Continuing with our "Best and Worse" theme, this week's Topic Of The Week question is:
What was the best hotel room you had and what was the worst?

The best hotel room we had was at the Bellagio, fountain view. Beautiful room right after it opened. Worst Vegas hotel room we had was at the Plaza during our very first trip years and years ago.

The best room we had was at the Rio and it was comped for two nights. The worst room was at the Howard Johnson's Airport where we stayed on a Saturday night because we didn't want to pay a high price. Never again, it was awful.

Worst hotel rooms...
1 - The Plaza - They didn't even have a clock in the room. I had to look out the window at a clock on another building.
2 - Tropicana - We got a "garden room". I couldn't believe it when we got into the room.
Best hotel rooms....
1 - Wynn - The room was absolutely amazing!!!!
2 - Mandalay Bay - For my 21st birthday, we stayed at Mandalay Bay with a room looking north on the strip... just amazing! Set the standard high for years to come! The room was great too! ;)
73 days and counting...... :)

Best was a honeymoon suite at Caesar's. Treated like royalty there. (Except for the round bed. When you combine booze and a round bed, only zany hilarity can ensue.)
Worst was Excalibur. Loud and smelly rooms, poor housekeeping.

Best: 2 story balcony suite at the MGM Grand. Had a hot tub on the balconywith a view facing down the Strip.
Worst: "The Smoking Lodge" at the Imperial Palace. Annex rooms at the back of the parking structure. Rooms smell like car exhaust.

For a room we have paid for, I would say Treasure Island. But, free upgrades are the BEST!
Well, the best rooms we have ever had were free upgrades at Treasure Island (to a Presidential Suite) and at Mandalay Bay. TI's room had two bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi tub, the other with a travertine shower), two tvs (including one that popped out of the foot of the bed, double door entry, marble everything....and an awesome strip view....all because we called and complained about the filthy NY NY room we were in to a friend at TI. We paid for a Petite Suite and she upgraded us to make up for the sister property's mistakes! NICE! Treasure Island's rooms are always spotless and well-maintained. We love it there! At Mandalay, I called to let the manager know that the people next to us were smoking (we were on a non-smoking floor) and it was coming through the adjoining door, and they moved us to a suite at the end of the hall, with a 180 degree view of the strip. Two bedrooms with jacuzzi tubs, a big screen TV, a dining room, etc. Another free upgrade! FREE is awesome!
Worst room ever: NYNY's suite. First and most important, it was DIRTY! There was an abundance of mold in the showers, a broken TV and nasty smelling carpet. YUCK! A little bleach goes a long way but some hotels just do not get it!

The best had to be a suite at Caesar's Palace during our first stay there.
The worst by far was a room at the "now imploded" Boardwalk that had a toilet that overflowed every time it was flushed.

The best was a suite at Excalibur. We arrived very early and the only room available was a suite on the 28th floor.
The worst was at the Stardust in the back.

Worst
I Have To Agree The Plaza Has Some Of The Worst Rooms. Not Even A Hair Dryer Which Has Become A Standard Item In Most Hotel Rooms In Most All Places. If You Are Upgraded They Have Nicer Rooms But Still A Far Cry From A Standard Room Say At The Rio.
Best
Wynn, The Hotel, Bellagio, Venetian All Have Very Nice Rooms, But The Best Was A One Night Comp At The Hard Rock That Due To Late Arrival On A Friday Was Upgraded To A Suite That Had Three Sets Of French Doors That Opened Into The Pool Area. Seperate Toilet For Visitors And A Full Bar. Bathroom Had A Walk-in Closet And Seperate Tub(jacuzzi) And Sauna. What A Room It Was Delightfull.

I have stayed only at moderately priced properties. I would recommend Treasure Island, Luxor, Caesar's, and Orleans. I would avoid Excalibur and Sahara. Orleans is off Strip and, in my opinion, a very good deal, often overlooked because of its location. Mandalay Bay was very nice but has now priced itself out of my budget.

Best was Strip view room at the Paris w/ Eiffel Tower & Bellagio's fountains right outside our window.
Worst were the "Garden Rooms" at the Flamingo. Smelled like urine. We were able to get rooms in the Tower after my Hubby spoke to the Manager.

The best would have to be the high rollers suite at Nevada Landing in Jean Nevada... It was comped for three days on our honeymoon. The Nevada Landing Casino has ceased to exist, but the marriage goes happily on. ;)
In Las Vegas proper, it would have to be a suite at The Paris. It was also comped for two nights.
The worst was by far the room at a hotel called the Swanky Inn on Boulder Highway. It has been torn down and the Jokers Wild Casino was built on that location. It was the only room we could find on a night that Luciano Pavarotti was performing in Vegas. The drapes and carpeting were old, worn and there were cigarettes burns on the floor as well as on the top of the dresser. The bed was a round bed, but the sheets were for a double or queen sized standard bed. So there was exposed mattress on the sides the top and the bottom.
The stains in the commode, the sink and the tub made that room a torture room to be used only if absolutely necessary.
The dome light fixture in the ceiling had bugs in it, some living some dead. The bugs .... at least the live ones kept us aware of their presence all night long as they tried to crawl up the sides of the dome to get out. Thankfully they did not escape... but we did the next morning as soon as we could!
The most amazing thing was that when the the Jokers Wild opened for business they named their dining room "The Swanky Cafe" :D
It has since been changed.

Love the Grand Desert -- only downside is the lack of a casino. Great room, friendly staff and free shuttle to Harrah's. Spacious and very clean with jacuzzi.
Worst hotel EVER -- the Flamingo Hilton -- mold under the rim of the toilet --no covers on the electrical outlets -- and busses turned into the hotel past our room and we were breathing exhaust fumes -- complaints were simply ignored ... we would have paid a king's ransom to get out of that room but couldn't get a vacancy elsewhere for the days we were there.
Our friends beat us though -- many years ago they stayed in a place (I believed it was named Stupicks) where there were actually beer cans under the beds and the room smelled like a smoking lounge ... it was totally unbearable.... the Hilton was a dream by comparison....

We have enjoyed Caesars', Rio, and Paris. Rio and Caesar's are the most elegant, but the view and decor of Paris was very appealing.
Worst was Plaza several years ago.
We are definitely not hard to please if we are in Vegas--especially if the room is comped.

Since I've only stayed in Vegas 3 times, been lucky not to have a bad room. Harrah's was fine, TI was nice and Flamingo was nice with a great view of the the garden/pool area. I was just always so excited to be there, as long as the rooms were clean, I was in heaven! ;)

We have stayed at many of the moderately priced and lower priced rooms in Vegas, and the best was a brand new suite at the El Cortez for $25.00 a night, for three nights in a row, on the weekend. The paint was so fresh on the double doors, I got some on my hand. Everything was brand new, and I was glad there was a mix up, and we got that suite for that price. We had a beautiful round white jacuzzi tub with all gold fixtures in the bathroom, and a nice marble foyer.
Our worst room was at The Las Vegas Club I guess, but it is usually fine too. This one time there were stains on the carpet in the south tower. We go every year, so we often stay at the Las Vegas Club and The Plaza and they are clean and suit our needs. The Mirage was nice and the Tropicana in the tower rooms were very nice, as was the Luxor Pyramid, which is still my favourite and the MGM Grand was nice too, and New York New York, The Orleans and Gold Coast.

Best: Caesars Augustus Tower room overlooking Bellagio Fountains
Also--suite at end of hallway at Rio was VERY nice, too!
Worst: Stardust "motor" hotel rooms. They had twin beds and
we were on our honeymoon!

Best room ever was a suite at the Luxor on the concierge floor. Didn't gamble much because we were always eating or drinking, for free, at the "bar" or whatever it was called on that floor.
But the best standard room was at the Aladdin (even better than a standard room at the Bellagio or Mandalay Bay, but that's considering only the room, not the entire hotel). It had the biggest bathroom for a standard room.
The worst room ever was back in the mid-70's in the back part of the Stardust. Kinda like an ugly motel room. Then the second worst room ever was when they tore down those ugly rooms at the Stardust and built more ugly rooms.

:cool:Wynn's - the best beds on the strip. :) Next is Bellagio. We had a room with a fountain view and it is spectacular with the music being pipped into the room as the fountains dance.
Worst - Terrible's. Only reason we stayed there was because National Airlines overbooked and we got a free overnight stay and a ticket voucher for giving up our seats. :(

As most of my rooms are comped and I have highest player card with Harrahs, I've generally only stayed at their properties, so...
Best room so far has been a suite at Caesar's Palace...great service as well.:D
Worst: As a Hilton Honors member, i decided to try out LV Hilton with my mom and a friend. The room was like something from the '70s, and probably hadn't been cleaned since then. There wasn't even a coffee machine. Although they have updated their rooms since then, I recently found out not all of their rooms have been, so unless you want to pay an additional $50, you get the old "classic" room...yet, right!! Their hotel services were nonexistent.

Best - Monte Carlo. Got a free upgrade to strip view.
Worst - never really had a terrible room, although if pressed would have to say the Imperial Palace with a spectacular view of the air conditioning units.

We tend to want to experience all that Vegas can offer (OK almost all).
Worst had to be the Wild Wild West (a couple of years ago before they remodeled, but doubt that the remodel changed much). The chain lock on the door had been busted off so many times, there was hardly any wood left on the door jamb. We made the mistake of showing up before our room was ready...ok, it was a BIG mistake. The have no place for you to leave your luggage until your room is ready!
Best place (actually the best experience) has to be the second floor of the Golden Gate (right behind the "O") Scraped the paint off of the window so it would open and we could lay in bed and watch and hear the Fremont Street Experience Show. The room was so small, there was no room in the bathroom for the light switch. If you really want to experience Vegas, then try it. We would stay there again anytime....but not for a long time.

Best - Caesar's Palace - Augustus Tower Room overlooking strip and Palace Tower Rooms
Worst - MGM Grand Emerald Tower - room overlooked delivery area and dumpsters, shutters on the windows and worst of all - room smelled like stale cigarette smoke.

Easily..........the best hotel room we've ever had was at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. It's our ONLY hotel now. The rooms are wonderful, the service excellent, and you're away from the casino noise. ABsolutely wonderful.
The worst? Harrahs and the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood). Harrah's had paper-thin walls---the people next door decided to sit up and talk all night long. Also, the water pressure in the dark and dingy shower was minimal. The Aladdin had the oddest bathroom. Had a huge soaking tub, but no surround circling it. Looked like a huge wash tub at a dog bathing place.

Worse - the Mardi Gras - completely unsafe as the rooms are from an outside corridor. In one word - creepy.
Best: Definitely the Wynn, with a close second to Palace Tower at Caesar's.

The best room I ever stayed in was a 3-room suite at Harrah's which I go because I had waited three hours for my room to become available. The bathroom was the size of most of the entire rooms I have stayed in.
The second best has to be Wynn -- followed by The Bellagio (Fountain View) and The Venetian. (I had a full media comp when it first opened)
The worst room I stayed in was the Garden Rooms at The Flamingo. The entire wing was seperated from the main hotel and casino.
The worst rooms I NEVER stayed in: If the room is bad, I will not stay in it.
I got a two room suite at The Las Vegas Hilton that was still occupied when we got to it. The check-in person insisted it was empty so he had to literally go up to the room and check for himself.
I also got a jail cell type room at the IP. It was a room that had NO WINDOWS. I have never heard of a room in Las Vegas that didn't have a window.
Steve....Always nice to see 1st time posters.

Hi Steve, I.ve had so many wonderful rooms in the past and still look forward to some I haven't tried but I can answer the worst ( being so bad I turned down the free vacation I won at a superbowl party ) back then it was called the Continental Hotel and Casino on Paradice Rd. Makes me sick just thinking about it. HAD MY GIRLFRIEND IN TEARS when she thought I'd make her stay there lol. I believe it's called Terribles now days hope they cleaned it up, I wouldn't go back to see if they did. It crawled in the dark

The worst was easily at The New Frontier. Thankfully, that place is now gone.

I would have to say the best rooms I've stayed at were Green Valley, Red Rock, Rio Suites, Sunset Station, Sam' Town, Star Dust (No longer, Whaa), Hilton, Bally's and Paris. Of Coarse, they were all FFFRRRREEEEEEE!!
As for worst. I can't think I've had one as of yet.

Bellagio was the nicest---both times. Haven't had a room I'd complain about in the 20 years we've been going, and that includes the lesser properties; Tropicana, Flamingo, Barbary Coast, Riviera, Sahara, and Hooters. My brother did have some very frightening stories about the room they had at the old Westward Ho---definitely scared us away from ever trying it:eek:.

Worst - Imperial Palace. Clogged sink drain, loud, rattling air conditioner unit, when the folks in the room next door ran the water in their room a foul smell eminated from my sink, cigarette burns on the carpet and bedspreads, wallpaper coming off the wall, room wasn't ready at 8:00 p.m. so was moved to another room that was 'ready' but it wasn't ready. Needless to say, no longer stay there.
2nd worse - Fitzgerald's downtown as the room was filthy and had what looked like fecal matter on the bedspread.
Best - Harrah's, The Orleans and Jim's Gamblin Hall and Saloon. :p

Best room: Upgraded suite at the Rio
Worst room: Tie between the old garden motel rooms at the original Aladdin (circa 1995) and the squatter-special at Primm Valley. I stayed only one night at Primm in a golf stay-and-play package deal so I could save $75 off green fees.

My parents come to Vegas to visit me about 3 times a year. They get comp'ed. They usually stay at the Monte Carlo, nice hotel... nice suites, but nothing to write home about. However, they mixed it up on their trip in Jan this year. They stayed at New York, New York bc they offered them all kinds of bells and whistles. Well the room was a beautiful suite. It actually had a half wall to make it like two rooms, so someone could watch TV and the other person sleep. The host even sent us a cheese and and fruit platter. The problem (remember we are in a comp'ed suite and I will be honest, my Dad plays for pretty decent money. He plays the 50 hand video poker machines for max bet for as short of periods of 2 or 3 hours or up to 6 hours many times durning the stay) and they (gasp) NEVER CLEANED OUR ROOM. I repeat, we were in a comp'ed suite. We will never stay there again. We even called down at 7P to ask to have our room cleaned, the guy told my dad, "Sir, you have to understand, we can't promise to get to it closer to midnight." No we do NOT have to understand, you have to come clean our room.
Good rooms, Monte Carlo and they have stepped up my dad's "freebies" so it helps.
MGM, long time ago, nice room, but way too far away from the elevator.
Great rooms:
I stayed one night at the Mirage and had an upgrade on the room, it was beautiful. Marble hallway into the room, two full bath's and a sitting area with a second tv.
I also stayed at the Aladdin while interviewing there before I moved here. The room was beautiful and looked out on the Fountians... you can hear the fountains even on the 38th floor or whatever floor I was on.

It's a toss-up. Red Rock was soooooooo nice, marble everything, ton's of pillows, rolled down sheets, two flatscreens (one over my tub),etc... and the Palms fantasy tower was just as nice, just as fancy, and their staff always treat us like royalty!
Hmmm worst, I'll go with the Trop although in it's time it was one of the best.

Best Rooms
The Venetian and the Monaco Suite at the Monte Carlo. The Rio was also nice (before Harrah's took over). Room at Paris was OK but had a great view.
Worst Rooms
Harrah's - room was filthy, food under bed, windows and furniture grimy, and, when we complained, the management couldn't have cared less and did nothing about it.
The Hilton - gave us one of the rooms that looked like it was from the 50's; cigarette burns on the furniture, stained carpet, etc. Being a Hilton Honors Gold Member, we complained and were upgraded to a Director's Suite - absolutely gorgeous and very big; 2 full bathrooms, dining area, living room area, sleeping area, and bar complete with wine glassses.

 I have spent 14 years at Ballys, and 1 year at Paris.
Bally's rooms are nice and large - just need some updating; i.e. - new bed spreads, furniture. (just don't up the price!)
Paris was ok - the room was very small.

The best deal for the money is the Orleans off strip. Clean rooms with decent beds and tight security access to rooms. The Rio also has good (and LARGE) standard rooms but they are pricing themselves out of their loyal customer base (hint hint).
The worst was the former Westward Ho, especially the rooms near the Stardust lot. Dirty underwear in the elevator and nearby gunshots will undermine even the most hardcore Vegas vacation.

Best Standard Room: Wynn-We had the room at the end of the hall a couple of floors from the top. This room has windows on 2 sides and was very well appointed.
Best upgrade: About a 2000 SF suite at the Venetian.
Worst Room on the Strip-Sahara
I have stayed in some dumps but this one tops the list on the strip.

Best room ever for us: Venetian
Best of the rest: TI, Flamingo Go Room, Paris, Bally's, Stardust Jacuzzi room.
Surprisingly good for the price: Gold Coast, Primm Valley, Whiskey Pete's tower and Vagabond Inn RIP.
It'll do in a pinch: Travelodge South Strip, IP Luv Tub, and Trop Garden Room (but only if it faces the pool and not the parking lot)
Never again: Excalibur and Circus Circus
Worst ever and glad to see it gone: El Rancho

I'd definitely say the worst was the Thunderbird Hotel. Think of the movie Psycho. It was part of Bob Stupak's Vegas World.
Monte Carlo, MGM Grand, and Mirage all weren't bad, but nothing to write home about. I can't afford a "suite" so anything clean and a step above say a Howard Johnson's, is good enough for me. :p

My best was my 2 room Cariocus suite at the Rio.
My worst was a triangular shaped corner room, with a perfect view of the parking garage. It was very tiny, and I spent a whole day in it, sick with the flu. Where was it? Harrah's!

WORST; had to be a room at the Mirage, a double bed room, I wanted a King, it looked old dirty, crappy view. Other than that one time I had good stays at the MIRAGE. :cool:Best was the Augustus Towerroom at Ceasers.

Worst hotels I have stayed in were any Atlantic City casino/hotels. Vegas makes Atlantic City look lame, so I really have no bad ratings for any hotel I have stayed at in Las Vegas.
Though, if I really wanted to be picky about it I would rate the Mirage the one I liked the least out of anywhere I stayed. The walls were paper thin and the bathroom door was kind of in the way when you opened and shut it due to the bathroom being a small size.
Treasure Island WAS my favorite place to stay until prices magically doubled. Now that they charge too much money for their rooms, they've lost my business. I can find a much better value for the money with just as good customer service else where. Don't get me wrong, TI is still awesome, but I won't ever pay what they are currently charging given there are much better alternatives for me else where.
The best hotel, or the one I liked the most, would be the Fremont. They have clean rooms, FAIR prices, friendly service, and they ALWAYS comp the low rollers, and ALWAYS send room offers. This place for me was the best in that it has consistent customer service in EVERY department no matter how much money you walk in there with. I've gambled in Boyd Gaming's sister properties and they still treat me good and allow me to earn comps at any time being a low roller. If anyone is a model and perfect example of showing proper respect to ALL guests who enter their establishment, IMO it is Boyd Gaming. I noticed a couple people in this thread mentioned the Orleans as a "best". Orleans is a Boyd Gaming property as well. Yes, they did own the Stardust, but they already had pre-planned for Echelon place anywheres 5-7 years before it was imploded and they weren't going to dump any money into the place if they were going to tear it down.

Most everywhere I've been has been clean and decent. I've stayed at: TI, Mirage, Harrahs, MGM, Rio, Aladdin, Excalibur, LV Hilton, Bally's and the Riviera. Probably the best was Treasure Island, had fantastic view out of windows in a corner room and was extra large. Bally's was very large also.
Worst would be LV Hilton or Riviera, and although out of date they were OK. (we had to change rooms at the Riviera to get a decent one though, the first was really run down).
Worst hotel experience was at the Mirage, we finally had to call security on the people in the room next door who were fighting, and then call them again and again until they finally moved us to another room. Didn't think that much of their "upgraded room" either, especially for what they were charging.
I will defend Excalibur some, I've always had a clean basic room at a great price there, and the location is perfect to get around.

The best rooms we've stayed in were Harrah's and the suites in Palace Station were very nice. The Gold Coast is decent if you're trying to save money.
the worst rooms were the old garden rooms in the Flamingo - the roof leaked, you felt like the floor was going to cave in at any moment!! The garden rooms at the Sands were dumps too ! I've never stayed in (Thank God !!!) but I've seen the garden rooms at the Tropicana - old and musty and the courtyard rooms at Palace Station - old, musty and no security.

The best hotel room I have ever had in Las Vegas was at Luxor. It was one of the Spa Suites on one of the very upper floors. It could have been a little better with a view of the strip but we had a view of the Airport and actually loved that, sitting in the tub and watching all sorts of planes come in and take off. Every so often there would be a 747-400 series come in or a 777 come in for a landing. It seemed like the flights never stopped. The room was great and I would stay there again anytime.
We also had a room at BALLY'S on the 23rd floor. Very nice large room and the shower and tub were always clean and the room smelled great when we walked in. We have stayed at Bally's a few times and have always had a nice room, it's the old MGM Grand so the rooms are large and its in the middle of the strip and we love it. Seems to be nice and clean and well kept.
The WORST room we ever had was at IMPERIAL PALACE it was room 007. You had to take an escleator and 2 elevators to get to the room or go this round about way that took longer. I would love to know who deigned the IMPERIAL PALACE because I am positive the same person who designed the Imperial Palace also designed at least ONE THOUSAND Rat Mazes. The room smelled bad. The hall way smelled like somebody was constantly smoking Pot and the shower had so much pressure it could rip your skin off and the shower drained slowly. We stayed one night and told our friends we hated the place and moved over to Bally's. They stayed one night more at Imperial Palace and then they moved over to Bally's also. Harrah's has purchased the Imperial Palace and hopefully Harrah's will fix the place up because after CIRCUS CIRCUS LAS VEGAS the IMPERIAL PALACE is next in line for Implosion. Never Ever stay at the Imperial Palace! I have never stayed at Circus Circus Las Vegas but we walked in to the casino and it was so dirty and icky and "I am not joking" my shoes actually kind of stuck to the carpet when I walked thru there. Now CIRCUS CIRCUS RENO is actually still OK to stay at, I will stay that. Now to end this long rant we have always wanted to stay at Monte Carlo and Treasure Island and the {POLO CLUB because it looks interesting from the outside and what I have seen on the internet}.
Worst is the Tropicana, it has to be the garden area at the Tropicana, it's dirty, and SMELLY!
Excalibur has also gone downhill since 9/11.
Best is Monte Carlo, they have suites with jucuzzis in them, and they're also roomy. Aladdin, which is now called Planet Hollywood is beautiful with nice "BIG" roomy bathrooms and it's clean too.

Best room was Bellagio fountain view. No complaints what-so-ever about this room.
I can't really say I've had a "worst" room. I've stayed at Bellagio, Mirage, Monte Carlo, and Bally's. Bellagio was the best, but the others were very nice. They were clean, roomy, and served their purpose.

The best room was Las Vegas Hilton, 25 or so years ago. Convention in town and they didn't have my FIL's reserved room. They gave him a 3 bedroom penthouse suite. We moved from the cheapo Holiday Inn, or whatever we had, in with the in laws for the weekend.
Best that I reserved and stayed in was the Premium Palace Tower rooms at Caesars Palace. Second best was Wynn. The worst was called Emerald Suites, which the airlines put us up in when our flight canceled.

Best: Venetian
Worst: Vacation Village, which is long gone. We won a free stay on the big wheel and made the mistake of staying there on our next trip :-(

The betst room i had was Sunday night at ph. the worsr was several years ago at wild wild west(big mistake just because it is a station casino don't ever check in.
Best room - a jacuzzi suite at the Monte Carlo directly facing the strip. Everything in the room was very nice and clean...and was the most comfortable bed ever! It was an awesome way to end the day of all that walking by relaxing in our jacuzzi and looking at the lights on the strip.
Worst room - New Frontier...what a dump! It was even depressing to play there in their casino. We usually always end the night playing for a bit at wherever we're staying but everyone there always just seemed to have an air of desperation around them and no fun atmosphere at all about the place. We bid them a big Good Riddance when they were imploded!

The worst room was probably at the Imperial Palace...they had the "patio" door bolted shut, so until I could jerryrig a tool to get that open, the room was a humid, stinky mess. But it was a truly a palace compared to the room I had one night at the Red Garter in West Wendover.
The best room? The rooms at New York New York and the Alladin were pretty nice.
The most over rated rooms? Main Street Station and the Flaminigo.
Good values and old favorites? The Sahara and the Riviera.

I havent stayed at too many different places only because we get such good comps at the flamingo--rooms are nice but last time we were there we were kept up all night from the music at margaritaville--i agree with most other people that the imperial palace was my worst--no safes in the room and the hallways smelled old and musty--

Best - TI.
Worst - Harrah's (although we've had a non-Las Vegas casino hotel room which was much worse).

I have stayed in lots and lots of different rooms on-Strip, off-Strip and Downtown. Never really had a terrible room, but the South Tower at Plaza is kind of scary and smelly, and the elevators at the Frontier were tiny and dark and about 100 degrees!
Best ROOMS were at Venetian, TI, and Aladdin, although the BEDS at Silverton and MSS are the most heavenly beds I've ever slept in!

Best regular rooms - close between Caesars Augustus and Palace Towers and Wynn (only question for Wynn is, what kind of sadist puts a scale in a bathroom in Vegas<g>).
Bonus - getting a full size suite at Caesars one trip because we had some problems with power in our room.
Worst - no contest - the old Hacienda the year before they tore it down - the lamps were bolted down to the end tables and they were broken at the base, doors looked like they were kicked in, stains in sink, ugh! Fortunately it was only one night and we moved to Flamingo after that. The really sad thing is that we had stayed at Hacienda about 5 years prior to that and it was a nice, inexpensive hotel:(

Well I have to say the best rooms we've had were Sam's Town and TI. Liked the GN and would stay there again.
We really haven't had a terrible room but just some bad experiences with hotels.
For example, Imperial Palace rooms we have stayed in were clean but one year the hallway smelled bad-like something had died (that was a long week). I really like their 02 room we stayed in last year. Once we stayed at the Excalibur and the housekeeping sucked! We were there 4 days and the room was only cleaned one time-we had to call down for clean towels and the last night there, we couldn't even get those...Stayed one night at the Super 8 back in the 1990's and never again. Just didn't feel safe...
All in all, I would say our favorite place to stay is Sam's Town when we have a car available, and then will choose Imperial Palace or Barbary Coast (whoops-Bill's Saloon-haha) because of their location only.

Worst room - a standard room at Gold Coast. I wouldn't have been surprised if I needed quarters for the TV and if there had been a pay phone.
Best Room - A Grand Suite in The Palms Fantasy Tower 34th floor. Let me explain:
Walk in the Door - a wet bar with a TV (all of the TV's were flat screens)
A Powder Room with phone.
A big Living room with a BIG TV (50 inches or more)
A remote control for everything - big a toaster it had a big touch-screen to operate it.
A dining area with a gas fireplace and another (not-quite-as-big) TV
TWO BIG! windows with remote-control drapes
The Bedroom shared the fireplace with the dining room and had it's own not-quite-as-big TV and had another big window with RC drapes.
A walk-in closet (no TV)
Bathroom 1 - another TV and a very nice shower. It could be used as a steam shower and had about 20 nozzles.
Bathroom 2 - another TV, a Jacuzzi tub separated from the dining/living room by a translucent glass wall and another shower - with six big shower heads and big enough for maybe six or eight people at once. (the best shower I have ever had)(all by myself that is)
Of course lots of marble, lots of mirrors, an extremely comfotable mattress, deluxe linens and on and on. I lost count of the telephones, never got to play with the audio/video system and got lost several times.
The view was of the Rio and towards the Strip.
Best of all -- it was only $50. We had an offer to stay 2 nights for $99 but they could only acommodate us for one night under the offer so the halved the price. Not a comp but it makes for a good story.
Best: Wynn (beds are like sleeping on a cloud!)
Worst: IP

We have stayed at all of the nicer properties and some of the worst in Las Vegas.
Our all time Favorite was the Wynn. It wasn't a special room but the bed was so comfortable that my wife, who never is able to sleep got 8 hours of sleep. The rest of the room was very nice, clean and well appointed.
Our second Favorite was The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. Suites are very nice and comfortable.
The worst is a toss up between the old building at the Tropicana, the old building at Palace Station and something called "the Las Vegas Club." All were worn, smelly and your feet had a tendency to "stick" to the floor, because of the grime and crud.
You get what you pay for and there is nothing that is a free lunch!!:D

The best is the Golden Nugget spa suites- They are 2 floors and are amazing.
The worst- Stratosphere about 2 years ago. The room had this horrible smell every time we walked in. With 2 guys staying in the room we kept on blaming each other.
It turned out to be a moldy pork chop and potato the was left under the air conditioner unit for God knows how long.

I have been going to Las Vegas for almost 40 years. When I first started going there were no places like the Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, etc. The only "big" hotel was Caesar's Palace (which was small compared to what it is now). There was nothing between Caesar's and Sahara, if you can imagine that, or the other way either (I think the Aladdin was the only one there). If you got a nice, clean and reasonably priced room you were happy. I have recently enjoyed staying at the Imperial Palace which was nice (at least if you get a room overlooking the pool, you get to see the Luau show). Harrah's was nice, as well as Barbary Coast. The South Point was the best only because it was new. The rooms are very quiet too. My last time was at Sam's Town. It was a very nice room, nothing extravagant but I am planning to stay there again this year. I like the casino there and can get to other places with their shuttle. Since I have been retired and the price of everything going up, I really don't care where I stay as long as it is clean.
The worst places were the Stardust and Flamingo. I used to go on a lot of charter trips (which is another thing they don't have anymore) and they put us in the "motel" units in the back of the hotels (which aren't there anymore). Of course, there weren't many hotels at that time either. Usually the TV or toilet didn't work right and it was pretty scary walking to your room at night.

I've stayed in (almost) every hotel/casino on the strip.
Best: Wynn Salon Suite
Worst: Excalibur Standard Room

The worst room by far was the now imploded Alladin, dirty rooms, filthy bathroom, hall carpets were covered with trash. Had to beg for additional towels, they were about the size of a hand towel.
Best by far was the MGM Grand, real nice room, staff was very helpful and polite. Bally's and New York,New York were very nice too.:D

worst room we had was Flamingo..old unrenovated, wallpaper peeling, view of the heating system..way down about a dozen corridors from the elevator, tucked in the back, old bathroom...sheets kept pulling up from the matres, no mattress cover, very uncomfortable...the rest of the hoetl was fine..just the room was bad, and in hindsight should have complained
my stay at the Gold coast ranks way over this room...and it was as simple as you can get
best room was at Harrahs last year..nice view overlooking the Mirage volcano and the rest of the strip, comfortable beds, well soundproofed...
nice room at Bally's one year as well...

Our best room was a penthouse on the 32nd floor of The Palms Fantasy Tower. It was amazing: 3 bathrooms with 2 showers (one with disco lights and 5 shower heads), a jacuzzi, Denon stereo system, bar, living room, dining room, floor to ceiling windows, and more...
Our worst room was at the New York New York- the stupid roller coaster track was right outside our window. Nuff said.

I love the rooms at the Wynn...but the price is pretty high.
I do love the "GO" rooms at the Flamingo, and normally they will give you a free upgrade. I do have to say that the regular rooms at the Flamingo are horrible though.
I was pleasantly surprised by Bill's Gambling Hall. The rooms are all refurbished, and comfy, and priced perfectly.
