Just now getting around to posting a TR on our Dec. Trip.
We (husband and I) went to Vegas over Christmas for 7 days. This was our 3 rd anniversary, we were married in Vegas Dec. 22nd 2003. I will break this into sections and give a brief description, you can scroll to the parts that interest you!
FLIGHT-flew AA out of Indy with a layover in St. Louis going and Chicago returning. No problems, all legs were packed. The flight out always seems so long! Picked up our rental from Dollar and we are ready !! Valet and parking at our hotel the Orleans was easy and fast!
HOTEL-We stayed at the Orleans for the first time. We have stayed at TI and Harrahs in the past. I had received an email offer for 50% off room rates and snatched that up. Total for our 7 night stay was 185.00. The Orleans was fine, it was the first time we had even been there. Our room was on the 10th floor, it was quiet and had a view of the strip in the distance. It took a while to adjust to the casino and get our bearings. We took in a movie on Christmas Day in their movie theatre.
FOOD-We are not into gourmet meals! We did eat on Mon Ami Gabi for the first time. It was too cold for outside, so we dined inside. The table we were seated at was very small! The food was good, I had steak and frites and my husband has some kind of pork tenderloin. I would go back and would like to sit out side and enjoy the fountains. Overall an enjoyable meal.
Ellis Island-We went for breakfast one morning and had great service. Our breakfasts were huge portions. I had french toast, way more than I could eat, and my husband had country fried steak and eggs. We both enoyed it! We did not make it back for our usual steak special this trip. Both of us lost money gambling here this trip, maybe that is why we did not go back!
Orleans restaurants, Don Miguels, good Mexican, my favorite meal of the trip, Prime Rib Loft, very tasty prime rib, salad and baked potato all at a reasonable price. Big Al's Oyster Pub- HUGE portions, we had clam chowder and jambalya, more than we could eat, sharing both. Terrible Mikes, loved this little place. Cooked to order burgers and a fixin's bar, yes, I like it better than In and Out! Cafe, great graveyard specials under 5.00.
Buffets-Orleans, breakfast buffet was okay, my husband enjoyed it! Green Valley Ranch for lunch, this was very good in my opinion for a mid priced buffet, especially with half off coupons! Harrahs buffet Laughlin, not the best, but okay if you are hungry.
Other eats were at various places, not real memorable, I FINALLY got my shrimp cocktail from Golden Gate, what took me so long? I loved it! Will go back for sure!
GAMBLING-Played mostly slots at Orleans and held my own for the first couple of days. I loved the Elvis slots, had fun playing them. My husband discoverd Monopoly Big Event and I could not get him away from those. He never played a slot until about a year ago and now he is addicted to penny slots! He can play for hours. Most of our "hits" although very small were at off strip casinos and downtown, we just could not get any play time on the strip.
VP-I had practiced DDBP and had some luck at Main Street Station and Green Valley Ranch. Not big jackpots, 100.00 here and there. I had no luck at Orleans, Red Rock Canyon, Fiesta Henderson playing VP.
Blackjack-Played at Orleans, could not get any cards. Mostly 5.00 tables. Played at Flamingo with no luck. Finally had some luck at Harrahs Laughlin and at 4 Queens downtown. Fun tables all around, just no cards, dealer would draw to21 or 20 a lot! Could not get any runs going!
3 card poker- Played this in Laughlin at a 5.00 for the first time. My husband lost his 100.00 buy in quickly. I held my own and had a great time. Finally cashed out about 100.00 ahead.
Sportsbets-Husband's department, I just know I won some on a basketball game and doubled my money with a little extra! Husband lost all this sports bets, he needs to ask me for the advice! We had fun watching games at Orleans and Ballys.
Overall I came home with some of my original bankroll. There were big ups and downs. Had a lot of fun. Oh the Big Wheels of Fortune are everywhere and they suck out the money fast as you can put it in. My husband won about 250.00 on these over the course of the trip, but I probably lost that much. So I'd say we broke even on WoF!!
SIDETRIPS- Laughlin for a comped room at Harrahs, this was our first trip there, it was okay, glad we went, probably would not go back unless it was summer. Our room was nice, bed was great and view of the Colorado River. We went to Oatman Arizona, drove over from Laughlin, interesting little town on Route 66. Took some pics of the burros and then went back to Laughlin. Red Rock, went up one morning and it was cold and snowing. Very pretty with snow on the mountains, just too cold to get out and walk around!
SUMMARY-Overall a great trip! We had a blast, did not take in any shows this trip. It seemed as though jetlag was getting to both of us this trip and my allergies were acting up and drinking beer instead of water did not help much! Therefore we were in bed early and up early most days. We visited lots of off strip properties this trip. We only went over to the strip 3 times during our 7 day stay. We loved the Orleans especially for the price we paid and would stay again. If you have any questions, please ask!
