Does anyone have a recommendation on staying at the Orleans Hotel/Casino?
If staying there and renting a standard room, what should one ask for in terms of location within the hotel?
Any recommendations on eating places within the hotel?
thanks,
Luke

We have stayed our last 3 visits and are going back again. Usually we ask for the non-smoking floor (10th) and also ask for the pool view rooms. We just find that section nice and quiet. No sirens going off. As far as places to eat, there is something for everyone's taste. Don Miguel's is good, the buffet is decent for the money, Excellent chinese food, hell even the hot dogs at the sportsbook are pretty good. There are a lot of choices. If you book under the Mardi Gras package on their website, you get a couple of breakfast buffets and a couple of dinner buffets inclusive with your room rate. They also have a pretty good funbook which you will get at check-in. All in all this property(if you have a vehicle) is one of the best bargains available. Other than the location ( which we like because of quietness) it scores a huge 10 in our book.

We love this hotel resort! The spa is pretty good, very helpful staff! And to dine, try Canal Street steakhouse. Very good food for not breaking your wallet too bad.
Also, the Italian place is quite good. We like their pizza. The also have a dine in only (no carry out allowed) grill in the casino with burgers and the such. And a sushi place we have never been too.
I like the 1st tower the best, pool view too. I noticed if we booked a night through Orbitz or Travelocity we got a very lousy view...a wall like 10 feet away or the rooftop airconditioners and delivery truck views.
You get a coupon value book at check in and it's great for 20% off the italian restaurant, Buy 1 get 1 Free deals, free dessert at the Canal Street place, free margarita at the mexican place. Their guacamole and chips and dip are wonderful!
We have stayed there numerous of times and for the value, it is not bad! You will have to drive to get elsewhere around the strip or take a free shuttle to one of their sister casinos.
Good Luck!

I have stayed at the Orleans 4 times. Love it - I always get a pool view up high - nice and quiet with no road noise. I get my best nights' sleep at the Orleans. You can also get some Orleans coupons on the American Casino Guide. Also, I have never had to wait for a room at check-in--even on a Sunday morning at 9:00 AM they have one for me. :)

I'll go along with the group on the pool view room -- it is nice. other views can be of mixed features -- mountains AND the back parking lot. all of the rooms are about the same no matter which tower and age. we do LoVE the little window in the shower that opens. it lets in some fresh air and outside sounds (good and bad) and light into an area that is usually the darkest part of your room.
restaurants are good. Don Miguels is pretty authentic Mexican which can be a shock to those who are used to Taco Bell. the buffet is really quite good-- Iw ould rate it as second tier (Bellagio, Paris, Aladdin, Rio being top tier) . The Prime Rib Loft is quite a nice steak house for it's size and expense.
the trick to getting the best deal on a room is to first check their website - especially "internet specials". then check around for the best deal that you can find (Travelaxe checks a number of sites) for the absolute best deal. then call Orleans for a reservation. tell them about the price that you found. they will check it out and if its legit the will match it and then deduct an extra 5% at check out. (I got $20 anight that way in June)

The Orleans is usually my hotel of choice, even when I'm on business. I"ve stayed there 6 or 7 times. I think it is the best hotel value in Las Vegas. It is highly desirable to have a car, though, due to the location. I keep comparing it with Strip hotels without a car - but by the time you factor in the higher hotel room rates, the airport taxi fees, monorail fees, and the occaisional taxi ride from your strip hotel to another, the Orleans plus a car is equal or better value. The rooms are that much cheaper.
I always ask for a room up high, as it seems to be quieter and easier to get an elevator. I've not had a bad one, regardless of which way it points. We had a strip view room once, and the view was great. The pool view is fine, too. However, I don't go to Vegas to sit in my hotel room, if you know what I mean. Check in/out has always been very efficient. The rooms are really big and nice.
As to food, the Prime Rib Loft is quite good, if you're into Prime Rib. The biggest cut is too much to eat, really, so save the money and do the second biggest. The Prime Rib Loft is very reasonably priced. I had the Chinese once, and the dish I had was fine. The buffet is good (not great like Rio or Mandalay Bay), but about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of those great ones. Terrible Mikes is average - you'd do better at In-n-Out Burger down Tropicana toward the strip.
Another thing I like about the Orleans is that the gambling is not so expensive. You can always find $5 tables and often $3 ones for blackjack and craps. Compare that with $10 minimums and up on the strip. The dealers there all seem very friendly. The Sports Book has better odds than many of the other resorts, and $5 minimums.
I tend to park outside in the non-garage parking on the SW side of the property. This is the lot near the corner of Tropicana and Arville. Enter off Tropicana at the big Orleans sign and exit right on Arville to get back to Tropicana. It is really quick and easy to get in and out of there.
Feel free to email me if you have other questions.

:) Very excited to see all the great replys on The Orleans! I'm booked there in Dec. and can't wait to get there! Especially excited now since I live about 3 hours New Orleans and it doesn't look like I will be going back down there any time soon. Hope it gives me a feel of being back in New Orleans.

We go to vegas 2 or 3 times a year and always stay at the Orleans. We have done this for the past 4 years. I used to stay at the Rio, until it seemed to get less player friendly. You can not beat the food, prices and the help.....everything is outstanding.

I agree.. The Prime Rib Loft has excellent prime rib......Very good food. Also The Orleans usually has pretty good entertainment. We saw Tony Danza their and Neil Sadaka.
I've stayed at 20+ hotels in Las Vegas and think that the Orleans is the best bargain in town. Very large and nicely furnished rooms (although a little on the frilly side) that are quieter than most. Excellent restaurants with reasonable prices, better than average video poker selection, and cocktail waitresses have the skimpiest costumes in Las Vegas. Try to get a room high up facing the Strip and you’ll have one of the best views in town. Has an 18 screen movie complex, a 70 lane bowling center, and an indoor arena which the local minor league hockey team calls home and which usually has some event going. The showroom features acts primarily from the 50s and 60s, with Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Debbie Reynolds, Neil Sedaka, and other such oldies-but-goodies each appearing a few times a year. Free shuttle buses run between the Orleans and the Barbary Coast for those who want to go to the Strip without having to drive. Very good mail offers after you've stayed there, even with low levels of play.

Also you might want to check out their midnite specials. Haven't been there for awhile, but they use to have breakfast specials very cheap, and the food was good.

The Orleans Is A Great Hotel. Have Stayed There Twice And Are Booked There Again For October. Sign Up For A Players Card There And Everywhere You Play. You May Get Your Room Or Food Comped Or A Discounted Casino Rate For Your Hotel Room.
Nice Size Room, Pretty, And Great Security, Where Everyone Has To Show Their Room Key To The Security Guard To Get On The Elevators To The Hotel Rooms. We Were In The New Tower. WE RENT A CAR SO THE LOCATION OFF THE STRIP IS NO PROBLEM FOR US. THERE IS ALSO A FREE SHUTTLE TO THE SISTER COAST CASINO PROPERTIES.
We Have Eaten At The Cafe For Breakfast. The Buffet Has A Large Assortment And Was Very Clean When We Were There Last October. You Get A Coupon For 2 For 1 Buffets In The Fun Book You Get When You Check In. There Is Even A Coupon For A Free Bottle Of Wine With Your Buffet.
Saw Great Shows There, Neil Sedaka, Righteous Brothers, And Last October, Englebert Humperdink, (which I Am Not A Fan, But Was Entertaining) And There Was A 2 For The Price Of One Coupon In The Funbook.
Staff Is Very Friendly And Helpful. The Only Negative I Can Say About The Orleans Is The Casino Is Smokey. Our Clothes Smell Like Smoke After Walking Around Or Through The Casino. However, We're Nonsmokers, So It May Bother Us More. But We Had A Smoke-free Room And The Hotel Was Fine.
Enjoy Your Stay.

Not sure where that comment comes from. We found the Orleans to be one of the best overall values in Vegas. Not the best but always good.
The free shuttle to the strip and to the Gold Coast is a real plus. The Gold coast is accross the street from the Rio and the Palms so you can get around very easily. IF you have a car, the Orleans is very easy to get into and out of with a short hop to the I-15.
On Friday and Saturday nights the casino is a little smoky but not bad other times.
The Buffet is a very good value and if you get the American Casino Guide, you can get 2 for 1's at Orleans and Gold Coast.

I have to agree with the rest of the posts. I love this hotel. Where else can you check in at 8:30 am and not have the desk have a fit. All staff are very friendly, and coupon book is great.
I smoke and our room was on the 19th floor, facing the pool. Going back in November, going to ask for the same floor and view.
Getting around was no trouble. Took shuttle and one day caught bus up Trop to strip and back. If you want to go to Rio or Psalms just take the shuttle to sister property Gold coast and walk across the street. Can't be beat to escape the ongoing activity of strip. Best nights sleep ever.
Enjoy

We stayed at Orleans in July. Very nice rooms, check-in was fast, and food was good.
Only down side was the cafe. Food was not very good, service was really bad. I think they had a very low employee rate for amount of people.

It's so good to hear all the praise you guys and gals are heaping upon the Orleans. :) Especially since my Wife and I will be flying out there in two days. You great posters have paved the way to making all the right choices on room location, dining, gambling and so much more. :D
One question I do have is this. All the mentions of,"if you have a car" and "great free shuttle service", leave me wondering how hard it is to get a taxi around the Orleans?
We stayed at the Rio last year, which we all know is off the strip, there were taxi cabs at all hours of the day and night waiting to whisk you away to the strip.
Any thoughts on the subject of Taxi cabs would be appreciated!!
