After viewing their website, we are very anxious to finally dine at Andre's (the original one). I am also reading very good things about the California’s, Redwood Bar and Grille and the Great Moments Room at the Vegas Club. We perceive them to be old school, refined establishments with excellent service, ambiance and food at less than outrageous prices. Can anyone comment on any of these? Thank you for any tips. :)

IMHO Redwood grille along with Pasta Pirate at the cal are GREAT value play and while not fancy offer solid options.

Thank you for the tips jrinct1! I think we would enjoy them both and will have a chance to do at least one of these. Does anybody have any comment about Andre's downtown? This is going to be our big night out and feel most confident about this lovely place but we would love to get any inside tips. Thanks.

With regards to the Great Moments at the Vegas Club, check the information you found on this place. If it's the restaurant on the first floor (beside the counter service), it was all closed up when we were there in March. I looked on the website and they are still advertising this restaurant, so I'm not sure why it was closed when we were there.

I am a "SIMPLETON" when dining.........Good solid food doent have to be fancy in preparation is my choice. That said French food and japanse sushi or sashimi seems too................ok i i will say it, exotic for my taste. Although i have had squab, mussells, rabbit and hen , etc.......as dinners.
so take my rec's as you will.

You might also want to check out Limerick's Steakhouse at Fitzgerald's. I had a wonderful dinner there with Larry G. Jones. Very cozy and very romantic.

Our last visit we ate at the great moments room and the center stage in the plaza. this was the first time i took my wife to the great moments room (she had heard a lot about it when i went with my dad two years prior). she was looking forward to it, and she was really excited when we were able to ask for bernardo as our waiter. bernardo has an awesome accent, very hard to place. he also has a silver streak going down his hair, a very distinct waiter, to say the least. the food was awesome, and julie loved the place (dark, rich colors, a very different atmosphere once you walk in from the casino). it is my personal favorite for sentimental reasons.
it was the first time for either of us at the center stage. the room is a lot different than the great moments (very lit and glittery) and of course you have the view of the fremont street experience. the food at both of these restaurants was very good. the center stage is a little more affordable, but if you are on a budget the smartest thing to do is go online and look at the menu and pick between the appetizers and salads and possibly formulate a meal that way, maybe mix in an entree for you both.
roberta's at the el cortez is nice, and you can find two for one coupons if you look around. i have heard great things about the binions steakhouse and also the fine dining options at fitzgeralds and four queens. another favorite (not as ritzy) of ours is the triple 7 brewpub at main street station. the beers and margaritas are great and the food selection is awesome. i always get some sushi there to mix in with some other fare. of course, there is also many discount food options downtown. the fact it is all within walking distance, you cant really go wrong. enjoy.

Thank you all for the input!

Jrinct1,
We spent our first anniversary taking turns throwing up awaiting my orders. Obviously, all worked out fine. When she asked to dine at a French restaurant some 7 years ago, I owed her more than I can ever repay for those early anniversaries then and also those following with the babies wrapped around her legs. I just told her, don’t ask me to eat anything that I wouldn’t swim with. I wouldn’t swallow any of the crap you mentioned either. However, these are the USA French restaurants, not the ones in Europe. Have you ever held a shrimp/scallop/lobster appetizer in your mouth which was simply too delicious to swallow? It is utterly amazing how the French cuisine can blend wine pairings with petite courses into a symphony of taste unlike anything you have tasted before. The fish course is flounder, snapper or grouper, not sea monster. If you like beef, lamb or venison prepared in a way which is simply heavenly, you will fully ENDULGE yourself unlike anything you have enjoyed before. Please give it a go with a good friend and simply relax for a few hours with what is also mostly unprecedented service.
Sincerely,
Pot Roast

Thank you Steve! We need to consider Limericks as well!

MOUNTAINDAVE,
I think we just have to include the Moments Room for one night. I just keep reading great things about this one!

We love to take in pleasurable dinners while in Vegas. We just are not into the new Hip and Sleek stuff out on the Strip with ridiculous prices while listening to BLASTING Hip Hop crap at a table 4” from the next one. I love my wife and enjoy her company over dinner. Besides, how would I know what I am eating if I could not hear her tell me. :D
