a breeze and had two hours to kill sitting in the smoking lounge listening to some guy tell me his whole life story. It was tough to concentrate with only two hours sleep, but did my best. Flight home uneventful. Thank Goodness.

I also visited Main Street Station for the first time and loved it. Wished I would have gone there more. Went to Binions. Now that's a sad place! I was there in February and had a kazillions comps. So I sat down at a three card poker table and got to chatting with a pitt boss and some how comps came up. She went over to check and said I had $1.25 in comps. I'm like what? Didn't believe her. So I went to the booth and sure enough, they wiped out all my comps. Had I known that I would have used them up in February. Oh well, Goodbye Binions. Hello GN and Plaza! So, I won a lot, lost a lot and had a pretty good time. If I think of anything that I missed, I will respond again. Sorry this is long. Laundry is done and calling my name. Take care and if you are going soon, Good Luck!

Thanks for posting. You now need some 7300 points to get comped for a night at the GN, though marketing offers are much easier to get. Playing VP that would mean $21900 thru the machine. A year or a tad more it was about 6k thru.

New ownership coming in maybe that make a change. Shrug.

Thanks for the information. :) I think I had around 6000 points. So that explains why I didn't get comped. I did one morning go through $600 on a DDB machine and it would not give me a dime. I get so stubborn sometimes and won't leave the machine until it gives me something back. It finally gave me 4 of a kind (K's or some junk) and I left it. I will go back and get my money back if it takes me forever some day (spring). LOL! I'll let you know when I get back in the spring, if it worked. It worked at the Vegas Club in February for me from the previous November. I also have a Celopatra Machine at the Plaza I'm going to attack in the spring. Oh I'm bad! :D Wish me luck LOL!

Sounds totally opposite of my stay in August and I didnt get anything comped. I hope the new owners havent changed it that much. When I was there all of those slot machines you mentioned were off to the side near the cashiers cage.
They do need to re-design the line for the buffet it cuts too far into the slot machines.
The check in was fast and easy and the rest of the staff was very nice.
Congrats on all the comps :) THE GN system is pretty tough.

Beanie,

If you liked the MSS, give them a try your next trip. At your level they will comp your room, food and beverage and who knows what. Just join the slot club and ask for a host to review your play before you leave (charge everything to your room). Ask for either Ipo or Brenda. I'm certain they will comp everything.

Then make all future arrangements for your stays through which ever host reviewed your play. They will put you up for free thereafter and probably have a limo to meet you at the airport.

Thanks for the tip :D, but I'm addicted to the Golden Nugget. I have stayed there for 20 years, going twice a year. I love that place and I only hope and pray that the new owners don't wreck it, but if they do, I will move on. I have also stayed at Binions. Don't get me going on that nightmare trip there. I had neighbors from hell  When they figured out I was the one calling security on them, they tried to break into my adjoining room while I was in the shower. It was pretty scary to say the least. I'm sure it was an isolated incident, but I'm pretty weary of staying there again. It really bugs me when people can't handle the booze and losing. If you can't, please stay out of Vegas. Thanks my humble opinion. That wasn't the first time I've witnessed this. It has happened many times before. Not just there, but other places also. I have stayed on the strip many times, but I love downtown and can't even imagine staying on the strip anymore. I love the fact that you can just whip across the street and down the street to other casinos without having to worry about your purse or yourself being mugged. I feel so safe down there at every hour of the day and night.:) So thanks again, if the Nugget goes south, I will definitely consider there.

Beanie,

No question that downtown is the place to be for us too. We've been going to Vegas over 20 years (23 to be exact) but haven't stayed on the Strip for over 10 years. We've stayed at the 4Q, California and MSS. We've liked them all but fell into a host relationship at MSS and that is now our "home away from home".

The only thing the Princess and I moan about is the lack of a spa/fitness room downtown. The only one is at the GN but it is restricted to guests. :(

Oh well. More money to gamble with.

In the last line of your TR, you wrote, "Laundry is done and calling my name."
I actually thought you wrote, "Landry is done and not calling my name." :p

I was actually dismayed reading your TR. We too, are Golden Nugget "people" for many years. All the changing hands recently has made us a wreck. It sounds like the new people are beginning the destruction of GN. Only 1 person at check-in? That's outrageous! Your treatment at Carson's (I LOVE it there) was awful. We go there and get their steak on garlic bread, it is to die for! Thank heavens, the buffet was still seemingly intact. We are not big gamblers, but the GN has always treated us really well because we show up so often ( 4 times a year). I got shudders when the "boys" took over, but actually they didn't take anything away from us. We were there in Sept. before Landry's took charge. We go again next week. I'm a little nervous now. They have always given us a North Tower room - will that change?

Plaza is a great fun place. We spend a lot of time there, but you can't compare staying at GN to Plaza. Anyways, your TR was fascinating to me. I'm not a big TR reader or writer, but your title grabbed me. And, what has happened to the staff? Did Landry's cut it, or did the people quit? Thanks so much for your VERY informative TR. I'll actually write a TR, primarily to let you know what's going on at the GN in early November.

Could you send me the comps you have left over? ('m just kidding!
