Steve's Newsletter pretty much confirms the reason why we might not see a drop in room prices. Last year 300,000 more people visited Las Vegas than the prior year.

Our only hope to lower the room prices are the additional 9,000 rooms scheduled to open and a bad economy. I don't expect either of those reasons will put a dent in the room prices.

Here's the next [possible] problem. If a significant number of people stay away from the Stip hotels, will the prices for the off-Stip hotels increase? That might cause a backlash that we don't want.

I guess I'll just have to save up more money or get a loan from Doris.

According to this below, from last week, tourism has dropped 1%. While that number is not high, neither is 300,000.

What I'm seeing, more than room prices, are the air fare prices not dropping. I think this will have a significant impact on travel to Vegas. I recently used to pay under $200.00 to get to Vegas, now it's almost $400.00 and they're not coming down.

Cheers!

There was an article in our local paper today that for the first time in I don't know how long, attendance is down in Las Vegas this year. The only reason February boasted an increase was because of the extra day. Supposedly hotel rates are coming down. I'll believe that when I see it.

I'm with Jimmyvegas on the airfare. Costs us almost twice as much as it did 2 years ago. AND everytime we try use our frequent flyer miles - oops, DARK DAYS.

Spent quite a few hours trying to use my two Rapid Rewards tickets - I'm meeting my niece from FL out in Vegas. What a pain trying to find two open days/times that work for us:( Started out with the idea I might try to make the Play All The Way tournament at Caesars in the beginning of June - couldn't find coordinating flights at all for this one. Moved to a VP tournament at Paris 6/23 to 6/26, well we could get there for that one, but we had to be prepared to stay in Vegas way more than the 5 nights I allow! Finally found two dates for both of us so I booked 7/27 to 8/1....that's a far cry from what I originally was thinking about. This is the first time I'm used my Southwest free tickets since they went to the new system and it's definitely not as good as the old one(pretty much could decide on a flight the day before and if there was an open seat you got it). I can understand why they're limiting the free seats, and I know they've extended the time you have to earn a ticket, but I miss the old way. I guess we'll all just have to adjust to the way air travel is going to be. Hotel room cost doesn't usually make a difference to me as I get the nights comped anyway. I have noticed a little more mail, both snail and email, with specials for various hotels.

I'm more concerned with airfares than hotel prices. I can always find a good deal Downtown but it takes alot more effort to find a decent airfare. Too bad all these smaller airlines are having so many problems. Unless you want to book months in advance (whihc I did) it's very hard to get a low airfare.

I agree with you BostonBill. It is the air fare that is most disheartening. Always can find a hotel deal.

Know what you mean. I tried to get FF for the PATW tourney in June. Nada. Airfare cost me $310. The tourney in Sept.-- IF I can get there Sat. morn in time for late registration and get a room on Monday night I can get FF miles for 9/6 thru 9/9, otherwise the tic will cost $255 for 9/5-9/8, provided I book it NOW. - Ridiculous - Used to cost $165 to fly from Dallas RT. USAir, AA and Southwest are all about the same on fares from Dallas.

It costs a lot more from Canada to Las Vegas. We used to pay about $655 including our higher taxes. This time we caught a one day sale with WestJet and it 'only' cost us $407 each including taxes. It was a deal for us.

The Imperial Palace has great rates, especially if you contact Bob Cohen. We were very pleased with those rates again - and our room as well.
