Has anyone ever booked a room and then had the hotel sold. Do they stand by the confirmation given before it was sold? I would also like to know if anyone has ever booked a room and then had the hotel demolished before you got to stay there? We are going to Vegas in April and have hotel reservations and confimation for Imperial Palace. I have seen where it was sold to Harrah's and also read it might be demolished.

I am not one to condone a double booking, but in this case, I would do so just to protect myself.

If it is (which I doubt by April), I'm sure Harrah's will find you somewhere nice to stay in one of their other properties! The will not want to lose your money!!!!!

I wouldn't worry your reservations will be good. The deal with Harrah's is not final as of yet. Harrah's plans on running the IP for a year or so before making any big changes.

As a rule you should be okay. The new owners in this case their neighbors Harras will honor your reservation. But to be sure you need to call the IP and make sure.

I'm in the same situation as you are. My stay at the Imperial Palace is scheduled for January 1, 2006 thru January 14, 2006. According to my Executive Host, Ms. Denise Gemma. I hope that I have a place to stay. I'd hate to be stranded in Las Vegas. :o

There have been rumors running around for years that the Imperial Palace might be demolished. I just cannot believe with all of the remodeling that has gone on there over then passed several years, that they would chose to do that. It's also been going around for years that it's going to be imploded, I'm going to be staying there in a couple of weeks, I'll see what I can find out.

Why would you book so far in advance? I don't know what you paid, but I'm sure if you waited until your trip was a few months away you could get a fantastic rate. IMO it's a little early to be booking a trip for April now.

If the hotel is oversold and you are already confirmed, they are suppose to find another hotel room for you at another strip hotel and sometimes they will compensate you in some way too. It does happen occasionally. There is a lot of advance planning that must be done prior to demolishing a hotel. If you have confirmed reservations, I am sure you have nothing to worry about. To ready a hotel for demolition, I am sure they will have some date they will no longer accept reservations. Have fun on your trip and Good Luck

I dont know about vegas but this happen to me in Atlantic city at a Harrah's property. The hotel manger came out and said that they would give me 50 in cash, free parking,4 free buffets and accomodations at the Sheraton. I would trust Harrah's to do the right thing.

Can't say they ever blew up a building before we got there but we have insured against other factors by making two reservations, cancelling one the last minute. Might be worth it to go this route. Barb

Hi,
I had a different, but similar experience way back in the late '70's. Had rooms booked at the old, old, Aladin. Found out on the airplane, enroute (no such thing as a cellphone, but the lady next to me had a newpaper), that the State of Nevada had closed them down for liscensure problems.
Anyway, worried all the way there. However, they had made arraingments with nearby casinos to handle the guests, and when we got there it was a very orderly transfer (in my case accross the street to the Dunes). I do have to admit, I will never forget the sight of a casino with yellow tape over every slot and table game hole that accepted cash. :(
As often as Harrahs and other mega casino's have been purchasing, I'm sure they will accomidate booked guests. To make sure, I would call their corporate office NOW and confirm this. Get the name, rank and seriel number of the person who you talked to. :)
And most of all, when you get in, HAVE FUN!
Don :)

Most major properties will honor the reservation. When a property is sold it pretty much just changes hands. If they were thinking of tearing it down it takes a lot of planning and is not done overnight. Not to mention it would be announced way in advance.

You certainly don't have to worry about demolition. There will be plenty of notice and no reservations made when that takes place. Hotels do occasionally oversell and what happens then is that they book you into another hotel. Imperial Palace isn't fancy, but it's a great casino and you'll have a good time.

I can't imagine that the new owner would not honor reservations made prior to the change in ownership. Many Las Vegas properties have changed ownership over the years and I'm sure the new owners honored existing reservations. If Imperial Palace is torn down before April, that is a different story and the new owners will probably accomodate you in one of their other properties. Anyway, Las Vegas has so many thousands of guest rooms that it is very unlikely that you won't find an alternative place to stay. April isn't peak season, so there should be an adequate number of rooms available. Even during peak season, there are rooms available, but the prices skyrocket.

I don;t think you have anything to worry about. If the situation there changes, Harrah's has other properties in town and they will undoubtedly place you in a room elsewhere.

I too have a reservation for the IP in December.
I have a confirmation so I am assuming that I will have
no problem. Bob Cohen booked the room for me.
I will be bringing a copy of this confirmation with me in Dec.
From what I have heard it takes quite some time before
they would, if they do, demolish.
I will be curious to see what is found out when the person
who is going soon gets back though.
