This week's Topic Of The Week question is:

What was the most money you spent on one single purchase in Las Vegas. This could be a gift, a hotel room, a meal in a gourmet restaurant, show tickets ...or anything else.

During our first trip, we were up quite a bit. We would put our money in a magazine and at the end of the trip, we went to Emeril's New Orleans Fish House for dinner.

I'm not a whale, just a teacher married to a radio DJ. We don't normally spend too much when we go out - about $120 with tip when we have a nicer meal. Well, I was allowed to choose any bottle of wine I wanted which was quite fun! For a full dinner - drinks, wine, apps, dinner and dessert - it was $400! What fun to be able to give our server a lovely tip and not have to worry about whether we could afford milk and bread for the kiddies when we got home. Needless to say, we were complete gluttons that night and it was sooo much fun to pretend we had money!

About 5 years ago, we had the most expensive dinner of our 18 yr marriage. We ate at the Top of the World and it came to over $250  for the both of us, so I guess $125 each. We enjoyed it and said it was worth every penny.
At the time, we didnt' have much money, so it was really quite a sacrafice, but we still talk about that dinner and the view.

I am going to Vegas in two weeks and meeting a friend. He asked me to go see "Love" with him and it is costing me $140.00. Yikes, that's half my budget for a three day trip.

I lost $1600 gambling and spent another $750 for a helicopter ride to grand canyon landing, box lunch, and boat ride in the canal. FUN!:D

We spend the most money on show tickets including "LOVE", "O", "Mystere", Celine etc. Have also spent over 100.00 per person for dinner on occasion, but usually don't eat in the high end restaurants.

I needed a dress for a show & ended up spending $120 for a designer (betsey Johnson) dress from the Sahara shops (the casino had just opened & they were still putting in the shoppes). I got the most conservitive dress I could find for the money & have only worn it once since (on a cruise). The most I spent for a show was nose-bleed tickets for C. Dion, but I managed to get moved (comped) to the main floor due to my disability -- I panic at high places when I have to look straight down!

A Chanel purse for Suzy: $1,500. That was a year ago, and got credit for every present that needed to be purchased for her for the past year. But I think my credit is up, so Valentine's Day might set me back a few dollars. If it helps, I saved money on the tax.

I'll need a loan from Doris to buy the ring ....

Two up close tickets to "Phantom" were close to $300.

Helicoptor ride for two over the Strip was near $200.

Have no regrets about either one---money well spent!:)

February '07 Dinner at Nobhill with friend for his 40th birthday about $350. Classic Cheese Fondue & Lobster Pot Pie to die for.

November '07 Elton John's last show at Ceasar' for 2007 with my Sister (her 1st trip) was $280 per ticket on the stand by line. The show was great but I'm not sure it was $280 good.

O at Bellagio with my Sister again $165 per ticket. My treat for her birthday. So worth the price. I would pay that again and more. It was the most spectacular Cirque show I have seen so far (saw Zumanity & Mystere previously).

I paid $800 for two tickets to see Rod Stewart at The Rio on NYE 1999. The money was later refunded to my credit card as they made it a free concert due to lack of ticket sales.

Other than that I made a losing $450 bet on the Jets years ago. My friend asked me to go halfs and I said OK..he came back with a $900 win bet.

Big weekend in Vegas with my 2 best friends. We were celebrating 40 years of life and adventures (we all met each other when we were 5 years old). We pooled our money together and spent $10K on a weekend to remember:

$900 on Elton John Tickets (3@$250 a piece plus taxes)-- we got on stage with him and got a backstage tour

$2500 (split by the 3 of us) - VIP suite at Bellagio (along with limo service daily)
$1000 (spa day at Caesars for 3 of us)
$1000 (split by the 3 of us) on the "eye candy guys" at Olympic Gardens followed by another $1500 spent at Pure niteclub
$1000 (Prince Tickets & Dinner)
$1000 donation (we attend Sunday church services and we donated the money in memory of our missing "fourth" - Carla, a childhood friend who passed away 24 years ago from AIDS - I still miss her.)

We each took $500 to the casino floor and we won big .. ($10,000 and $7800) and other little ones so combined so we actually brought back money.

Spent $300 on tickets to Blue Man Group when it was at the Luxor. I loved it and have since taken my son to the concert tour (he loved it, too). Hubby hated the show and I never told him how much it cost.

I'm really a low roller, but I "visiting" Caesar's high limit area (passing through) and dared to put $10 in a $5 slot machine. I played two tokens at once and hit 7's. Payoff was $1,500 for $10. The next morning I ordered room service breakfast for two at what was then Aladdin's (now Planet Hollywood). Fresh tropical fruit, bagels and croissants with cream cheese, marmalades and butter, gourmet coffee and a bottle of Dom Perignon. Price tag, $368.00. Woo - whoo! I spent $500 buying Christmas gifts at a mall off Maryland Avenue and used the rest to payoff my VISA. My husband will NEVER get over the amount I paid for breakfast. I did learn anytime you order libation in a room, it's double the actual retail. That bottle of chamagne was $240.00. I don't drink, so I wasn't impressed with the taste and had nothing to compare, but overlooking the strip at the Bellagio fountains with my cushy robe and champagne glass was priceless.

I spent the $187, and it was worth every penny. I kept the light sticks, and streamers from the show as souvenires.

I did not keep the "toilet paper" from Blue Man Group though. That show did not impress me either!

I'm looking forward to purchasing stage seats for Barry's show. When my investment pays off, I'll fly my folks out here, and we'll have a grand ole time. I just hope Barry's still around by then!

Doris

Doris,

Now now, Doris. But don't forget that I'm amortizing it over a year, so if you consider, her birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Labor Day, Independence Day, Flag Day, and all the other days in which Suzy thinks she deserves a present, my money was well spent.

And I saved about 1.5% on tax, if that's any consolation.

Why splurge? `When we hit big we take most of it home. After paying federal, state, and city taxes we have some left over for the next Vegas trip.

My partner and I were in the 11th row for the Barbra Streisand Millennium Show at the MGM Grand in 2000. Tickets were $2,500 apiece! Yes, we were nuts, but we just HAD to see her. And the next night, we saw Bette Midler at Mandalay Bay....quite an expensive weekend, but one we'll never forget!

Spent $750 for 3 tix to see Celine Dion - took my parents. They loved it so I guess it was worth it!

Almost bought an Italian leather jacket at The Venetian for $2,000. I had won a $4,000 royal flush and was feeling no pain. That jacket sure looked nice but my common sense got the better part of me so I didn't buy it.

Spent $10,000 on 5 identical diamond bracelets in a jewelry store in the Forum Shops. I bought one for each of the women in my family, mother, myself, sister, and 2 sister in laws. I saw this as a sort of bond between the women and figured we can pass it onto the next generation. I had the bracelets sent to everyone, and so the next time I saw one of my sister in laws, I asked her why she wasn't wearing it and she gave me some flimsy excuse, and for the next six months (we lived in different states) every time I saw her, she didn't have it on. Finally the truth came out. She lost it on the very first day she wore it....I felt very sick. Trust me, I will never do that again. Imagine on the very first day!:(

Additionally, the next time I was in the store (after my major purchase), one of the salesmen ignored me, didn't want to wait on me. I called the next day and complained to the store manager, and she said they have had their issues with him and apologized. I will never set foot in that store again.

Front row tickets for two to see Madonna last May at the MGM. 5300.00 plus the agency fees. It was something I had wanted to do in my lifetime but seats five rows back are just as good and go for about a third of the cost.

I would say it is a toss up between dinner at Fix in Bellagio (which was worth every penny and more) and a front row couch to see Zummanity(worth almost all the pennies)

We will be dinning at Top of the World next month which I hear is pricey so that may be the new winner!!

For all the people who bought jewlery I always wondered if anyone went in those stores as they always seem empty. My husband said they must or they would not be there. I guess I should tell him he is right!!

It's funny, I've always wondered the same thing myself, and then I ended up buying stuff. Weak moment I guess and a few jackpots doesn't hurt either.

I'd have to say it was dinner for 6 at Hugo's Cellar downtown. My hubby & I had a 2 appetizers, as did my brother & his wife. We all had amazingly tastely entrees. Only two drinks (hubby had wine) & one dessert. I think the total (not including tip) was around $500.

I treat myself when I win a jackpot (lately its been few and far between.)
I spent $320 on a pair of sandals. My father was on the trip and he nearly
had a heart attack over the price. I've worn them so much and they are the best shoes I've ever purchased.

I've bought a couple of designer handbags that seemed like such a good idea
in Vegas...until I got home. Then it was like what was I thinking?

We splurged on a penthouse suite at the Bellagio for three days for a special anniversary. We hardly spent any time in the room. That was a waste of money. I could have spent it in the casino!

Also spent $250 to see Ringo Starr and his all starr band at the Hard Rock.

We spent around $500.00 at Michael's in the then Barbary Coast. It is really missed.

My husband bought a trinket at Excalibur for $100.00.

Everytime I hit a good jackpot we go to someplace nice. Have been to The Range, Voodoo Cafe and Bill's Steak House. I don't remember the cost, but it was more than we would usually spend for dinner.
