This week's Topic Of The Week question comes from Jane in Las Vegas.
When you're thinking food--what's your favorite slice of Heaven in Las Vegas? It doesn't have to be pie or pizza either, and it can be on or off the strip.

It used to be Bamboleo at the Rio, but it's being replaced by some barbecue place.
I'll go with the Carnival World Buffet, specifically the far right corner of the Asian station with the samosas.

We really enjoy the atmosphere and food at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the Flamingo. In fact on our cruise to the Caribbean this month our tour in Key West is Margaritaville!! :)

It's not a slice, actually, but for us it's close to heaven. The Italian Ristorante in the Riviera Hotel serves rolls wrapped with crispy prosciutto and a hint of honey---warm from the oven. When eaten with a little basil butter and a perfectly prepared spinach salad it is a heavenly pre-dinner treat for sure:o . We've never had them anywhere else, so we make it a point to try and dine there once a year, at least.

Fried Mac'N'Cheese at FIX, very nice. I've had fried M'N'C at other places and it just doesn't compare!

We love Ricardos at Flamingo and Decatur. Used to be in the MGM until the monorail came through. Margaritas are great!! Large portions and fair prices. The carnitas burrito with verde sauce is to die, moist and delicious roasted pork fill this burrito. We have not had a bad meal there in 9 years. It is very walkable from the Rio, except maybe during the summer. The cab ride would be short, i think it is maybe one mile from the Rio. Check it out!!:D

We LOVE to have pizza at New York New York at about 1 or 2 a.m. It is a blast to sit and watch people as we hang out in "Greenwich Village" sipping a beer and munching on some really great pizza. We also get the added bonus of listening to the dueling pianos!
When we are in the mood to dress up we head a little off the strip to the BEST prime rib in the world at Lawry's The Prime Rib. Amazing service and tableside carving make this place a MUST see on a visit to Las Vegas. Traditional yorkshire pudding too! Join their VIP club for free and get amazing perks and freebies! Located just east of Bally's off of Flamingo, this place is easy to get to and worth every minute! Yum!

Both Deb and I enjoyed Jack in the Box in our younger days. However, there are no JITBs in Wisconsin... so, we always have to make a "jack in the crack" run while in sin city. No, it's not really a slice of heaven, but it is a must. As for what would truly be our slice of heaven it would have to be either Galaghers at NYNY or AJ's at Hard Rock. It doesn't get any better than a hunk of rare beef and a fine bottle of cabernet.

We have 4 cowboy saloons called RoadRunner Saloons and Cowboy Bars here that serve very good food for reasonable prices. There is one near Green Valley, one in Summerlin, one at Flamingo and the 215 and the one near me in the northwest at centennial Center. They are away from the strip so will require a taxi or rental car. Check them out at http://www.roadrunnerlasvegas.com/home.html

Toto's on Tropicana east of the strip, a couple blocks past Maryland Pkwy. An excellent Mexican restaurant, try the Taquitos Del Mar.
Ellis Island, the $1.95 steak and eggs are excellent, but the entire menu is great as well, not to mention the fact that they brew their own beers.
In n Out Burger: Best. Fast Food. Ever.

Filet Mignon with Merlot butter at Mon Ami Gabi followed by flourless chocolate cake.
Also the Filet Mignon at the Cortez Room at the Gold Coast. Comes with etiher salad or soup and is lovely. Followed by white chocolate cheescake. A meal for 2 including 1/2 a carafe of wine, a beer and coffees was only $69.

Casa di Amore, old vegas style Italian restaurant. Small, casual, entertainment & 15 min off Strip. Transportation? no problem. This restaurant offers a complimentary RED LIMO that picks you up at your hotel & takes you back. Do tip driver both ways. Very unique experience, excellent authentic food average $18. A highlight of our June 07 trip. Enjoy!

Filet mignon and lobster at Steakhouse at Camelot and creme brulee for dessert. The other thing I have to do every trip is ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.
Where is the Jack in the Box? They closed the one by me years ago and I haven't seen one since.

Well, I've always loved the buffets, especially the old Manhattan Buffet at the Luxor.
And when I discovered Fong's I enjoyed that, partly because I love Chinese food and partly because it's the oldest in town.
But the thing that blew me away was the chicken sandwich I had at the Carson Street Café at the Golden Nugget a couple of years ago. It was smothered in gravy, had a pile of mashed potato (my favourite thing in the world) and it may even have had some cranberry sauce on there. Oh my God! I ate the whole thing, though my belt was ready to fly off.
I'll be back for my honeymoon in December - God I hope they still do that chicken sandwich!

speaking of closures, they recently closed my favorite too. It was simple, but good. The Auntie Anne's pretzel store inside Sam's Town was closed a few months ago, and I haven't found that perfect late night snack or meal to replace it yet. The hot cinnamon pretzels were to die for! I know they still have some Auntie Anne's on the strip, but I don't get there as often as I used to. Thanks for all of your great suggestions. I've read at least 6 I know I will definitely try. Great food after a long day of work is what I look forward to.
Jack in the Box is kind of old news for me. I used to work near the intersection of Rainbow and Flamingo and I ate there all the time. But, their new sirloin and egg breakfast burrito sounds like it's worth a try. Other JITB locations I'm aware of are Flamingo and Sandhill, and Sahara and Decatur. I know there are many more. Just go online and search for Jack in the Box. I don't recall seeing any on the strip though.
Happy eating to all!
I agree, my favorite hamburger joint is also In-n-out!

Oh Lord yes. The first time I ever had a Fatburger (we don't have these in the UK) was about 2 am at the Sunset Station about 5 years ago. You know when you're starving and you find something that's just what you wanted?
That's how it was...
Yum!

yes, definitely go online, and know the zip code where you are staying. There are 41 locations in Vegas!
As for Fatburger--I only ate there once, and it was only OK. Guess I need to check it out again, at a different location!

Right now my favorite is Pizza. Uncle Angelos at Jerry's Nugget in North LasVegas has the best pizza that I have tried in Vegas. They use whole milk mozzarella cheese. The best. I use the LVA coupon and you get two pizzas for less than $10.00. The service there has been great. Try their stromboli or calzones. Excellent. Afterwards, go to the Coffee shop for the best desserts in Vegas. They have an excellent bakery!!

That's so easy, the All American Bar & Grill at the Rio has a FANTASTIC crab leg cocktail that I have almost every day that I'm in Vegas and fantasize about when I'm home. Actually, the AABG has quite a few things that are "must haves" when I'm out there, including the best, juiciest, meatiest chicken wings I think I've ever had. Any of their steaks are to die for, as well, and I recently had a Steak Caeser's Salad that was out of this world!
Good Topic!

Tried Fat Burger on the Strip and go back to one every time we're in Vegas. :D
Buffets at Wynn, Bellagio and Paris are excellent. :)
The Carnival World Buffet for breakfast was terrible. Food was cold, and when manager was told that it was not up to par, he said he was sorry I had that opinion of their restaurant. :(

A couple of Krispy Kreme donuts still warm from the friary at Excalibur always hits the spot about 1-1:30 in the morning.
One of the best pieces of prime rib I've ever had was at Hugo's Cellar at The Four Queens.
At the Eiffel Tower restaurant, they served me an appetizer of crab meat wrapped in a cup made of cucumber slices. Don't remember what they called it, but it was outstanding.
Lobster bisque at Delmonicos.

I never miss a trip to J.T'S Steakhouse at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Eileen and I always went to The Brown Derby brunch at MGM years ago untill it shut down.
The Sterling Brunch at Bally's is something we try to fit in but it's been a while since we were there.

Commander's Palace (the late, lamented), but now I'll say the Bellagio Cafe for breakfast and Bellagio buffet for dinner with Onda a close runner-up. Upcoming trip (T-17) we're going to try David Burke and Delmonico, also Burger Bar and Chocolate Swan, so the list may expand. Yum-o!

Breakfast at Sao Paulo/Rio and Paris Buffet. Breakfast at House of Blues/Mandalay Bay ain't bad, either.

Lump Crab appetizer at the Range/Harrahs and Steakhouse46/Flamingo.
Onion Soup at Antonio's/Rio.

Picasso at Bellagio. I ate the best meal I've had in my life there (and I'm a food writer who used to live in Paris, so there's competition for this particular accolade). The dining room also happens to be one of the most romantic places I've ever eaten. The staff are faultless, the art is exceptional - there's really nothing bad I can say about the place at all.

My slice of heaven used to be the steak @ the Westward Ho. In my opnion, it was grilled to perfection, & there was no need for steak sauce. You got; soup or salad, vegetables, choice of baked potato, mashed potatoes or rice and garlic bread, & a 16 oz t-bone steak, all for $9.99. It was AWESOME. Also, let us not forget, the ice cream social (also at Westward Ho).

The first 3 bites of a deep fried Twinkie at Mermaids. After that, the charm goes downhill, fast.
For a late-night snack, saimin at the Cal's cafe.
But for a meal, I'll take the Bellagio's buffet.
I guess I'm lucky to have 2 In and Out Burgers in my area, 2 Fatburgers, 2 Jack in the Box and a bunch more other franchises, all within a few miles.

There's not a Vegas trip that goes by that I don't stop at Makino (the one on Decatur) at least once. All you can eat sushi, which is surprisingly good and I know sushi, and other asian/Japanese treats. $15.95.
I had a two hour layover about 6 months ago in Vegas. Jumped a cab, hit Makino's and barely made my flight back. I sat in my seat flying home with a smile, content and in a rice coma.
Cheers!

My little slice of heaven is Palio's in Bellagio.:)
Beautiful and delicious pastries, pies, and desserts. You can get breakfast and lunch type items also, along with a mixture of different coffees. This is one of my favorite places to go for a snack or quick meal. Each baked gourmet pastry is a work of art! You almost don't want to eat them, but when you do....mmmmm! :D

Our slice of heaven is Emeril's New Orleans Fish House. We make it a point to go either for lunch or dinner every time. We also enjoy Pink Taco and Margaritaville.
Has anyone tried Hash House a Go Go? I just met the owner - Andy -he is from a small town about 15 minutes from me and of course he highly recommends his place. I'd love to hear if anyone in this forum has been there and what do they think of it? I'm all about trying something from a hometown guy! We don't get much recognition here in Northern Indiana!

Just visited Hash House A Go Go last week for the first time. HUGE portions of wonderful food! Hubby had a Hash House Benedict and I had a hamburger- one pounder- with blue cheese, with a side dish of the very best mac-n-cheese I have ever had! Of course, we ate less than half of the food and will know better next time- and there will be a next time! One thing that impressed me was the presentation of the food, very artful!
Another slice, was a dessert from Grand Luxe, several years ago, Not sure if they still have it. If I remember right it was an angelfood cake with strawberries and a lemon sauce over the top. It was huge. We took a photo of it, it was so impressive. My hubby thought it rated as one of the best desserts ever.

My husband and I love the Sunday Brunch @ Miralago, Lake Las Vegas. We plan our trips around it. We aren't visiting when we go to Vegas at the end of the month and I can honestly say it saddens me :(
We were introduced to Hash House A-Go-Go during our last trip to LV. LOTS of food. Our "meal-mates" ordered one pancake. Something with walnuts in it. The pancake is the size of a large serving plate:eek: Enough to share with many! It had a wonderful flavor.
