This week's Topic Of The Week question is:
What was the best and what was the worst meal (non buffet) you ever had in a Las Vegas restaurant either on The Strip or Downtown?

I'm going truly soul satisfying to say the diner in the Old Aladdin...before it was imploded, had a chilicheese omlete that I still remember in my dreams. I've been to a lot of great high end places since, and the food was great, but this was hitting a deep spot in my mind. Worst. A bowl of shrimp pad thai and the noodle place on teh "streets" of NYNY.

The worst meal I have ever had in LasVegas was at Billy Bobs at Sam's Town. I had heard so many good things and I was so dissapointed. I usually give a restaurant two or three chances, but this place isn't worth the effort.

The best meal I've ever had was at Olives at the Bellagio. It was the Beef Carpaccio. It's phenomenal. The entire atmosphere was worth it, and so wonderful.
The worst meal I've ever had was the T-bone steak and eggs at Bill's Gamblin' Hall. It was inexpensive, but the T-bone was taste-less. The eggs and everything else was fine though. I actually enjoy eating the cheap stuff at Bills. :)

The best meal in Vegas was at Blackstone's Steakhouse a few years ago. It was the best filet mignon I've ever eaten. Second to that is the steakhouse at the Luxor. Another great steak was at House of Blues....weird, I know. One of the best filets I've ever had and reasonably priced. Also, any meal at P.F. Chang's we've had has been unbelievably good. Great service and fabulous food.
The worst? By far, the worst was at Smith & Wollensky's. It wasn't that the steak itself was so bad (it was passable at best) but the service was horrible. The waiters were rude & disrespectful. That colored the entire meal...we will never go back.

Buccaneer Bay was fantastic and came to mind first, but I think it's gone now. Baccannal at CP was also an experience in great food that is also gone.
The Egg and I had a dinner theater with remarkable food and their breakfast was also really good. Gee, so many have been really good. One of our favorites is always the Cheesecake factory.
Worst.. hmm..None stick out.. Vegas probably rivals anywhere in the world for restaurants... I'll pick Rum Jungle, not that the food was bad, but the service was, they never brought most of the food, and what I got was a bit exotic for my taste.

Sir Galahad's in the Excalibur Hotel was our best. Sad to say they have closed the place. Sevice was impeccable. Food was superb. Cost was reasonable.:)
Worst was (now don't shoot us) was at Battista's Hole in the Wall. Noisy, crowded, overcooked and tasteless sauce. Plus the music was middle school level.

I had the 2nd best meal of my life at Golden Steer... I went there once at almost closing with a friend and the staff took such good care of us. I also went back for a birthday with my whole family. We all loved it. My father even stated the only better meal he has ever had was at Commander's Palace in New Orleans (not the one at PH)
Also for good local places, Rosemary's and Capo's both are great...
Worse meal... Gallagher's at NYNY, the service was rushed, the steaks were tough and the rest of the food was just so-so...
Also the Brew Pub at Monte Carlo is going down hill.
There use to be a place in the MGM, I think it was the Coyote Cafe or something like that... we had a brunch there almost 10 years ago, it was buffet style for our group but the service was so good, and the food was great it ranks up there for some good food sort of buffet food...

 Worst food I have had in Vegas was at the Riveria Hotel in Kodys 24hr restaurant. The food I ordered was an entrecote steak. It was not a steak but a slice of beef with a crust of something on top. It was cold and disgusting. Food debrie also on the floor. I had 3 french fries stuck to my shoe when I sat down at the table.
:) Best food was at Belagio 24 hr cafe. Excellent food and good service. :)

Worse meal... Gallagher's at NYNY, the service was rushed, the steaks were tough and the rest of the food was just so-so...
I love the food at Gallagher's, but I too, also felt rushed. We were a party of 6, and the server wasn't even nice to us...no sense of humor. The server just knew that he was getting his 20% tip, since they added it on the bill. I would rather sit at Gallagher's bar, and eat...and not deal w/ their attitudes. The bartenders are always happy, and willing to serve.

The best meal ever was the bone in rib eye at the Eiffel Tower. I don't know what they marinated it in, but it was to die for. You could almost eat it with a fork too.
Kokomo's filet mignon comes in a close second. But they are gone now.
I couldn't really think of any bad meals, but after having read the other posts, I agree with 2 of them. Rum Jungle--no, they didn't forget most of your food--that's all you get! That was the first, and last time I paid $25 for lunch, and was still hungry when I left. I went to McDonald's afterward to eat real food, in realistic portions.
Also, I agree with the Billy Bob's comment. I used to eat there 4 or 5 times a year. The service has gone way down hill, and they must have changed their beef distributor. The last 2 steaks I got there were so full of fat and gristle, they weren't even edible. My boyfriend sent his back and asked for another. One of those 42 oz porterhouse steaks, and it had about 8 oz of edible meat.

our family liked the breakfast at the Flamingo... it was really fresh and a great variety... plus they served everything from chocolate milk for the kids to speciality eggs as requested...
the worst is easy... the corner of Owens the Jack in the box breakfast is still sitting in my stomach for the past 3 years.

The best of the very good meals was supper at the Top of the World in the Stratosphere. Every aspect of the evening was outstanding. The ambience, service, food quality, and attention to detail was first class.
The polar opposite of disgraceful service, total lack of ambience, and lowest grade food quality was endured at the restaurant known as Blackstones "formerly" located in the Monte Carlo. How it remained such a highly rated restaurant for as long as it did is truly one of Las Vegas' biggest and well kept mysteries.

Best meal is easy - at Mon ami Gabi at Paris, just as the sun sets over The Bellagio. The steak and french fries are outstanding and add a glass of bordeaux!
The worst is easy also - the steak and eggs buffet at the old Sands. The place was a dump, the food was terrible and clientele was sketchy. It was very cheap and you got what you paid for.

best meal was at BOA. expensive but extremely good food and the service was excellent
worst is a tie between the augustus cafe at caesars and battista's hole in the wall which to me was like the street corners pizzeria but worse

The best restaurants we ate at were William B's in the Stardust, Triple 7 Brewery at Main Street Station, Roberta's in El Cortez, Benihana Village in Las Vegas Hilton, Isis in Luxor, and Hugo's Cellar at the Queens. I am sure there are many more nice ones, with great food, but we can't spend that kind of money.
Our worst meals, and there have only been a few, were at Ellis Island, the steak dinner on the Vegas Values list; it was really tough, Great Moments at Las Vegas Club; they left a huge piece of saran in my salad, and a little restaurant in the Riveria, plus the coffee shop in the Wild Wild West.
You can usually find a decent meal more often than not though.

Best: Prime Rib at the Palms Restaurant in the Forum Shops.
Best for the value: Prime Rib at the cafe at Main Street Station (now closed), and the steak special at Ellis Island. Close second is a bowl of saimin at the California.
Worst: One breakfast at the cafe at the Las Vegas Hilton. Came out of both ends for almost a full day. But, I've been back since without incident.

I don't remember having a bad meal in Vegas ever (& I'm fussy). The most
recent best was a great filet at All American Bar & Grille at Rio but that's not on the strip or downtown.

The best food is at the 777 Brew Pub at the Main Street Station, the food is excellent and well priced. There is a really good happy hour from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. with food and drink specials. The servers are all excellent and friendly. We eat there at least 3 to 4 times during a stay in Vegas. :o
As for a worst experience can't say I have had one, only at buffets.

So many great meals it's hard to single any out. The old Buccaneer Bay at TI, House of Lords at the Sahara, Kristoffer's and the Ristorante at the Riviera, Lobster ravioli at the Market City Caffe in the Monte Carlo, all were outstanding:).
In all the years we've been going I only remember two bad meals. One was the Steak and Shrimp special at the Hard Rock hotel. Had a nice meal the first time around 1993 or so, but the next time the steak was like shoe leather with a little fat and gristle added. I was foolish enough:o to try it again a few years later and it was just as bad.
The other bad meal was at Blondie's Sports Bar & Grill in the Desert Passage mall of Planet Hollywood (then Aladdin). The fish and chips were nowhere as tasty as Mrs. Paul's frozen filets and went for like $13.95. Greasy outside and mushy inside---yuck! I won't be giving them another chance:mad:.

The best meal I ever has in Las Vegas would have to be at The Las Vegas Hilton Steakhouse. I had the bone-in ribeye and it was one of the best cuts of meat I have ever had. This is one of my MUST DO things on every trip I make to Las Vegas.
Honorable mentions go to:
The Circus Circus Steakhouse which has the largest portions of meat in Las Vegas and at the best prices.
Ming at The Imperial Palace: Always good. Sometimes the service is slow and unpersonal but the food makes up for that.
The worst meal I ever had would have to be a Bally's Sidewalk Cafe which I have mentioned here a few times. We got our entire meak at one time from appetiaers to dessert. To top everything off, it was the end of the shift and the server never even waited around for his tip..which he wouldn't have received anyway. I complained to the manager and the entire meal was comped.
Dishonorable mentions go to:
Dick's Last Resort at Excalibur: Just a disaster from start to finish with the hostess saying "Oh Well" when I complained.
Bill's Steakhouse at Bill's Casino and Gambling Hall. The worst service for any meal I have ever had in Las Vegas. The food was above average.

I have had fun nights at Dicks and sometimes they servers are overly rude, but that is the idea behind the place... I haven't had bad food... but (fun) rude service... it's better to sit at the bar and just drink there, and they do have some decent Strip drink prices.... but honestly the food is overpriced for what it is, just bar food... being a local, I would go to a PT's and drink and eat there for over half the price!!!

The best meal was at Emerils in the MGM. Really outstanding food. I had the barbeque salmon. Really good! You have or make sure to save room for the banana cream pie. The best I've ever had. The place is a little pricey but worth it.
The worst meal I ever had was in the Riviera coffee shop. It was a bacon and eggs breakfast. Nothing was edible. Even the toast was terrible.

for sure the best for me and my wife was hugos cellar at the four queens unreal sevice and fantastic food the worst blondies in the miracle mile in the old alladin waited 45 minute at our table with no service because the waitrss was trying to pick up some guy and nobody else would service even though they knew she was to preoccupied.
Best Sir Galahad's. I really hope that Excalibur reopens it.
I can say that in all of the years that I have been going to Vegas I have not had a bad meal.

Best : Vic & Anthony's at The Golden Nugget downtown. Been there 3 times and tried something different each time. Perfect food and superb staff who makes you feel important. Small, dark, intimate yet the conversations around you are upbeat and happy. Love that place!
Best taco joint: Taco Mexicano behind the Stratosphere and next to Denny's. No joke! Authentic Mexican short order...some I've never heard of or seen the likes of...yet I can slip in there and leave full for less than $5 and it's goooood!
Worst: Ellis Island. Just an ordinary chef salad at 2:00 couldn't have been more screwed up with the worst service. Been there before for the famous steak special and it was ok. But the chef salad of my last visit was gross and they forgot many of the ingredients. Oh well.

My best meal that I can remember was at the Steakhouse at the Luxor..probably the best ribeye that I have ever had at least in Vegas. MY worst meal was in the cafe in NYNY...food was edible, but service was horrible. The waiter could care less if we got our food or not. And to top it off one of the entrees was cold had to send it back.....good thing it was comped.

best: tie: kokomo's at mirage or del frisco's.
worst: tie (we were there this march): striphouse at planet hollywood (it all started when we had to send back the water) and company american bistro at luxor. they seem more concerned with their atmosphere than the quality of their (overpriced) food. stick with the classics - hugo's or ruth's chris - a 10 every time.

We stay downtown and mostly hit coffee shops, but we have an occasional better meal. At least they should be better....
Best: Roberta's and Center Stage. Unfortunately Center Stage closed.
Worst: Two trips to Tony Roma's at the Fremont about 3 years apart. The second trip reminded me why I hadn't been there for 3 years.

:( by far the worst was battistas hole in the wall...boring, boring, boring :(
:o sorry to say, in 20+years that i don't have one dinner that i could say is the best i've ever had :o
BEST: TIE between NOBHILL @MGM. LOBSTER POT PIE and ALIZE@PALMS DOVER SOLE.
WORSE:
I use to eat at LOTUS OF SIAM every trip to LV.(once a month). I turned on many friends to LOS. I moved to LV one year ago and have noticed steady decline in food quality, taste and service. Lunch buffet was always horrible. Dinner use to be a treat. On my last visit we had a roach climbing the wall next us in the booth. The waiter was called and removed it. We paid our bill and left disgusted. Never did the manager apologize or offer to pay our bill. I was guite upset and called the restaurant the next day to talk to a "manager". The only comment from him was "we try our best".I will never return to LOS. There are too many great restaurants in LV. Dont waste your vacation time at this dump!

I think the best would have been the Baccannal (sp?) at CP, next would be Dome of the Sea at the Dunes. So many great meals at places in Vegas it is hard to really pick out the very best. The House of Lords, Barronshire (at LV Hilton), Sultans Table (Dunes), Steak House at CC, Barrymores (old MGM), and the list goes on.
Worst would be lunch at the, now Stratosphere, then Vegas World back in the 80's. The buffet at CC would come in second place as worst. John in Caro T-73

I didn't see anyone mention the Palms. I have to say the best meal I've had in years was at N9NE. I was taken for my birhday and it was amazing. The bread basket was a mixture from foccacia to pretzels - each one was really good. I had the lamb and it just melted. Salad was fresh and cold. I ordered a potato but with the portions being normal size, I couldn't eat but a quarter of it. It was a bit pricey, but the service was right on and servers friendly. We ate in the bar as there were no tables available (we had not made a reservation, spur of the moment). A little bit loud so not condusive to intimate conversation but if you just want good food, you gotta try it.
Best: Voodoo Lounge. Maybe not the most delicious food I have ever eaten, but very good and I love the ambience, we always get a table at a window and afterward go out on the deck.
Worst: Top of the World. For starters the windchill was like -40 outside (ok I think I am exagerating), but it was freezing and so was the resaurant, no one took there coat off in that place, I started with the lobster bisque and I am pretty certain it was made with just salt and water. The rest was very bad too. One of these days I do want to return, from the reviews I have read it sounds like we happened to be there during a bad time.
The best non buffett food I've had in Las Vegas is mexican food at Toto's on Tropicana just west of Eastern. The place is in a strip mall on the south side of the street. It has become a must stop for me anytime I'm in Vegas. The chili relano and tamales are hand made. The salsa is flavorful but not too spicy. My wife says the beans are really good too.
Toby Kieth's at Harrah's is good too. Food is good and service is friendly. The place is a little noisy but overall is a fun place.
The absolutely worst I've ever had is closed now, thank goodness, The Lady Luck.
My wife and I say if the place smells bad don't bother to go in to eat. We have found this to work pretty well so far.
Absolutely the best meals ever. I dined there three times and all three times were fantastic..
Next Monday, April 21st I am going to try Bill's Steakhouse in the same room there so I will post how that experience is when I get back.
Emeril's Delomonico is fantastic as well.
Auerole was great.. Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse is terrific too, but Michael's by far was the best.

Call me a simpleton, but the end cut prime rib at Kitty's at the El Cortez is to die for. The prime rib at Magnolia's at the 4 Queens is a close second. And finally in third place and again, right across from the El Cortez, is Mamacita's, the best Mexican food in Vegas, IMHO. I love the 2 carne asada hard shell tacos with rice and beans.

I have had several great meals in Vegas that would make my 'best' list - Delmonicos, Bacchanal, Michael's (at the Barbara Coast) and Pamplemousse.
The worst would have to have been a lunch buffet at Arizona Charlie's.

Totaly agree. We have coffee in the room when we wake up(not neccesarily in the morning) with a breakfast bar, hit the pool, hit the casino, go to the Diamond Lounge, casino then maybe a buffet. A quick burger, pizza etc is fine. I'm going to LV June 1-10. That sounds like a long time but when I live in WI and can only go to LV 1-2 times a year, I don't waste time eating at expensive restaurants. I can do that at Milwaukee and Kohler.
The tickets for shows in LV that sell for $250 can be seen on tour for 1/2 the money. That is the same with restaurants. I had a wonderful 7 course meal at the Harrah's Joliet Reserve for about $150 including the wine.

Although I’ve been to Vegas a number of times, each time better than the last, this trip for MGM Mirage definitely took the award for the best trip.
Having the chance to stay at Mandalay Bay (http://www.mandalaybay.com/)with a room that wasn’t like any ordinary standard hotel room was great. I had a king size bed, which was so comfortable, two closets, two sitting areas, a plasma TV, an oversized bathroom with twin vanities, a separate bathtub and shower and a TV in the bathroom as well. The view of the entire pool area wasn’t too shabby either! I had the chance to experience the shows Zumanity (http://www.nynyhotelcasino.com/entertainment/entertainment_zumanity.aspx) and KA (http://www.mgmgrand.com/entertainment/ka-cirque-du-soleil-show.aspx). My favorite parts of KA were the hand shadow puppets and the fireworks at the end. Seeing people create incredible things using just their hands and fingers was incredible. Zumanity was amazing to say the least - the entire show was flawless!
The clubs and bars that I went to were Rouge (http://www.mgmgrand.com/nightlife/rouge-bar.aspx) and Tabu (http://www.mgmgrand.com/nightlife/tabu-ultra-lounge.aspx) in MGM Grand, LAX (http://www.luxor.com/nightlife/lax.aspx) in Luxor (http://www.luxor.com/secret/), Mix (http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/mixlounge.aspx) in Mandalay Bay, and Revolution (http://www.mirage.com/nightlife/entertainment_nightlife_revolution.aspx) in The Mirage (http://www.mirage.com/2008/index.aspx?cmp=otc-deimir). The service at Rouge was great since the manager there and our server really took care of us with bottle service.
The last thing we did before leaving Vegas was we ate at Rumjungle (http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/rumjunglelounge.aspx) in Mandalay Bay. The place was beautiful with the tropical, jungle theme and the food was great as well. With all of the great things we did this weekend, this was definitely a Vegas trip I won’t forget!
That’s only a quick summary of the great time we had in Las Vegas, for more info and pictures of me and my friends having an awesome time in Vegas check out myawesomevegastrip.com (http://myawesomevegastrip.com/)

We usually have a decent breakfast...we're late sleepers, then we don't eat again until dinner time...6 or 7. If we get hungry before that, we'll grab a snack wherever we are.

I must admit that most of the time I've spent in Vegas we eat one buffet in the evening and we're good to go until the next night. No time for sitting and eating when you're in Vegas having fun!
However, this time I went I did eat at Magnolia's restaurant in the 4 Queens twice in the wee hours of the morning (around 2am). Their service was great, despite a bit of a wait the second time around to get seated. Food was fresh and tasted great too. The 2nd time we had a view of the casino floor and I was quite entertained by the gamblers while waiting for, and eating my food.
I can't say I've had a worst dining experience non-buffet, but as for a buffet, the Stratosphere buffet I ate at in 2001 when they were remodeling and was sent to another dining area was truly awful. There was very little selection of food and the quality was so bad it was actually embarrassing. This was my first buffet the first trip to LV and I'm sure glad I decided to give buffets a second chance because I definitely found better ones that the 1st!

I ate at RumJungle last time and it was good- just way too much food for me!
We are eating at L'Atelier next Friday night- with the four course fixed menu (Crazy Horse show package)
has anyone been there? I would like to choose 1 or 2 courses to add to my meal- any suggestions?

I did eat at Magnolia's restaurant in the 4 Queens
I have also been there. I thought it was great. I would have paid full price even if I didn't have the 241 available at the Security office.
Whats not to love? Go there. The service was stand up good. :D
