It will be my first time going Downtown right from the Airport. Is it a lot less expensive to take a shuttle? Does anyone know what cab fare is? Even tho I'm always in a hurry to get to my hotel, I'll try to be patient if it's that big of a difference. Thanks!

my driver got on 15 and it didn't take long at all. ( i stayed at GN ) and i think it was around 25 if remember correctly. i am unsure if i would have the patience to do the shuttle thingy and have no idea how long it would take or if they just do downtown dropoffs or even what the shuttle fare would be tho i am sure it would be cheaper than cab. depends on your importance, i guess.

We used to use the shuttle exclusively, but after getting on the wrong bus and almost missing our flight home, we now only take a shuttle TO our hotel, and cab it BACK to the airport. This way we know we're getting to the airport on time.

The shuttle is quite a bit cheaper than a cab, but you'll wait until the bus fills up before it takes off.

Also, for some reason the shuttles are a little erratic about picking people up.

take a taxi, less headaches and faster than the shuttles, unless you enjoy seeing casino driveways.

I have been using shuttles for 25 years--All shuttles get you there. Only greyline gets you back and on time as far as I am concerned. I have never had a problem with them. I am going in a week and it will be greyline again.

I don't know about anyone else but after a 6-8 hour trek from New York, I just want to get to the hotel as fast as I can and the shuttles are not the way to go. It is also cheaper for a group of three or more to take a cab to most Strip hotels. I definitely would not take a shuttle on the return to the airport. I have seen the faces of people when their shuttles were late.

Ditto. . . .I gotta tell ya', I've tried it all, and unless you are south strip, where a cab ride is close, the advance limo is the way to go. I'm like Steve. When I hit the airport, I want to see a beer, the hotel, the casino, and the sports book, not necessarily in that order but as quickly as possible. Shuttles are for those who want an unhosted tour of the strip.

I guess I must be more patient the older I get. I always use the shuttles going to the hotel since on my first visit a very nice cab driver gave me a tour of the city starting with the highway to downtown and all the way up the Strip to get to my hotel - "The Dunes", which was basically a left turn and go straight less than a mile! I was seriously po'd when the cab back to the airport took only about 6 minutes.

I wrote a letter of complaint but never heard back from anyone.

On that same trip my girlfriends wallet was stolen on the Strip shuttle and while the police and the staff at Mirage were sympathetic - what could they do after the fact. I also found out that the girlfriend wasn't interested either, but that's another story.

You know, in reading this over, I'm not certain why I ever went back to Vegas, but I have been back many times.

The price is generally $11 to $13 round trip. Taking a cab downtown costs much more than that.

Remember, you are on vacation, so why hurry?

As long as you aren't in a hurry, the shuttle from the airport to your hotel is certainly cheaper than a cab, but if you are staying downtown, expect a lot of stops at nearer hotels on the way. Not a bad way to do a little sight seeing. As for the return trip to the airport, shuttles aren't particularly reliable as far as being on time to pick you up, and may also make a lot of stops on the way to the airport to pick up other passengers, increasing the possibility of missing your flight home. So for the return trip, I would choose a taxi. We're going twice in the next 6 months, with 4 people each time, and we've discovered that as long as you book far in advance, rental cars are very reasonable, and for us the only way to go.

We hate shuttles too. Cabs are all we do unless we rent a car for a day trip or something. Sure, shuttles might be cheaper or free, but seriously, we are on vacation - what's a few bucks more to get where we want to go FAST? Without waiting in line or making several stops.

Different strokes and all that. To us, it IS vacation and we want to enjoy every minute of it. I don't worry about spending more - it's vacation. :)

If it costs you more than $25 from the airport to the Golden Nugget you have been long hauled - if you get a really honest cabbie they can get you there for under $20 in light traffic - don't hold your breath waiting for the honest cabbie however.

We have been going to Las Vegas at least twice a year for many years. WE used to take a cab from and to the airport, but after being ripped off a couple times by shady cab drivers taking the long way, we now stick to shuttles. They are MUCH cheaper and feel safer. We have never had to wait long at all to leave the airport. Yes we had to stop at a few hotels to let others off before getting to ours, but it has never been more than 45 minutes. And have never had a problem with getting a shuttle back to the airport. The longest we ever waited for a shuttle back was 20 minutes. So if time is not that big of an issue with anyone, I suggest shuttles.

Cabs are the only way we travel now. We've done the shuttle thing, but hate how long it takes to get to and from your hotel. My husband got a limo one year, of course a bit more than the taxi ride, but he did it to give our teenage daughters a thrill on their 1st visit to LV. Perhaps I'll do the limo thing again next month when my hubby and I come back to LV for our 17th wedding anniv.

I haven't paid over 25.00 to the Nugget, and as you said - light traffic can be under $20.00. However, I can see it going up to or a bit over $25.00 on a busy night - even the expressway, while fast, can get a little slow.

check the price of curbside limos at the airport. some are "per person" rates, meaning if you share, you pay a minimal fee. a while back, it was $5 per person to the strip hotels, but i'm not sure what it is now. also, be very careful when you leave the hotel and try to catch a cab. some say that the wait for a cab can be half an hour or longer at the major hotels. this could make you late for your plane. also, cabs tend to serve strip hotels more because they can do more fares as it is a shorter drive to/from the airport.
