In Steve's newsletter #537 he notes that Harrahs requires you to have a room key or Harrahs Player Card in order to park there.

This is true. I have seen the security guard turn people around and make them leave because they could not produce a card or key. However, if you do not have a card and plan to stay at Harrahs, bring your room confirmation letter and you can park there. Somtimes during the slow times before 4:00 there is no guard there and anyone can get in.

Eventhough their garage is for members only, it is usually pretty full.

I have sent numerous members complaints about the parking situation to the Public Relations people at Harrah's and as it has been for quite some time, it doesn't seem to matter that much to them. How can a casino turn away customers just because they don't have a Harrah's Reward Card?

Harrah's continually amazes me.

Now I hear they might only allow a certain number of parking spaces for Gold Card members!

It seems to me this is all part of the bigger problem of the big casino chains buying up all the casinos they can find. It bothers me what Vegas will be like when three or four companies own all the casinos. Then they will do whatever they want to. Harrahs seems to already be many changes none of which benefit the players. Where will it stop? Competition helped keep them in check and they are rapidly buying up all the competition.

When we were out in September we noticed that the area adjacent to the garage has a sign on the entrance, "Harrahs Parking". It was mostly being used by construction vehicles. Has anyone heard if this is going to be a new parking area for overflow?

You're right, Steve. Harrahs does do some strange stuff sometimes, but we still like 'em.

I still like the place too, it's too bad they have made it impossible for us to stay there anymore.

Well said :)
If you think Customer Service and Relations is at it's lowest right now, just wait until all the merges are in full force.

I was of the impression that valet parking was "complementary" at all hotels. Is that not the case? I know that you'll have to wait for your car to be brought around and need to provide a gratuity (is $2 enough?), but that seems minimal for the service. Please advise, as I am heading to vegas in 10 days and will be renting a car for the first time... Just assumed that I could valet everywhere I went for the price of the gratuity.....

I can't speak for Harrah's but any place stands a chance of having valet parking be filled up. If its a busy time in Vegas, and there is a major event at the site, and you arriving at prime dinner time, you might find signs that say "Valet Full"

I have heard the offering a tip at the start in those situations ($10? $20?) will get you in when its full.

That said, I have never run into the problem. I've stayed at IP when valet got full - but I knew it would be, and came in early enough to snag a valet spot.

My son is a Valet in Vegas and we always rent a car and have used valet parking quite often. Yes it is complimentary every place on the strip we have stopped at and it is the custom to tip the valet, and I will leave the amount of tip up to you

Valet parking is free everywhere in LV, but when they do fill up, they will turn you away unless you are staying there.

Once at Golden Nugget we tried to use valet and they said it was full except for those staying there, but when we said we were going to see Gordie Brown, they let us in anyway.

The Rio gives priority service if you have a Diamond Card.

We tip $2.

This parking thing has always been in force, or did it start after the opening of the monorail?

When visiting the mid-strip for the night, we park at Caesars Palace or the Mirage, across the street from Harrahs. Their parking decks are huge, and we visit the surrounding casinos anyway. You have the light to walk across the street, and for us, we don't stay too long at Harrahs anyway. We're used to a lot of walking when we are in Vegas. (Wear comfortable shoes.) Drive to where we want to go, but then walk up and down the strip from there.

The Harrahs/RIO employees and dining have always been great, but for us the gambling there, on a low roller level, has been very frustrating. In fact, we were demoted from Platinum to Gold. ......and now, even the parking situation there makes you feel second class. We can't all be Diamond Card level.

There are other places that make us feel more welcomed, and show it,... and we greatly appreciate it!

Is the parent company trying to get rid of the $2.00 better? This used to be a very progressive company but most of the decisions they have made in the past few years leave me wondering. Our last trip (Sept.) was the first time we have not at least stopped for a while at either the Rio or HArrah's.
We love Las Vegas but I am starting to worry that the big conglomerates don't wan't my business. We are not rich or high rollers but we visit 2-3 times a year and drop from $3,000.00 to $4,000.00 each visit. Last couple of years we have been lucky enough to return to NH ahead of the game but we do budget that amount for each trip.
Las Vegas is so ahead of any other location in the USA that attracts gamblers but you can squeeze us out.
Please return to the customer friendly days and let us park.

The big casinos companies are in the process of many changes most of which will improve their bottom line, but we should never never forget we decide what they will do in the end. That is if we vote with our feet. If they make changes you don't like go to a casino where they do things the way you like. If enough people go somewhere else they will change.

We haven't played on the strip in about 2 years because of all the changes (which always benefit the Corporate bottom line and never the player's) & cutbacks on personnel . We used to feel that we were treated very well at Harrah's but now we are wary of playing there.

Well said, all. We may have to go back downtown where there is somewhat more competition....

We voted with our feet! We agree!

We were to Vegas in October and this is the first time we DID NOT STOP in THE RIO (which was one of our favorites) or Harrahs. We were not having fun there for a couple years, and several trips.

It's not fun when your couple or few hundred $$$ gets you no play time, not
alone winnings. We DID HAVE fun at the Orleans, Monte Carlo, Suncoast.
We felt more welcomed there with being able to play for hours, and had a lot of fun. :)

We're low rollers, playing quarters and some dollars. We still get offers from Harrahs , Showboat AC for free rooms and drawings, and free buffets for every Tuesday in November???(We're 2 hours from Atlantic City...we can't just drive down for free buffets in the middle of the week. We even notice the difference in the slots at the Caesars properties in AC since Harrahs took over. In fact, my hubby doesn't want to go to AC anymore. We can't win there. He suggests we only go to Vegas twice a year, to the casinos that we have been having fun, a lot more playtime and even some winnings.

Harrahs, you are not the only casinos in town!

Harrahs, you are not the only casinos in town!

We live a little closer to AC than you do (30 minutes) and have felt that way for years. We LOVED AC until our first visit to Las Vegas in 1980. We gradually stopped going to AC, saved up the money we'd lose ever weekend, and started going to Las Vegas twice a year.

I too am sorry to see the large conglomerates taking over. I enjoy sitting near an open door in the small casinos and as much as I hate the smell of smoke, when you walk into a place like the Frontier and that stale, musty odor smacks you in the face, you have to say, "Ah, that's what a casino is supposed to smell like!"
