I have no problems with fine dining . but i prefer a great coffee shop to any gourmet restaurant. Good foood at a great price. years ago you could always count on the coffee shop at every casino. They where open 24 hours a day.
and you could catch some great deals late nite. anyone remember binions steak and eggs for 2.99?
coffee shops used to be some of the best restaurants in vegas. now if you can find a decent coffe shop the prices are so high and the food is so bland, you might as well go to a high priced joint.
But there are still a few great coffee shops in vegas. Some of my favorites are. Carson Street Cafe, at the Golden Nugget. Magnolias, at the Four Queens.
Luckys 24/7 at Hard Rock. Victory's Cafe at Cannery. Bay City Diner at Golden Gate.
When i want a great meal at a decent price i hit one of these joints.

I agree - I love a good coffee shop, and they are getting harder to find - I always liked the one at TI, not sure how it is anymore. One of the best parts about it, other than the food, which I liked, was that they put the check on the table when they bring you your food, there is nothing I hate more than waiting and waiting for the check. I really wish more places would do this, if you want to get something else, they can always add it to the check and bring it back! I filled out a comment form there several years ago stating that I liked this policy and encouraged them to continue it, and they sent me a certificate for 2 free meals!

A couple of other good ones are Kady's Coffee Shop at The Riviera that had some great food at low prices and the other is the Pyramid Cafe at the Luxor.
I haven't been to the Pyramid Cafe in a few years but the food was good and the portions with humungous.

Good food at the coffee shop at Gold Coast.
Also have had some good food at the one at Tropicana.
We also enjoy eating at the more casual coffee shops in
the casinos.

Ditto on the Carson Street Cafe at the Nugget. Excellent food, generous portions, reasonable prices. ;)
Make that 2 votes for Kitty's at the Tez.

Bay City Diner at Golden Gate is one that we enjoy. Also the one at the Plaza. Cant think of the name.

All of the "locals" casinos have good, lowpriced food. Stations Casinos--Sam's Town--Arizona Charlie's has a Great $2.50 Ham & Eggs(Huge)
In the Strip casinos there is still some good food, but over priced in my opinion($10+ breakfast)($2 coffee).

Bally's has or had a great coffee called Side Walk Cafe. It was great. We ate lunch their several times (last year) and each time the food and service was excellent. Portions were huge and it seem like the prices were around $10 each. I second Steve on Kadys at the Riv. You can find some good coupons for them too.

Try Sherwood Forest at The Excalibur. Good food, decent prices and all night specials. Open 24 hours and sering the entire menu 24 hours. Smoking and non smoking rooms make it nice. :)

All of you are right. Though I don't go to Vegas as often as I use to, trying to find just a simple meal is becoming harder to do. Side Walk Cafe is, was, a long time favorite of mine. Though now I'm finding that Mr. Luck’s at the Hard Rock has taken its place. Food is good. I've never had a bad meal; though the service could be better it's a nice place. The other thing I like about the place is that there is sort of a low-key party astrosphere. Big thing for me is that price wise it is pretty cheap to eat there. :)

We get full RFB and still would rather eat at the coffee shops. If all I cared about was food, I could stay home and eat. I go to Vegas to gamble and want to eat a good meal that's served fast so I can get on with the business at hand. What's up with all these fancy schmancy restaurants in Vegas? I have a feeling more people are worried about what they're eating in Vegas than what most people used to go there for -- gambling. I don't get it...All major cities have gourmet restaurants. I'd go to the ones at home so as not to waste any playing time in Vegas. But that's just me I guess...

Terrible's Casino Coffee shop (can't remember it's name) is the best coffee shop in all Las Vegas. The food is fabulous and the prices are very good. The servings are huge and the service is good. I always try to eat there when we're in Vegas.

I like the one at Barbary Coast too! I think it's called the Victorian Room. They have great food at any time of the day and not expensive. It's convenient too because we usually stay in the middle of the strip.

Ate last month at the Golden Gate and was disappointed in there food. They changed there menu and just didnt care for the choices given. Hope they go back to the old menu. The waitress we had said they had been getting lots of complaints.

agreed...
The Victorian Room at the BC (or Bill's) is really good.
The Restaurant (yes, it's just called "Restaurant") at Ellis Island is great!
Caribe Cafe at the Mirage is consistently good. Not cheap though.

And don't forget the Peppermill - have never been disappointed, and you get enough food for two people.

Went to the Peppermill, Kadys, Ellis Island, & Hash House A Go-Go this last week. All were still great.

Yeah, the peppermill is also a good choice!!! It's classic w/ their scenery & THAT 70'S SHOW "firelight lounge", he he he he. The prices are a bit steep, but they make up for it with (as Treasurat said) the portions.
If you can make it to downtown Henderson --- go into the RAINBOW (owned by the Peppermill). Similar menu, but dirt-cheap prices. Just amazing stuff!

I agree that coffee shop food is usually good, and I have eaten at the one at Bally's years ago and liked it very much. But one that I would NOT recommend is the one at Red Rock...called Grand Cafe. Food is quite unexciting, and I have heard from others they're not crazy about it. I've only gone there in times of desperation, i.e., when nothing else was opened. To be honest with you, I would rather eat in their food court than the Grand Cafe.
misterKeno
11-16-2008, 05:40 PM
Yeah, it's ironic that you should mention that... because the RED ROCK has the best food court of them all with:
Capriotti's (for philly cheesesteaks)
and
Rubio's (for mex)

Doris, I ate at the coffee shop at RR once and I agree with you. No reason to go back. Service was slow and food was, well, disappointing. I ordered a reuben sandwich and I was so in the mood for it but it left much to be desired.
Agree with Steve on the Pyramid cafe. Ate there about six months ago and portions were very large and food was delish.
I'm also a big fan of the coffee shop at TI but I haven't eaten there in years so I can't speak to how it is now. I used to look forward to eating there at least once each trip.
I've eaten at the Bally's coffee shop a few times and have had no complaints.
As for the Peppermill, always superlative!

I think the Augustus Cafe has gone from good to bad, service is so slow, even when no one is there. Carson Street i think is the best.
I have eaten at Augustus twice, and I totally agree with you. So disappointing as you would expect better from a Caesars property. When I used to stay at Caesars years ago, I used to dine regularly at Cafe Lago. I find their food to be much better and service was better. But, since Augustus opened, I think Cafe Lago was no longer open 24 hours.

I agree on the Augustus. Service is awful and the food isn't all that great. You would think Caesars would do something about it. Cafe Lago is now a buffet, so that's out.
A place we liked when we came in late at night was the Il St. Louis at Paris; now it's closed, I think. At least, it's no longer listed on the Paris website.
I'd really like to try the Peppermill, but W won't eat anywhere we can't get it comped.
Damned cheapskate husband. Oops! Did I really say that?:eek:LOL

So, would it suffice to say that W eats to live and not live to eat??
Anyhooo, think of it this way, the less you spend, the more YOU have to gamble with. :D

That's not very nice, Doris. I'll be trying Noodle Asia at the end of this month based on Lori's and your recommendation. I'm not too sure about any other place you've recommended. I think I'll stick to Lori's recommendations.
But as for cafes, I like the one at the California. There's always a line any any time of day or night.
I got sick after eating at the cafe at the Las Vegas Hilton (I can't say it was absolutely their fault, but I couldn't think of any other cause), so I won't go back unless it's the only place open.
I accept the concept that the price isn't getting much cheaper. But I can't say that the quality is getting worse, but it probably hasn't improved though the price increased. Maybe with this downturn in the economy, Las Vegas will go back to enticing its patrons with low cost rooms and food.

Yeah, let's get back to the '80's when just about everybody served those cheapo breakfasts of 2 greasy eggs and sausage with rock-hard biscuits and watered down gravy for 99 centavos. Those were the days!! LOL
What has really struck me as strange about this 'peculiar' economy, is that gas prices are going down, but food and everything else is NOT.
I paid $1.85 for gas this weekend but $.99 for a can of green beans.

I thought judging from the title to this thread it was about coffee shops dying from the economy. The Gold Coast relocated theirs into a portion of the buffet and severely cut the hours. They also did away with the graveyard specials.
Caribe Cafe at the Mirage also cut down the hours. Now if you want to eat in the middle of the night you have to go to the deli.

Oh yeah, remember those days of cheapo breakfasts? I remember trying to figure out what to tip the waitress when my bill was $1.06 at Fitzgerald's. I think I gave her $2, which was the first time I've ever tipped someone more than the food (and almost twice the amount).
And only if you can shove that can of green beans into your gas tank and have it run! Wouldn't that be nice.
Whoa, was that a typo? $1.85/gallon?

Nope, not a typo. Gas is $1.85 a gallon for reg. unleaded at my local corner Exxon. I filled up for $33 this past weekend.
But back to the coffee shops, Harrahs Cafe is not a bad place to eat, but they don't stay open all night. I think they close around midnight. We have had to resort to Denny's next door several times for late night munchies because the Cafe was closed. LOL
There are just not many good places that stay open all night any more.
