Has anyone stayed at the Sahara? We plan to do so next spring but would like to hear from others who have stayed there and what they thought of the rooms, service, casino. The good old basics. Thanks

I've not stayed in the hotel, but I've gambled in the casino.

The casino had very nice low minimum games when I was there. Both $3 craps and $3 blackjack were evident. The casino had a nice "old time" feel. There were beautiful little touches everywhere in the construction and architecture. There were cool pictures of old time vegas performers on the walls all around.

As I recall, I lost a fair amount of money there. However, I enjoyed the place very much.

The Beatles did stay in the hotel once. If it's good enough for them, it'd probably be good enough for me. However, they stayed there something like 40 years ago.....

I stayed at Sahara 3 times two years ago. The former Grand Lady of the Strip
is showing her age. I found my rooms(In North Tower, Tangiers I think) were clean and comfortable. Not for luxury or fancy amenities, but an enjoyable stay.
The personel I encountered were friendly and helpful. The dealers were friendly
with low minimum games--$5 games always at all hours.

The Coffee Shop was good food--low priced(Slow Service at times). Mexican
Resturant was good food with a reasonible price.

Comps were generous at Slots and table games.

With the monorail station a short walk away, you are convient to the Strip
Mid and South.

Good Luck and enjoy your stay.

I have stayed at the Sahara for our last 4 trips to Vegas and have a trip already booked for November. We stay because of the cheap rates. The rooms are comparable to staying at a Holiday Inn or Best Western. Nothing fancy, but they are clean and the air conditioning has always worked well.

We also like the low limits in the casino. You can usually find $1.00 tables in the morning and afternoon. Going into the evening the tables usually jump up to $5.00. I never play the slots so I can't tell you much about them.

My wife and I usually gamble a few hours each a day and the comps are usually fair. We typically eat the Buffett for breakfast each day. You can usually find 2 for 1 tickets somewhere. The Buffett is good for breakfast, but I wouldn't eat any other meals there. Typically they comp our breakfast meals and our room.

For the price I don't think you can beat the Sahara.....

I agree with what's been said - the Sahara is an older hotel that has been maintained reasonably well and is a good value for the money. I would never have stayed there before the monorail because of it's location so far north on the Strip, but in June I stayed there for 4 nights because the rate was only $39.95/night and I wanted to see how the monorail worked.

Based on my experience in June, I would DEFINITELY consider the Sahara again. The monorail works great (the 3 day unlimited ride pass is $25 dollars, which I probably would have spent in 2 cab rides), my room in the Tangiers Tower was clean and comforatable (it is the newest tower however, the Tunis and Alexandria Towers date from the 50's/60's so the rooms might be smaller and more dated) and the casino was fun and lucky for me. I like staying in a place that has got some Vegas history under it's belt and the classic black and white photos of celebrities at the Sahara throught out the casino were great - my favorite: Connie Stevens, Liberace, and Buddy Hackett (?!) together in the 70's!! What a hoot. The pool area is large and not crowded and the service was friendly. If you're someone who can live without all the elegance (and Price!) of a Bellagio or Wynn, you should give the Sahara a shot....

We've stayed there our last 9 or 10 visits and have been happy with it. The Tangiers tower has the better rooms. Slot club has been good to us. Like the restaurants; buffet is average at best but reasonably priced. Monorail availability has made our stays much better ($8 round trip for two to the MGM using the 10ride/$20 pass). Its not the Flamingo or Bally's as far as location and ambiance but we like the laid-back atmosphere.
