Brought 77 year old father (I'm 41). He's a free spirit who can't be told what to do!
Friday and Saturday at Flamingo were comped up front. Bally's comped Sunday up front, and I had to pay $64 for Monday (split dad). We used comp points and coupons for every meal.
Total Room cost each $32
Total Food cost each $24
Played heavily and lost about $300 overall
Flamingo highlights:
- On Tabasco I hit over 1000 nickels on the chef bonus round, as they made me the tasty crab/prawn combo platter. Oddly enough the machine froze up, requiring a jackpot handpay. Three employees showed up to handpay me $51. Even they were confused as to why a handpay was required. Whats funny is on my last trip out there I had a hit for 4000 nickels and simply cashed out the $200 slip.
- Dad and I played 7/5 JOB (the horror!), and DW. Combined we hit 3 4ok's (125 quarters each) and 3 DWRF's (125). But that wasn't good enough to keep us alive as $80 was lost overall to VP and Wheel of Fortune slots.. A lady next to me hit the 4 Deuces, but only had 1 quarter in (cost her $200).
- Dad went to get his medicine, was gone for 30 minutes and returned to inform me he had lost his key and couldn't get in. I gave him my key (big mistake-should have told him to go to front desk), as I lost him for an hour. While playing a man next to me kept inquiring on how to play certain hands. He was nice at first, but became increasingly annoying as he questioned everything I said. eg. "Why would I hold 2 Kings when I only need one card for a flush?". I came close to shouting: "because I F$***ing said so!". I finally moved when another machine opened up.
Ballys highlights:
- First nite I sat at a bar and played VP for over 2 hours, winning $30. On Bonus Poker I hit 2 4ok's ($50 each) and one 4ok (dealt kings) which paid 125 credits. I should have cashed out when I was up $80, but was enjoying the anti-Democratic banter from a woman from northern Miss. She loved my Republican views and at one point grabbed my arm and said I was welcome to move to her state anytime. I drank 6 or 7 Coronas- no idea how many. The bartender, Wayne, just kept putting fresh ones in front of me. When I was done I almost fell on my face when I left the bar! Stumbled upstairs and passed out watching Family Guy.
- The first nite at Ballys was Sunday. Dad left me at 4:15 pm to go to church (5 pm mass) and didn't return until 12:30. Woke me up when he came in. Have no clue where he was. Said he walked the strip.
- On Monday morning I got up at 6 AM at Ballys and played the same VP machine and had some good hits, including 4 Aces ($100).
- The next nite (Monday) I went to the same bar, sat in the same seat, and Wayne put a Corona in front of me without me even looking at him. Great service. I then proceeded to hit a Straight Flush (250 credits), a DWRF (125) and 4 Aces ($100). I made $140 on the session, drank 2 Coronas and moved on to the Aladdin for a show (Fashionistas-on half price ticket, was awesome).
- Played a Haywire machine for 30 minutes, breaking even, but never getting anything better than 30 credits. The Haywires were often, but only on small hits of 6 (once spun 5x to pay 30). This slot gave me most play for my money at Ballys, which is pretty sad.
- Used points for me and Dad to eat at the Paris buffet (linked to Ballys). Best breakfast I've ever had in Vegas. 3 types of breakfast sausage!
Misc:
- Played 90 minutes of BJ at the Tropicana, one of the few places with $5 BJ tables. At first had table to myself, then it filled up. Everyone got wiped out but me, and in 45 minutes I again had table to myself and was down about $20. I went up and down, and cashed out +$1.50. Hit 5 or 6 BJ's. I lost everytime I upped my bet to $20.
- Played BJ for an hour at Texas Station, winning $30, but didn't hit a single BJ. Guy to my left lost $150 in the same amount of time.
- Played an hour of Bingo ($30) at Texas Station, and twice came within 1 number of winning ($100, and $500). Had no clue what was going on, but was using the electronic bingo and watching the Little League World Series on the same monitor. (pretty neat - can flip through all your cards while watching split screen cable TV!). Beers were also free.
- At the Trop found some old style DW machines, paid in quarters only. On my second $20 I held 2 Deuces and got the other 2! A nifty 250!
- Also at the Trop they have this wacky ceiling show where scantily clad women swing over your head while your playing slots. Only lasts 10 minutes but was actually pretty cool to watch.
- First slot machine I played at Texas Station after leaving dad in the buffet (he was there for over an hour) I hit a quick 180 credits. Didn't hit a thing there the rest of the day, losing $100.
- Walked into the IP early Friday evening and the place was going crazy. Loud BJ tables, waitresses scurrying around, the Blues Brothers belting out tunes from a center stage. Never recall seeing a place as wacky as that moment.
- Played for over 2 hours on a $20 bill at Terribles during 5X points day (Sunday). I earned 6500 points, the equivalent of 13 breakfast buffets. I never had more than $50 in credits so I didn't cash out. I must have hit 10 full houses and a bunch of flushes. I only hit one 4ok in Jacks, but hid 4 4ok's in Joker Poker. Everytime I got down under $10 I would hit a 4ok. So future buffets are on me!
Bye for now - heading back to the strip Oct 9!
