This week's question comes from Boston Bill:
How do you get your Vegas fix?
What Magazines or websites do you look at
to get in the Vegas mood.

Magazine i look at: The in-room magazine/brochure from 1973 from caesars palace. I didnt go that year, my parents did - but i love looking at the sucker.
Website i look at: THIS ONE
What else i look at: Out my bedroom window -- i can juuuuuuuuuuuust see the top of the Strat Tower.

I love nothing more than to read trip reports. I pretend I'm actually there, living vicariously through the person posting. I also hate to admit that I watch (shamelessly, I might add) anything on TV about LV.
It's an annual pilgrimage for us but as soon as the kids are gone, 10-12 years from now, it will be a much more frequent trek.

Only Vegas can give me a Vegas Fix. Nothing else seems to work. Watching Vegas Vacation works a little bit.
Your site is great.I also go on casino times for information.ONE site to avoid is Vegas Rex, way to much profanity. The moderator thinke it is cool to swear

The only way to get a Vegas "fix" for me is to go up to Monticello and play the video slots. We don't do that often but it helps in between Vegas trips. It's been 6 months since my last trip and it will probably by 6 months more till my next trip so I'll be heading to Monticello soon!

I am Always in the Vegas mood. I don't need to do anything to get into the mood.
I get my Vegas fix by reading everything LV, going to the local river boat for the day. Surfing the web for low priced air fares, double checking the post card offers and e mail offers I have received, reading trip reports. Checking hotel web site reservation calandars looking for a dip in a room price that can be matched up with a dip in air fare.

I too love to read the Trip Reports for unbiased information. Of course I go to many different sites everyday to gather info for the newsletter so I get my fix just about everyday.
I am now listening to all the Vegas Podcasts, especially the top of the line ones that I include in my newsletter. Who knows. maybe I will do an interview with one of them.

Great question! I talk Vegas to anyone who's been there or will listen! Same goes for e mail. My Vegas companions & I talk Vegas all the time. I read anything, watch anything on TV. Search web sites. Love the trip reports and this newsletter. Booked for June 2007 and can't wait. I'm addicted. Viva Las Vegas

I read the Review Journal on-line almost every day. I subscribe to VEGAS magazine which I look forward to every month. Sometimes check out the Real Estate Book with a dream of moving to Las Vegas, funny how many mailing lists I get on from one inquiry.
Love this website, reading trip reports and restaurant reviews. Watch whatever TV show that comes on about Las Vegas. Can also be something simple like drinking my morning coffee from my Mirage mug.

I read posts and trip reports at various Vegas sites, also watch anything on TV related to Vegas.
We are going down this Thursday for 10 days, can't wait.

Usually I go back and look at the photos I took from my last vacation - always brings a smile and usually a few laughs! :D
I also check out the latest rates and package deals and then try to convince one of my girlfriends to plan a trip with me. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't... this time it did! We are going back April 11th! Let the countdown begin. WOO HOO! ;)

Boston Bill has pretty much covered my "fixes" plus I have a few he did not mention. I always watch Vegas on Friday nights and it's background shots of Vegas. Knowing where the "Montecido" might be located, I always chuckle when James Caan's office shows the Mirage, Harrah's, and the Venetian through the window. I have the Vegas temperature set up on AOL so I always know it. I always read Norm's column in the RJ to see what's happening and who's there doing what with whom. Can't wait until April for our next trip. I subscribe to Vegas magazine and occasionally inquire about spending longer time in Vegas to escape the New England winter.

I also like reading the NEON section of the RJ on Friday just to see what's happening in Las Vegas. I actually follow the 51's baseball team during the summer.

Well, of course, ELV is my favorite site to read TR's and keep up with whats going on in Vegas. Also, I watch most of the Vegas shows on TV too. As far as a gambling ( gaming here in Louisiana ... lol ) fix, we go to the boats once in a while and to the VP casinos around here to get our ( my ) fix.

I need a fix almost weekly. Can't get to LV until May this year, but I have the History Channel's history of LV on DVD, then I go to Everything LV and Anthony Curtis' site.
Jeez these days I get a charge out of the beauty shots of the strip on CSI. Guess they're going to have to update once the Stardust goes.

The Everything Las Vegas news letter and forum is a must, then anything Las Vegas related gets my juices flowing to want to get there. TV programs, magazines, Sunday newspaper, and a lot of Vegas related and gambling web sites. My computer screen always has a Vegas related theme for it's wallpaper. It is of course my favorite topic to talk about with anyone. I get my in-between trip fix at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego county, but still need to get to Las Vegas for the real thing at least 4 times a year.:D

I've only been going to Vegas for about 1 1/2 years. Some of my non-Vegas friends think I've gone nuts while my Vegas friends never stop talking about it. In fact, I meet more people all the time that are Vegas nuts. Just yesterday, I found out my snow shoveler guy likes the Imperial Palace.
I get my between fix many ways. This web site is my favorite spot. I check in several times a day. Yes, I suppose it's sick, but I need to know what you all are doing!
I have other favorite web sites, most notably vegasttodayandtomorrow.com and A2Zlasvegas.com
I read Casino Player and am thinking of subscribing to their sister magazine Strictly Slots.
I have a couple of computer games I enjoy. One is a casino simulator that has many games I can practice in my den. Of course, yesterday I sat down and lost 670 fake dollars in a matter of 30 minutes. Thank goodness it was fake money!
My other game is one where you design and run your own casino resort. Lots of fun.
I also regularly revisit my camcorder tapes I've recorded on trips. Takes me right back there.
I'm itching for a trip right now, but not sure when I'll be able to take it.

#1 fix is definitely Everything Las Vegas and the Forums!
I also subscribe to Las Vegas Advisor and Casino Player, and we go to Atlantic City 3-4 times a year. We also went to the racino at Yonkers recently, and while it's no substitute for LV or AC, it is less than an hour from home, lunch was pretty good, and I found a good slot machine, so it was a fun couple of hours.
I also get my LV fix by planning our trips way in advance (just booked for October), doing lots of research about shows, restaurants, shopping, sight-seeing, etc., looking at pictures from past trips.
We also watch shows about LV on the Travel Channel, Food Network, & History Channel.
There are quite a few Vegas-aholics in my office, so we all T- together and trade information, opinions, and "wish we were there's."

My wife & I start practicing playing B/J @ home. Also get on the forums @ LVA & look up places we're staying. We have our routine when we get there as far as which places we go. Definitely have to hit the triple points places for video poker. Feb. 12th will be arriving.
I'm always ready to head out to Vegas....it just might be August before I can go again. While waiting I read the Review-Journal online and forums on ELV as well as the Question of the Day on LVA each morning. Each Monday I read the Vegas4Visitors post. I pick up any new guide books I see at the bookstore and keep them by the bed and "throne" for a bit of reading. Every Friday the wife and I try to catch " Las Vegas" at 8pm, though this just whets the appitite. I also help friends and family plan their trips. I really enjoy introducing "rookies" to LV and watching them become fanatics too!

I read this everyday. I read the Review journal on line, especially Norm, the Business section, and Neon on Friday. I also read thr Las Vegas advisor with the QOD and Jean Scott's colum on Friday.
All the people i do business with know are always asking me vegas questions, and I am always there to give them a helping hand on what to see.
And if all else faikls I just talk to my son who has one year left at UNLV for some vegas news.
Everyone ask Richard at the Grotto inside the Golden Nugget (shameless plug) Thursday -Sunday and tip him well, the best waiter in Vegas

When we need a Vegas fix, I get on the internet and check different webcams. The Imperial Palace's webcams are the best. Then, we've kept our Vegas magazines that we get in the hotel so that we can look through them from time to time.
The best way to take care of a Vegas withdrawl??? GO BACK!!! We're going down for spring break in April....staying at the BEST HOTEL EVER....THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. We've decided that this is the only hotel to stay in. It's the best.:) :)

Like many of you, EverythingLV is favorite site. Monthly trips to Foxwoods helps, along with our weekend trips to Atlantic City, but LV tops them all. We also have a little group of 3 couples that get together every week to play dealer's choice crazy games of poker. Lots of fun! We all get to LV at least once a year, though one couple gets there at least twice. Also, watch LV on Fridays, and CSI...along with travel channel, and the poker games on TV.

I adore the trip reports. When I'm missing Vegas, I'll search for new ones on ELV and some other sites. The forums here and the newsletter are my main fixes and I get those daily (sometimes more than once a day!). Also, gotta have Vegas Magazine once a month. Usually, it's out by the 20th. This month, it was late. It completely stressed me out. When it arrives, all I want to do is climb into bed and read it, slowly, so it lasts 2 or 3 days. Also love the IP webcams. If you look closely on the south facing camera, you can see the Bellagio fountains. Now, that's a fix!

vegas4visitors.com is a GREAT site...the "Weekly column" is very informative, and Rick Garmen knows his stuff. Also, lasvegastripreport.com and ratevegas.com are a lot of fun! Both are interactive. These sites get me through until my next visit!

Hi, Gina!
I had to wait until I got home to answer your question. The game I bought is called REAL DEAL CASINO and it's made by Shuffle Master. Bought it at Best Buy about 1 1/2 years ago. They had quite a few different ones to choose from. This one's been pretty fun.
Lots of different games. I'm definately a much higher roller in the virtual casino than in the real one. Besides the different games, you can also enter tournaments, both slot and table games. Goofy stuff, too, like earning points to redeem on funny prizes.

Always in the mood for vegas....
I have Vegas as one of my selected weather reports on Road Runner.
I enjoy "talking Vegas" with similarly obsessed friends - and anyone else who'll listen ( to be honest ).
I carry two sets of keys - both with Vegas key chains - one features mini casino chips.
Love, of course, reading the ELV newsletter and forums, and participating in forums.
Watch TV shows about Vegas, or set in Vegas
I love to play my own game of "beat that price", where I constantly try to better my pricing on components of upcoming Vegas trips - my husband says it seems I almost enjoy the preparations for the trip as much as the trip!
My computer wallpaper is a photo I took of the Chihuli (sp?) ceiling of the Bellagio lobby.
Staying in touch, via phone calls and e-mails, with some Vegas locals friends is always fun.
But when it comes down to it, Vegas has ruined me for other trips - including other casinos/casino towns - it's so much more than just the gambling that makes me love Vegas. It's the whole "Vegas package" that we love.
I try to get to Vegas 3-4 times a year, but would love to go every 1-1/2 to 2 months, if I could.....:(

I think this website is enough "fix" for me (and all the others Vegas lovers).
It is great to look at it und to read the thoughts and experiences of the other members.
I read a lot of books about Las Vegas and also collect them. Although here in Germany there are some good books about Vegas, I rather buy them every year on my holidays in the USA.
Some days it is enough just to look at a pic of Las Vegas to have this strong desire, go to the airport and jump on a plane that brings you to your beloved city. But I am afraid I have to wait til September/October.
I also brought some in-room-magazines with me from last October. Even if they are old by now, I love to read in these.

I read a number of websites: This one (duh), LV Casino Death Watch, Vegas Today and Tomorrow, A2Z Las Vegas Visitors Guide, and even though the content rarely changes, Cheapo Vegas.
Once the trip dates are set, I look at Virtual Tourist and Trip Advisor to see the recent reviews as well as dusting off Hoyle Casino to get back into practice with the basic strategies of the games. I also have about 5 other casino simulators that I picked up for one feature or another.

I like reading the Trip Reports. They put me in a good "Vegas mood", but I have to say, I'm always in a "Vegas mood"...;)
I read this website almost everyday, and if anything is on TV about Vegas, I usually watch it (even though I've probably seen it already...)
If I happen to hear someone mention Vegas, I immediatetly join in the conversation. It's very interesting to hear other people's reactions to Vegas, especially first timers. It's pretty much a 50-50 opinion... Half love it, and half can do without it. I'm glad I'm in the 1st half!!!!! :D

I read ELV every day - my morning ritual while I have my coffee<g>. I also belong to a couple of Yahoo groups that I receive daily emails from. My friends are all Vegas addicts so when we're together, talk invariably turns to what's new in our favorite city. I'm so bad about the place that I have Vegas checks, Vegas calendars and Vegas wallpaper (one of my own photos) on my computer.

I visit this website and read it almost everyday. I read the newsletter too. I also visit other sites and forums. There are many of us out there suffering from Vegas withdrawl and need the daily fix! I try to catch any shows on the Travel Channel that show Vegas. If something about Vegas is on the food network, I watch that too. I at times check the Las Vegas News Journal to keep up on happenings in Vegas. I subscribe to Casino Player magazine and thumb through it even after I am finished reading looking at ads and pictures. I try to go to local casino once a month to hold me over. I am not sure when my next trip will be, so thanks to all for helping me get through the day!

Of course I read "Everything Las Vegas" several times a week and
"Las Vegas Advisor" too, sorry Steve. In recent years we try to
go to Vegas twice a year. In between we go to Biloxi and stay at
Imperial Palace most of the time. However, it's just not Vegas and
hasn't been the same since Katrina. I use to watch Las Vegas on
Friday nights, however, that show sucks. Looking forward to our
trip in April when my brother, his wife and one of our daughters
will be joining us. Can't wait!!!

I get my "fix" every once in a while in Mt. Pleasant but the best is when we have the time to go to the Brimley in the UP. There are 2 casinos about 2 miles apart and then one in Sault Ste. Marie. As far as reading goes...there's only one thing I read and that "Everything Las Vegas"...there is no other that even compares with Steve's Newletter and website. Thanks for doing it, Steve.
I get my fix from the ELV newsletter.
My main board is LV talk (www.lasvegastalk.com)
I read the ELV boards,
LVA,
www.whatbrianthinksaboutlasvegas.com
and Casino Player and Strictly Slots ( but a lot of their info is later than the ELV newwsletter)

The benefit of living in Los Angeles is that Las Vegas is a 4.5 hour drive away. So, if I want to go, I jump into my car and drive a few hours. BigBadBob has a shorter drive than I do. If I don't want to drive that far, the Indian casinos are about 2 hours away, but it just isn't the same.
However, this falls into the category of living close enough so that you don't have to go very often. I've lived in Los Angeles for 20 years and have only been to Disneyland twice.
To be placed in the wolf guarding the hen house category: AppleJade now living in Las Vegas. Yikes!! That's too close.
Others have mentioned just talking to others about Las Vegas. Have you noticed that whenever a discussion turns to Las Vegas, virtually everyone has something to say? Good or bad. It seems that those that have no opinion have never been to Las Vegas.

I have been putting the Las Vegas on TV info in the newsletter. The problem is that the Las Vegas Advisor now posts the info on Saturday, the day after the newsletter is sent out. I have asked them to do this on a Friday but it doesn't look like they will do it. Perhaps if enough members asked this to be done on a Friday, this might work.
I am now posting that info on Saturday morning at the Forums.

I live in NJ, 2 1/2 hours from Atlantic City and Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun in CT. We go to both quite often but nothing is like the REALTHING, 5 hours by plane. We go to LV twice a year, and I do lots of reading online in between.
Trip reports are great. I'm not organized enough to submit my own.
I LOVE these message boards. They are like a support group for me, because none of my friends or relatives understands the gambling thing. When I try to explain that properly played blackjack returns over 99%, or that some VP can return over 100%, their eyes glaze over. Time to start checking air fares.
