I hope this appropriate for this forum. Steve, feel free to move it if belongs elsewhere.
We booked our hotel 6 months ahead of our trip. I have kept checking the room rate on the hotel website. It has gone down 3 times! In addition, we received a post card from the hotel offering a very low rate for 3 nights. Each time I contacted the hotel, and they adjusted our room rate. We will be paying $230 less than our original price!
Moral: watch the rates as your trip gets closer!!

I agree. We will be in Las Vegas staying at NYNY Oct 24th-28th. We were originally told no comps and 159.00 a night. I said no thanks. A few weeks later we received an email from our host who said 1st night comped and 99.00 the other three nights. Yesterday I received an email offerring 59.00 a night and freeplay. Talked to our casino host and now have 1st night comped and 59.00 per night. Once we get there she will see about comping the other nights.
Keep checking the rates.

I think most hotels will adjust your rates if you provide proof that there is a lower advertised rate offered or published. Keep track of rates at hotel websites also.

Way to go! Keep checking the web sites and get those rates down. Maybe you can get them comped by the end of your trip. Be sure to join the hotels club.

What you wrote is interesting. I must stay at all the wrong places! I also booked about 4-5 months ahead for our next Nov. stay. The rates at Golden Nugget have gone up, up, up. The rates at Gold Coast and Orleans have also risen. It does pay to book ahead, but you're right. Keep checking. You people got lower rates, and I got satisfaction knowing I booked at the right time. If the hotels follow the airlines' example they'll start charging a fee to change your reservation!

If you go to the hotel website and sign their guestbook, they will frequently send you offers that are good for online booking only.
The Orleans just sent me one for $50/night good Sun-Thurs Oct 23 -Dec22
Free $200 funbook,2 for 1 buffet.
I recieve similiar ones from the Excal,Luxor,GN, Mandalay,Bellagio.
You do not have to have a players card to get these deals. :)

Depending on the dates you need, "tripres.com" has lower rates for the Orleans
