Have you ever given or received a Las Vegas themed Christmas/Chanukah present?

If so, what was it.

I go to LV every January on a "girls" trip - and have received $ 25 chips for
a few different casinos in my stocking. Seems Santa had someone pick them up for him.

Does a plane ticket to Vegas count?

In 2001, I received an early gift, when my parents paid for Room costs & show tickets to David Cassidy's concert performance in November of that year. It was a great show & I LOVE:D the Rio!

EVERY YEAR I get something Vegas connected for Christmas. One year it was a retired casino with Red Skelton and Lucielle Ball on the face of it from when they played together in Vegas. Another year it was an (almost) antique metal type postcard (for lack of a better word) that my brother had framed for me. I've sent him framed slot glass from machines that have been taken out of play. I've never done one lit, but that may be a project I take on. This year he'll be getting 3 books about Vegas history, some I got from LVA and some off of Amazon. We have a CHRISTMAS tree ornament, shaped like a slot machine....don't know when, or from who, it showed up, but it's there. Vegas on the mind all year round even though we only get out once a year. Last year, I gave my sister and the wife tickets to see Celine Dion, I guess that would count also :) MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!:D

I received the flashing relica 15 inch high "Welcome To Las Vegas" sign along with a Treasure Island robe. I love them both :)

We often give Las Vegas calendars to friends and relatives that are Las Vegas visitors:). We also enjoy receiving them as gifts;).

My mom moved to the valley several years ago (I'm in the midwest) and every year, we all get the "free-bies" from Fiesta Henderson that were collected during the year. She really enjoys getting anything free and saves her having to buy gifts. And, it gives her more money to enjoy the $.05 video poker machines and bingo. We get a big kick out of it anyway.

We always exchange "Vegas" or "gambling" gifts with the couple that we travel to Vegas with. Our best one is a calendar they had made at Walgreens from 12 photos of some of our favorite Vegas trips. We also have about a dozen gambling ornaments on our tree...favorite is a Santa playing a slot machine. We've also gotten coasters and even a dishtowel and potholder with the Welcome to Vegas sign on them.

Well I got chastized for taking "Christ" out of Christmas by using the "Xmas" abbreveation instead of Christmas so I changed it.

I hope no one else was offended.

For crying out loud, we're talking about "Sin City", gambling, drinking, porn, and someone complains because you used a common abbreviation. What's next? Well, I'm Catholic, and I was NOT offended in the least.

I got a Vegas themed makeup bag one year with a picture of the strip on it. Everybody who knows me even slightly knows I'm crazy about "Everything Las Vegas". :D

I got a light that has a revolving Vegas panoramic transparent picture going around it making kind of a disco effect in the room. It's a blast at parties. Few other things I gotten since everyone knows I'm a Vegas nut; key chain, Christmas ornament, T-shirts, tickets to shows. Heading there Jan. 10th!!

:D

Actually, I wasn't offended so much as just getting tired of seeing CHRISTMAS called by anything else. It's CHRISTMAS. Does anyone EVER ask you what you got for "XMAS" when talking to you direct? Nope. Does anyone ever ask you where you are going for "XMAS" when talking direct? Nope. That being the case, we aren't text messaging to another person, we should be able to call the day what it is, CHRISTMAS. We don't do it to any other holiday. Does anyone even know why "CHRIST" was ever replaced with an "X" in this "common abbreviation"??

Do you think, for a second, that even in Sin City, people aren't praying? Every card flip, every pull of the handle, ever roll of the dice.

Steve, it takes a big man to go back and fix something and then to admit to doing so. You are a class act, no doubt about it. ;) Merry CHRISTMAS :)

Since our family knows that we love to go to Vegas as much as possible, in the past we've received gift certificates to a couple of the hotels that we were wanting to try out. That's always a great gift idea to help with the ever increasing cost of rooms!

I've also bought my husband a flask with a Las Vegas scene of the strip etched on it. He brings that with him on every trip we take there...you never know when you might need a little extra shot added to your drink!;)

Oh please please please let’s not go here…. We are a huge diverse group with a common love of all things Vegas. I sincerely believe that no one, especially Steve, intends to offend anyone with the words or the abbreviations used in posting. Let’s try to respect typing styles and expressions. Now if someone could bring me a ladder so I can climb off my soap box I would be much obliged. :o

I remember someone stating that the Greek letter X, representing "chi" was often used in early Greek translations of the New Testament. Thus the use of "X" may be a short version of writing Christmas, but does not necessarily translate into an attempt to remove Christ from Christmas. In fact, X was used as an abbreviation for Christ as early as the 16th century.

Thanks Steve for your efforts to provide entertainment on the board. You are doing an exceptional job.

It's amazing how the topic of the week can be changed by just 1 letter.

Back to the original topic of the week---

I give my parents Vegas calendars every year. My Christmas cards are pictures of me in front of the nicest tree I can find in Vegas--usually Bellagio, and made at CVS in minutes. I've also sent the basic key chains, tee shirts, mugs, and a few free-bees I've gotten at Sam's town.

I'd love to receive Barry Manilow for Christmas this year too! When I hit my next jackpot-ha ha-maybe I'll buy myself a ticket!

Vegas is within walking distance if you have the time.

Wondered if anyone would come to Steve's defense by knowing the truth about Xmas. I, however, choose to spell it Christmas.

If you want to get REALLY technical about putting Christ back in Christmas, it isn't about "gift giving and receiving". I seriously doubt that was God's intent in sending his son. The retailers made it all about gift giving and receiving. "Christ" as in part of the word "Christianity" is for taking care of your fellow man/woman, and NOT for making sure you get tickets for the latest hot show or cheap room rates, or the latest version of Play Station for that matter. I think Steve does a fine job of taking care of his fellow men and women. And now, to paraphrase someone else's posting, I'm ready to get off of my soapbox. To stay politically correct, Happy Holidays everybody! ;)

Happy Holidays everyone!

Does CSI DVDs count as Vegas? :D I get the new box set every year. I also get a Vegas calendar (that mum and I buy each other in the summer then carry them home just to swap identical calendars over as the bells ring at midnight Dec 31st lol).

Re: the Xmas thing. It could be the Greek meaning Chi but I also notice some artists such as Christina Aguilera being called Xtina. From fan sites I am lead to believe that the X is meant to be a cross so it would be something like "crosstina" which, depending on how it is said, is meant to be Christina. Ditto with the word Christmas. I wouldn't be offended however. In days were people say "lol" for laugh out loud, it is quicker to type xmas than christmas so it's a victim of the modern day text speak I think!

Ok this is a three part answer.

1st Thank You Steve for including Chanukah as a Jew I get tired of all of the stores starting Christmas in September and not having any Chanukah stuff.

2nd To all of the people who are saying lets put Christ back into Christmas, they best way to do so is by charity. Find charity that fits with you views and values (for me it is mainly the Ronald McDonald House) and give both time and money to the charity. Also from my understanding of Christianity aren't you supose to live every day with Christ in your heart? By doing this there is no need to put Christ back into Christmas as her will already be there.

3rd To answer the actual question I have given chips, spa and restaurant gift cards, and show tickets. The largest gifts that I have given involving Vegas were to the homeless shelters to help those in need. The last and largest gift that I gave is hard to explain but I helped two people reconnect which was the most fullfilling gift of all. I have not received any Vegas related gifts but would love a gift card to Joel Robuchon.

I've given and received many. But my one regret is that I forgot to buy a Barry Manilow Christmas tree ornament for my aunt on this last trip. I hope I don't get struck down by lightning.

Steve you were just being politically correct, that's a good thing; I personally was not offended, but Christmas is, after all, Christ's birthday and the reason for the season. :)

As a Roman Catholic I also get sick of that; as far as 'Chanukah stuff' we have plenty of it here, all the stores have Chanukah displays albeit small ones. :)

I knew what you were referring to. I just used it to make my point.

Our local shopping mall, besides having a Christmas Tree, has a humongous Menorah in one of its aisles. First time I've ever seen it there in the 30 plus years I've been going to that mall.

Try the Gambler's General Store at 800 S. Main St. They have everything you could possibly want and more, from books, to chips, to playing cards, to slot machines, to refrigerator magnets...hundreds of them, to every kind of souveneir you could think of, and many you would never think of.
You might phone them and inquire about a toenail clipper. 800-322-2447. We had fun just browsing for a couple of hours on oou last trip

I realise I'm a little late with this post, but hey, I'm new here :D. I received a copy of "Las Vegas - Now and Then" by Su Kim Chung last CHRISTmas, some of the photos in it are fantastic, I love seeing how vegas used to look, compared to how it is now. My first visit was 2005, so I missed the days of the dunes, Desert Inn etc., but love seeing them

If so, what was it.

Steve
This year I got a discount on rooms at the IP- $27 a night, so I treated my parents to a vacation. Unfortunately, we found out that the week before Christmas is NOT the time to go-- there were few shows and nothing happening.
Clint Holmes opened his Christmas show at the Sahara, which I found in a last minute search on Vegas.com. We got cheap seats since they were offering a discount to Vegas residents (our cab driver got them for us!) He was playing with a small combo- bass. drums & guitarist.

I used to receive plane tickets every year from my husband, but with the bad economy and high air prices, I pay for my own now. We also do not visit as often as we used to.:(

Everybody knows we collect Las Vegas items (we have our basement turned into a Vegas room), so we get a few items each year. Mostly wall hangings.

We have given calendars, and does giving to all the casino for 12 years count?:(
