Reported by CBS Channel 8 in Las Vegas on 3/13/07:

Las Vegas is getting a new diva in town -- The Divine Miss M.

Eyewitness News has learned that Bette Midler has signed a contract with Caesars to take on the headlining act at the Colosseum theater.

Celine Dion is scheduled to end her reign at Caesars by the end of the year.

There is no word on when Midler will officially start her shows.

**I personally would have rather seen Cher get the contract...but I'll go see Bette!**

My sentiments exactly.

I thought I read somehwhere that Cher had gotten a contract to perform there. She puts on an awesome show. Never saw Bette, she can sing too I guess, but would much rather see Cher again.

If I recall correctly what I read a while back, Cher will be starting there first with Bette following several months later. Bette will perform when Cher is off.

I think that is great news! I would rather see Bette than Cher( although I like Cher..don't think I would pay top dollar to see her) but Bette..in a minute!!

I also read somewhere that Cher would be opening. Does anyone know if she's even part of the mix. We've seen her and she is huge, outstanding show. Where did they come up with Bette Midler? She hasn't been around in forever. Does anyone under 50 even know who she is or what she's done.

Bette Midler has release three new recordings in the past three years. They're all excellent. Two of them were produced by her long-ago accompanist, Barry Manilow, who also sings a duet with her on each one.

She's very much around.

I've seen both Bette (3 concerts) and Cher (1 concert). They both put on awesome shows... so much more than just singing. Cher's show was a huge production... however she did absolutely no live singing... it was all lipsync. Bette on the other hand sang everything live... she always does. She also does comedy and her famous character Delores DeLago, the toast of Chicago. Both of them are totally hot 60 year olds. If given the chance, I'd see either, but if I had to choose one, Bette gets my vote!

That would be great to have the both of them sharing the "Palace"!
I haven't seen either of them in person...but I like both their styles.
If all of this contract stuff is true, I'm looking forward to some upscale entertainment the next year in Vegas.

During an interview and asked about getting older, Cher made one of my favorite quotes:
"I've been rich, I've been poor...rich is better. I've been fifty, I've been forty...forty is better."

I agree with you 'Souette', they'd be smart to get both under contract
and switch 'em off like CELINE and ELTON.
I'd also read CHER had the gig....rumors about BETE, but this is the first
I've heard she got it...COOL! in any event, I'd love to see 'em both.
If CHERILYN SARKISIAN LaPIERE gets the gig in 2008, she'll be 62 years old...

Gregario - where would we be without you?

Your knowledge is astounding.

report...LIVE! FROM THE COLOSSEUM IN LAS VAGAS...!
