I know this is probably a dumb question, but is it safe to take a bus from downtown to the strip? I know a cab ride costs about $20 one way. If it is safe, do any of you know where you pick it up and the number of the bus. Also, how often do they run and is it safe like at 1am?

Thanks for the help.

Have seen some very interesting people riding the bus, but never encountered any problems. Not sure if I'd want to take it at 3am, but have ridden it mornings, afternoons and early evenings

Not a dumb question at all. Id say it's safe. Ive taken it in the wee hours of the morning when the sun was coming up and it seemed to be people going to work.

I've never had a problem riding the bus but be prepared for it to take you a while. Hopefully it won't be too busy in the wee small hours of the morning but I've seen it taking an hour for a 10 minute journey. I take taxis now, it's much quicker.

There are stops all the way up and down the Strip and the downtown stop is at the end of the canopy (not the Plaza end, the other end).

Good point. I forgot to add make sure you're not in a hurry.

I've always felt safe, tho have never ridden it quite that late. You pick it up at the intersection of Fremont and the Strip. The stop is right across the street from the El Cortez. I usually stand right around the main intersection until I see the bus coming....I feel a little more visible to any security on Fremont St.
If you are nervous about the bus itself, sit in the main area near the driver. I usually meet friendly people, and get/give info while riding.

We've taken the bus from the strip to downtown and back many times. Never felt unsafe. Bus stop downtown is on the street right past the canopy, the side street. Can't remember what it is called. Does take awhile, but I enjoy it, watching people and looking at everything going down the strip. I take it with my daughters and sister-in-law, no men and still we don't feel unsafe. Of course, there are four of us, so we could gang up on someone if we had to. (LOL)

And this is the Deuce also? That transportation website makes that double decker bus look pretty good.

Yes, this is the Deuce. The Deuce replaced the CAT on the Strip although you can still get the CAT to other places, i.e. Henderson, etc.

The CAT bus and the Deuce bus is public city transportation therefore everyone rides it (tourists and locals). The buses are as safe as the buses that run in any other city... NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Los Angeles, etc. Again, it's public city transportation.

The bus stop out front the corner of Neonopolis and LVB is "safe" too. Take the bus at 1am or even at 4am and you'll be fine. It's really nothing to worry about. Like a previous poster said, there security on bikes riding up and down Fremont Street. And also from observation if you go a block further east to the El Co there is always a officer on a bike stationed on that corner at night. NV police know where they need to be stationed and they patrol where patrolling is needed. Yes, I understand not being from Vegas, that most tourists worry about the safety of DT, but there really need not be any worries. I hang out around DT all the time and even work DT and I am still here today typing on this very message board LOL. :) I've been finishing my shifts at 1am and I never encounter anything 'scary' or 'unsafe' and I am walking to my car from 1st and Fremont via Bridger Street (next to the city jail lol) to the Plaza. This further debunks the myth of DT being unsafe at night.

If you wish to experience an unsafe area I can direct you... keep walking east of LVB as far as you can :p Otherwise Fremont Street from Main Street to 8th and Fremont (where the El Co. is) is totally safe and under control.

We've frequently taken the Deuce between the Strip and downtown and found it comfortable and safe and, as the others have said, SLOW.

We did have very memorable trip where the bus driver decided he was a comedian and over the course of the trip constantly entertained the bus with his routine (e.g. advice letters to the bus driver, what not to do in Vegas, etc). While I don't think we would have paid $$$ to catch his act, it did make the time pass more quickly.

That reminds me of a bus trip I took maybe 5 or 6 years ago from the Luxor to Downtown. As you can imagine, it took a looooong time, way over an hour. But the bus driver kept us entertained. He sang and had everyone on the bus singing his backing vocals, told jokes and entertained us with stories about his wife. I really think he ought to have had his own show!

I've ridden it late at night with no problems, other than the location where we caught the bus. It was kind of off downtown a block or two and was very dark.

There may have been a better location. You should probably check for the bus station in daylight.

If you're riding the CATT bus 109 (Paradise Rd route that makes connections to the Premium Outlet Shops) then those stops are located a block or 2 away from the Strip (there's one 2 blocks east of the Stratosphere on St. Louis, and one on Main Street across from the Stratosphere behind the Denny's). Those bus stops are fine at all hours of the day. I drive past them all the time, even in the early am. The only reason Main Street is dark in the late night hours is because all of the businesses on that street are closed.

There's a Deuce stop on LVB across from the Denny's next to the closed down wedding chapel. That one might be the one you are referring to that is dark at night. The only reason it is dark down that way is because most of those businesses on those few blocks are closed and boarded up (Strip Centre on the left is all closed up, and the wedding chapel to the right was recently closed). Otherwise, the one that is before that is the one across the street from the Bonanza Gift Shop near the intersection of Sahara and LVB.
