Young, stupid kid here. Again.

Anywho, I was wondering a few things from the big dogs and high rollers:

First off, what determines if a machine is "Full Pay" and what is otherwise. I understand it has to do with what the pay scale is, but I don't know the specifics. Please feel free to plop down a link here, as I wouldn't want you to have to type out the payouts! I would like to know as I feel this will take up a good portion of my trip.

Second, do most of these VP machines have blackjack on them too? I have to say, I'm a bit of a cheapo wimp. I love blackjack, but throwing five (or more, going on New Years) bucks down on the table is tough for me. And yes, some of you will say "Why the hell are you going to Vegas then" and the reason is I'm young and stupid (see first line) and because I want to! I will seek out the seediest and shadiest casinos and the best paying, lowest minimum tables I can find! This is my quest! But back to blackjack. I was wondering about the blackjack as I love playing on video machines. Way lower limits and you can do things most pit bosses would stab you for (counting, progressive bets, whatever tickles you).

Last, if you have any other favorite VP schemes (that do, or more likely don't, work), please leave them here. I promise, I won't tell anyone your secret to winning it big. You know you have one!

Ok, thanks.

Love, The Stupid Kid

Go to LasVegas Advisor: http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com then click on the link on the left side Best Video Poker. This will give you a list of the best video poker for each casino. Example of full pay for jacks or better, full house pays 9, flush pays 6. This is a 9/6 game. You probably won't find any other machine for jacks or better with better pay offs for these 2 hands.

Normally don't find blackjack on the same machine, but it does exist.

On a Jacks or Better (most straight forward game), a full pay would be 9 coins payout for a full house, and 6 coins for a flush. You'll often hear these referred to as "9/6 machines."
Be careful, though, that you don't get a 9/6 machine that only pays 1 coin for 2 pair. The correct payout for 2 pair is 2 coins. Some folks, unfortunatley, just look for the 9/6 machines, and don't pay careful attention to the 2 pair payback, and end up getting burned. :(

I havent gone downtown for a few years but last time I was there they $1 min craps. I walked up not realizing what the limit was and asked for $200 in chips.
I started playing and realized everyone else had $20-$30 in chips. There were some shady looking characters there. This kind of made me unconfortable since my BAC was probaly about .20 and I just flashed more money than everyone else at the table had combined. So I colored up quickly and bolted back to the strip. My first trip to Vegas I was 24 and took $400 to $500 for the entire trip--7 nights. Now I take $500 for each night I will be there. You can have fun with a few hundred, but set a budget per day and stick to it.

I was sitting at the Barbary Coast one night playing blackjack and two youngsters about 20 or so sat down beside me. They were talking about their plans for the weekend. To make a long story short they both had $200 to gamble on for the weekend and were as happy as could be. One of them got on losing streak and started doulbling up. He was broke in about 1/2 hour  and I thought he was going to cry. So pace yourself you can always bet like crazy when its almost time too leave.

Video blackjack is a terrible BJ game. You can't count, because the cards are electronically generated and equivalent to a reshuffle every hand. Plus, BJ pays 1 to 1 frequently. That being said, I frequently play it at the bar top VPs when I'm playing for drinks. It's lower volatility than VP.

Also, keep in mind that VP is a skill game like BJ. If you don't learn the correct strategy, you're giving up significant expected value.

Just to clarify the correct information about video blackjack given by bigalbr, the machine will say that blackjack pays 2-1, but that is really even money. You bet $2 and they give you back your $2 and another $2. To be the same as a real blackjack game the machine would have to say that blackjack pays $5 to $2.
