I saw Phantom shortly after it opened and LOVED it! I want to take my daughter down to see it but that won't be for awhile. Anyone heard how it is doing? Selling out? Or should I hurry and plan a trip before it leaves.

I don't know if theres any reason to hurry at this point...
The Venetian is adjusting PHANOTM's Show scheduals...some
performances have been canceled due to low ticket sales.
You can call 'em anytime for the latest Show updates 1.877.583.6423

I've got tix for Mar. 1st. I'll post here as to the crowd. Seems to me that alot of people don't even know the show exists yet. Also, I think that the fact that most people think that it is an opera where people singing in funky languages might also be a deterant.
If the Venetian gives it time, I'm sure it will take off. I am looking fwd to seeing it on Mar. 1st

Well, I disagree. If folks don't know that PHANTOM exists in Vegas, they
not much interested in Las Vegas or whats going on there.
PHANTOM fans know this is 'Light Opera', in English...they know the songs,
the scenes, they sing along in the audience.
Sad problem is, the Venetian HAS given it time to catch on, not to mention all the money they've spent on promoting it. Boradway is just having a real hard time making it in Las Vegas...it's just not the right type of crowd.
I think PHANTOM will close....as will SPAMALOT and The PRODUCERS.

I was hoping crowds would be keeping it alive but I do know that musicals have a hard time in Vegas. I just thought that if Mamma Mia could last as long as it did that Phantom would have a chance. I may be making another trip down there this summer after all as I really want her to see it in that theater. It is hard to believe people don't know about it with the HUGE banners, mask lights dancing on the venetian walls and the music playing-i liked that when I walked by at night. Gregrio, could you let us know if you hear a closing date?
Thanks,
Colleen

I guess I was drawing on my own experience with checking out the happenings in Vegas via the web. I was there in May and saw nothing of it. I also check the web sites all the time and just heard about it last week.
How long has this show been in production? I for one think that if a broadway type musical is going to make it, Phantom would be it. I may be a little biased as I love the music and have not seen Mama Mia. ( I'd like to see it too )
Just an opinion! ;)

When will Vegas ever learn that Broadway means nothing in Vegas.
Nothing, except perhaps Mama Mia, has been successful.
It would appear that Vegas is having problems with getting shows in their showrooms. At least, those that pay.
Could it be that the prices of "superegocontriactics" (i.e. supposedly super stars) are out of control?
And, please, do not, but do not, mention Cirque de Soleil. They will run their gamit, and it will be too soon for me.
Oh, the good old days! Where one could go to a show and dinner, without breaking the bank.

Well, Vegas certainly has tried to make their version of Broadway work...
...I just don't think it's gonna make it.
ALL these musical are great...the ones that have closed were great and the
upcoming new ones will be fun too...I LOVE MUSICALS and see 'em quick cuz
I know they'll be gone soon.
MAMMA MIA has something special...can't really put a finger on it, but it works. I'm seeing it again for my 5th time April 8th along with The Producers.
I'll do SPAMALOT in a few weeks on March 13th.
'Turnip'...PHANTOM started last spring. I saw it July 21 '06 and 'T Rat'...Vegas
doesn't have a problem getting Shows in their Showrooms...they have problems getting people in their Showrooms. Steve Wynn has been jumping on every Tony Award Winning Show that catches his fancy...AVENUE Q, SPAMALOT. WE WILL ROCK YOU (which I love and saw many times) died,
Harrah's is trying The PRODUCERS...The attention span of the average tourists in Vegas isn't right for this type of entertainment.
That said.......when Mandalay Bay closes MAMMA MIA and if THEY would like to try another musical, I'd like 'em to try "JERSEY BOYS"...I think it might have a chance with the Las Vegas audiences.
We've got the easy part! We just get to see 'em and enjoy 'em while they
last. It's the folks who have to choose what Show might work for their property that have the hard jobs...I like this side of the maddness much better!

Show prices have shot up way too much. I remember not to long ago when I could afford to see two shows a night for under $50. I saw S & R at the Frontier for $35 and that was the highest priced show-being newly married, that was a BIG amount of money and I felt bad for splurging!
Gregio-I saw We Will Rock You and I agree-it was GREAT and so did all the others I encouraged to see the show. In my opinion, Phantom surpasses Mamma Mia-the theater and special effects really made it for me.
Turnip-Maybe I saw it everwhere because I knew it was coming? I had been waiting for it to come to Vegas for years-I would really hate for it to vanish so quickly. Like you said, of all the musicals shouldn't Phantom be the one to live on? I do know that die hard POTO fans are not happy that some of it was cut out to run in the 90 format that Vegas shows need to do to have a chance.

My first concern when looking at the tix was "Is This POTO?" Or is it something that isn't even close. The reason I went ahead and booked the tix was that they stated that "all the music was in it" Meaning that it wouldn't be a hit and miss production.
To me, Phanton of the Opera is something that totally stands out and apart from other broadway type shows. Not that I am an expert or anything close to it. ;)
I would love to see Mama Mia, however, I have already "blown my wad" for this trip in regards to shows.:D
