Here's the objective facts. Last July I called a host at MSS and explained I needed 4 nights beginning Oct. 12th, could she do anything for me? We are relatively low rollers but have had some comps and casino rates at the MSS in the past.

She immediately told me that they were really booked up on some of those days and she'd get back to me. True to her word she got back to me about 3 or 4 days later and said she had got me 4 nights, beginning Oct. 12th, at the casino rate. She took my credit card number and gave me a confirmation number. Yipee!

Last night (T-4) I got a call from a host at their sister property, the California. She said they were severely over booked at MSS the night of the Oct. 12th and she had to move me to the California for the night of the 12th only and then the other 3 nights would be at MSS. She said we would be comped the night at the California for the inconvenience.

On the theory that beggars can't be chosers, I said ok and now what was to be 4 nights at the MSS is 1 night at the Cal and 3 nights at MSS, with the night at the Cal comped and the nights at MSS at casino rates.

What's your opinion? Did I make the right decision? Should I have insisted that they honor the first commitment? Did I really have a choice?

BTW, I don't mind the Cal, it is just the hassle of moving after the first night that is a bit perturbing.

Your opinions please.

I guess I'd look at it this way. They could have waited tell you got there and told you. That would have ticked me off. But at least by letting you know ahead of time you know what to expect. One free night is ok with me. I'd also tell them at MSS that it would be nice if they through in a few buffets, for your inconvience. Anyway have a good time. Its VEGAS and it doesnt get much better than that.

that wouldn't bother me at all since it is just right across the street and it is free! free being the key word here. how long does it take to throw everything back into your suitcase? i am one of those people that doesn't really unpack -- just my toiletries so no problem for me!

I think they handled this right. You were told from the first contact with MSS that it was a busy week and they were nearly overbooked, but your host got you the casino rate anyway. Having been in the hotel business for many years, I know that unfortunately - things happen and overbooking is the result - they called you right away and told you the error and offered to comp you the first night at their sister property which is across the street and connected by a walkway. Considering that they could have moved you t the Cal and still charged you for the 12th or, worse yet, moved you to another hotel not convenient to the MSS, I think you did the right thing by accepting.
