This week's Topic Of The Week" question is:
How about a favorite story about hitting a Royal/Jackpot.
What made it the best or so unusual that it sticks out in your mind. The reason I thought of this topic was because an odd thing happened to me this past weekend that led me to hit a Royal as if it were destiny.
PS: Actually, it doesn't have to be a JACKPOT per say, it could be any large amount of winnings including table games.

First royal was at an Indiana boat casino - quarters. I kept the queen of clubs thinking "I hope I catch another queen" when the rest of the royal filled in. The guy that was next to me for 20 minutes moved away. All the other royals were in LV.

Hi all -
Happened a couple of years ago. Went to Vegas and took my in-laws with hubby and me. They had never been to Vegas. Was playing at Palace Station that morning and hubby hit a royal on a quarter machine. Left and went to Laughlin to see an Aunt and Uncle, came back that evening and he hit another royal, same bank of machines, opposite end !! It was a great day !!!

Even though Eileen and I have been very lucky on the $5 Wheel Of Fortune's, our biggest hit came on the $1.00 10x's pay.
We always go 50/50 on the slots when we play together and we always put $20 each in a $1 slot with each of us taking turns spining the reels.
Eileen actually got a vibe for this one 10's pay slot at Harrah's and of course I moaned that this is a really hard machine to make any money with. Well it was my turn and I spun the reels revealing a 10's Pay symbol, a Double Bar, and another 10's pay symbol for 100x's 40 or $4000. Eileen thought it was $400 when it showed up on the payline and I had to tell her it was $4000.

Ok, we all know, :D , that most of the time when your playing VP at a bar, if someone at that bar hits a Royal we all move. We just know that bar is dead for Royals. Not so. Sitting next to a friend in our group at a bar in the IP, both playing VP, he hits a Royal with jackpot for around $1400. They come and check all the 1099G info and, before they return with his money, I hit a Royal, of course for "just" $1000. It was so neat we could both celerbrate together and mean it! We all know it is neat when your wife/husband/friend or whatever hits a jackpot but inside, you really would rather it be you...well this was perfect. John in Caro- next trip this spring

Our biggest payout happened to my wife about three years ago. We were at TI and playing a quarter machine called "Top Cat".(not the cartoon but a cat with a top hat.) The "Top Cat" on the third reel was wild and matched any other winning symbol and also randomly mulitiplied the winning amount. Max Payout was $250 for three 7s. On her third spin, She got 7, 7, and Top Cat. We spun the Mulitplier and up came 3X! $750!!!!! Our biggest win ever!!! Maybe not as much other wins by other people BUT this paid for the trip with a lot leftover!

Several years ago I hit a progressive Royal on a 25 cent machine at the Hard Rock. What makes it special was that we were on our way out to go back to our hotel (I believe it was the Riviera ) and Cheryl decided that she should use the ladie's room first. While waiting for her I put $5 in the machine and played a few hands. Was on the last hand as she came out and had 10, J, K, A of clubs and J spades. Told her this was the end and discarded the J spades and up popped the Q clubs:D . The progressive was around $1500 and had to fill out the tax form. Haven't hit anything that big since.:(

I was waiting for my son to get a fill on his poker machine at Bally's, so I put some money in an unusual 3 play 5 play poker machine.(I think it was a double pay) I had never played one before, but you had to play 15 quaters on the first hand and 15 quarters on the second, If you had any winners on the deal on any of the hands you were paid much more than the usual payout. Then you held your cards on the second hand on the bottom hand (as usual on a multiplay poker game) Remember this was a quarter machine. WELL it dealt me a royal on the bottom hand which paid $15,000.00 for a royal dealt then it held the other 2 royals for a grand total of $18,000.00. I was absolutely floored as was my son. I said I won $18,00.00, my son said Mom, that's a quarter machine that's 18,000 quarters. By this time the floor person was there writing up the 1099, I said that is eighteen thousand dollars isn't it? He said yep how do you want it? We had a fun trip that time!

It had been a good 12 years since I filled out a 1099 G until last year. There was a Megabucks machine in the aisle at Boulder Station that we always played when we passed by. We'd each put a $20 in "just to see what would happen". One night, my partner played her $20 and hit one $3 pay :( . I didn't take it as a good omen. When it was my turn, I hit a $45 pay, a $15 pay and a few $3 pays. I asked "should I play it all out?" and she said "sure, why not." I was back down to below my original $20 when I hit a combination that paid $1400+ :D . Of course, being on the aisle, nearly everyone that walked by had to stop and look and say something. And I had to fill out a 1099 G! It's been a long time since I last had to "chase down" win/loss statements!

About 5 years ago, I made my first trek to LV as a gambler. One of my girlfriends introduced me to daily slot tournaments at the Monte Carlo. We each picked our machine and beat the daylights out of it - no luck, but we came back for the drawing for a seat. My number got selected! Just as the tournament is about to begin, I hear a squeal of delight from one of my comrades - she hit on the nickel 10x machine! $750!!!!! I'm excited for her, but can't leave my seat, so I'm hitting the button on the tournament machine not paying much attention. When they came around to get the scores, I had placed second! It was a great night.

I was in Vegas a couple of years ago to witness a wedding (they've already divorced). The 'groom' talked me into playing Let It Ride with him at the Horseshoe since I'd recently won $100 on video poker. Towards the end of the day, I was dealt a 4,5,6 of diamonds. I had to Let It Ride. The dealer turned over a 7 of diamonds. By then I was about hyperventilating. I told her over and over 8 of diamonds, 8 of diamonds... but she turned over a 3 of diamonds. I said, "oh well, at least I got the flush" when the girl next to me says, "I think you got it". She then asked me what my cards were - and I couldn't remember! Anyway, needless to say I got a straight flush and the table was very exited. It turned out I won $5,000 - still my biggest win to date. One of the guys at the table talked the pit boss out of making me fill out tax forms by telling him I really won $1,000 on each bet on the table. It was great!

I used to make regular trips to Laughlin, NV during my Vegas vacations. The place of choice for me was the Pioneer Hotel and Casino, which used to be owned by the Sahara Group, until a few years ago. While not fancy, the machines paid very well, the coffee shop had the best food in the town, and the rooms were very comfortable and clean. On my opinion (and judging by the emptyness of the place), times have changed at the Pioneer, since the demise of the Sahara Group. The machines are wicked-tighter (I mean WICKED-TIGHTER), the food is not good (seafood night made a couple of my co-travelers sick), and the service is not what is was. Case in point: They used to check us in early on Fridays> This time, when we got there, they made us wait in line 3 times at various times of the day before they would permit us to check in. By time #3 I was LIVID. With steam still coming out of my ears, I sat down at a Jacks or Better Vp machine, right by the Registration Desk. Five plays later....ROYAL FLUSH!!! Now please keep in mind, as good of a VP player I think I am, I have NEVER hit a Royal; not on any machine, computer game, hand held game, or ANYTHING, or anything since, for that matter. Can you imagine what I was feeling? I was still so mad that it was not so much that I hit the Royal, but I BEAT THE PIONEER, and no matter what, I was taking a nice chunk of their money home, regardless of what I gambled or ate. YESSS!!!! I still took care of the folks that hand paid me though (hey, ya gotta!). And no, the casino offered me nothing...
Needless to say, Laughlin (esp. the Pioneer), are now off the list of places to go...

When I lived near Cripple Creek Colorado, I had a 6 week hot streak and won a progressive VP JP every time I went. The best one was that when I was at Bronco Billy's nickel poker bar and hit a progressive for about 300, then later, hit a JP for about $1400 on a quarter VP machine. I had called my husband to let him know I'd won again (he'd hit on a quarter VP machine also at Womacks and left), and told him I'd leave when I had only 100 credits left in the machine. Right after I hung up, I hit again on the same machine! I won a total of $2700 that day, my ex won $2000, so all in all a great (and never repeated) night!
I've NEVER done that well in Vegas, but love to keep going back to try ;)

Was playing a $1.00 Triple Red White and Blue machine at the Mirage New Years weekend and hit a jackpot for $1600 and after they came and paid me and was walking off, I had $60 left in the machine and before they turned the corner to leave I hit another jackpot for $2400!! That was a great feeling:D

My husband and I were on a LV trip a couple years ago, and we had fight in our room. He went downstairs to the casino and fed a $100 bill into a 7 machine. He said he wasn't paying any attention to the reels and was muttering under his breath. He kept slapping the "repeat bet" button and was vowing to blame the waste of the $100 on me. All of the sudden the lights and music went on, and he realized he had three 7's in a row. He thought it was $1000, but it turns out that the 7's were on the line for the top jackpot of $8000! He immediately called me from his cell phone, but since I was still mad, I didn't pick up. After about the 10th call in a row, I answered the phone. His news was much better than an apology! Needless to say, we forgot all about the fight (and still to this day can't remember what it was about). Now, any time we're not getting much play on the slot machines, one of us will turn to the other and say with a grin, "ya wanna have a fight?" :)

I have only hit 1 royal on a 25 cent video poker machine. I always used to play only nickels, but my son sent me 2 rolls of quarters for Mothers' Day several years ago so I could play quarters with my husband on my birthday at Sunset Station in Vegas in June. He had been trying to hit one for years unsuccessfully.
I played part of my quarters on a Deuces Wild Machine and then got discouraged so went to BINGO for an hour. I came back and he was still playing, so I said, "Did anyone hit anything big on my machine while I was gone?" He replied that no one had even played it, so i put more money in. I was up to $80 when I was dealt a 4 card royal in clubs. I said, "Could it happen?" I gave him a hug and hit the button. I started jumping up and down, yelling, I hit the real one, I hit the real one!" $1000, and on my birthday at that!

The slots rarely pay in Vegas. The stories here are few and far between and amounts generally not much. Two weeks ago we were in Vegas and played up and down the strip and downtown and never say anyone win very much at all. The most we saw in a win was about $500. This is pathetic considering the amount gambled. Vegas has to wake up and pay out and let some of us see that happening and soon. Slots put up the big buildings on the strip and if you don't pay out more often, and more monies then people will wise up...at some point. We pay lots less each year we go and couldn't get much more than 100 bucks any one time over 6 days.
Largest win was about $300 and that was 4-5 years ago.

My Royal Flush just happened last month. Dec. 2006. I was playing Texas Holdem at the Golden Nugget and needed a bathroom break. After that, I decided to use the $30.00 voucher I had in my purse. Went over to the dollar poker machine and I had been playing only 1, 2 or 3 dollars. When I got to the last $5.00, just hit max, held the Q, K, & 10 of hearts, and it gave me the A & 10 of hearts, for the Royal Flush and $4000.00. It was a great shock. Can't wait to go back soon and try it again.

The first time I visited Vegas for my son's wedding I hit a Royal at the Sands...I had never played video poker before this trip. It was so funny I told my daughter don't touch the machine and go get the change lady right away...I thought if I touched the machine I would lose the Royal...That $1000.00 kept all the kids and Dad gambleing for rest of the trip..After that I was hooked....sure was fun!

A few years back I was at the airport for the trip home - I had lost around $100 for a 3 day business trip. I had an hour to kill so I purchased $20 in dollar coins and started playing a dollar poker machine. About 1/2 way in, I pulled ace, king, and ten of spades - so I held them and lo and behold I pulled the royal flush. I had only enough time to collect my winnings - the plane was leaving so Vegas got none of the money back! (on that trip).

My first big win,and the most memoriable was on my 40th birthday(10 years ago last week) At our brand new area casino(before I worked for them-if you work there you can't play there) Anyway, my husband and I are playing on a bank of $1.00 slots and he hits for $900. GREAT,now while waiting to be paid I am just walking up and down the bank playing each one, not even looking at the machines, Then the song started playing, and lights started flashing,I had hit something! Not even really sure what, the attendant that came back to pay my husband told me I won $3600. Awesome!! Took the majority of it home(even photocopyed the thousand dollar bills) That is my single biggest win to date, and the most exiciting!! What a Happy Birthday!

My wife and I love to play VP--especially Triple Double Bonus--and video Keno. This anecdote occurred several years ago at Harrah's Joliet. We always play max coin, as it would be foolish not to--as I'll illustrate now: I was playing a $1 IGT sequential RF machine; when I got down to my last few dollars, I played with just one coin in (Harrah's was still using dollar tokens then). I got dealt a royal! The only time I was ever dealt a royal [this one was in spades], and I only had one coin in! That error cost me $3500: that particular machine paid $50K for a sequential royal (almost impossible to hit!) and $4K for a standard RF, but only with max coin.
On other occasions, I've seen people play one coin and lose out on a bonus round or jackpot. On linear-pay machines, your payouts are proportionate; but on progressives and "buy a pay" machines, you must play max coin. Keno machines, by contrast, are proportionate, period.
Please heed this msg, lest you get shafted, too.
Now, go out there and hit a royal!

We go to Vegas every year at Christmas to visit my inlaws. In December 2002, I hit my first Royal Flush at the bar nearest the sportsbook at the Stratosphere on our first day out there.
In December 2003, almost a year to the day, I hit my second Royal Flush at a bank of video poker machines outside the Oasis Bar, also at the Stratosphere.
Since then...nada. But what a great story!

This took place in Tunica Mississippi a couple of years ago at the horseshoe. I was having bad luck all evening.......so I decided to give it up and go to bed. Started out .....when I remenbered that I needed some bottled water to make my coffee in the morning ( Hate that soft tap water )
Went up to the bar and asked the server for some water, and decided to put a dollar in the keno machine.......( I was new to keno ) played one quarter, and hit 7 out of 7 for $1750. Took an hour to get paid. I remenber saying.....that is the craziest thing I ever saw........ 25 cents for all that money , couldn't believe it. I have hit many jackpots after that but that is the one that surprised me the most.

First time poster here. First, thanks to Steve and all the other people who post. I've enjoyed reading all of you for quite a while and finally decided to take the plunge.
I visit Las Vegas 8-10 times a year which a lot of flying from south Florida. 5+ hours each way. I guess I'd be classified as a 'high roller' viewing the posts. I play mainly $5 machines, so I collect around 100-120 W-2G's a year. (fyi, they're not 1099's, but W-2G's)
I've hit about a dozen times 5x5x7 for $15,000 each, hit the Quick Hit's on the line for $25,000 three times. But my favorite stories for huge wins are hitting the MGM Mirage's Top Dollar progressive at TI a couple of years ago. I had played this particular machine the night before and had a couple of nice hits. The next day I went to the spa, had a massage, did the steam room, etc and headed downstairs to take care of something before going to my suite to shower and change. I saw a gentleman hit 'my' Top Dollar machine for an $850 payoff and decided to try it again after he walked away. $300 later, I hit the progressive for $100,132. I was dumbstruck. I'd actually seen someone else hit this progressive twice, wishing it was me. I also play 4 card Crazy Poker. A lot of fun, and really streaky. I play $25 chips and, as luck would have it at the TI again a few months ago, looked at my first two cards which were aces. I played 'blind' with the last three cards, tripling my bottom bet. The dealer turned over the other two aces. About $7500 on a $75 bet. Lastly I'll mention tournaments. I've had the good fortune (read dumb luck) to actually win 2 of the last 3 President's Invitational Tournaments at the MGM Grand. They invite their top 50 players (each of us with over 2 million Player's Club points) in for the weekend. Top prize each time was $100,000. This past year it was especially fun as I had my best friend and gambling buddy from San Francisco, my sister from Tennessee and my boyfriend there for the win. It was actually the first time anyone actually SAW me win anything big. If it wasn't for the W-2G's, I'm not sure they'd believe all my 'fish' stories about winning!

The first was @ the Sahara playing next to my wife. I drew 2 cards to the Royal & almost knocked my wife off the stool as the cards I needed came up. $1700. Needless to say we ordered double Jack Daniels. The second Royal was also @ the Sahara on the same bank of machines only on the other side. Wife went to the restroom & I hit for $1007. I saw her coming & I was dancing in the aisle. She couldn't believe it. Both Royals were in hearts. I wish she would get one. Maybe this Feb. when we're there.

I had been playing Let it Ride for a while at the IP. I was doing ok, my buddy was losing so he left. It was late like 4am I just kept playing. finally I hit a 4 of a kind for $1050. I jumped up and screamed. ....... there was no one at the table, people from other tables looked at me, no one to share the win with.
I cashed out and ran to find my friend. Luckily I found him wondering at Harrah's.
That was weird.
ps. I had hit a 4 of a kind at Rio a year or two earlier and didn't scream or get excited. the people at the table gave me a hard time for not being more excited. When I finally hit another there is no one around.

I have had a few Royals, but the biggest excitement was being dealt a royal flush! The five cards came up, and the machine went into automatic mode - it held all of the cards (so no idiot could "lose" it) and then it hit "draw". Then it started going through the royal flush sequence and started paying off. I haven't heard too many stories of being dealt a royal, so it made it special. At least that trip to Vegas was a winner!

Haven't been to the site for awhile (just read the newsletter) but I couldn't resist my adding my story. My husband and I were staying at the Reserve (before changing to one of the Station's group). I always have to gamble as soon as we get there so we grabbed a drink and sat at a bank of VP machines. I hit my first ever quarter Royal Flush...pretty exciting....they paid me and gave me a T-shirt :) We drive in from New Mexico and it is about a 7 hour drive so my husband was a little tired and went up to the room for a nap. I stayed at that same bank of machines and yep...sure enough....hit another Royal Flush...got another T-shirt. I went to the room and told my husband "I felt so bad that you didn't get a T-shirt that I got another one, just for you." I haven't done as well since. Next trip is end of May for my son's wedding. Really looking forward to it.
This happened at Harrah's in Joliet Il. I went to Harrah's one day (Back when the boats left the dock) with my mother in law. We had 5 minutes left to get off the boat and she started stuffing the $5.00 slot machines trying to win. Well I figured why not so I put in $20 and the first spin I won $1,000.00 and she lost about $300 in 10 minutes. Dinner was on me that night. When my wife got home she said what do you mean you went to the riverboat with my mother?

I've hit several, but never enough for a W2G. The one that stands out is a 2 cent Golden Goose machine. I was at our local casino with my BIL who was visiting from GA. He was tired and wanted to go. I said...let me put in another $20. He was bummed....oh well. :)
I was playing back and forth...times 2, times 3, times 2.... I then got 3 golden eggs to go into the 15 free spins with all wins tripled. About 8 or 10 spins into it I heard an egg hit, then another, and another, and then 2 more for 5 golden eggs. After that I didn't hit a thing, but the 5 eggs and the other bonus wins came up to just over $1,000. I cashed out and we left!
Another good story was at the same casino. I was playing a machine one row over from my wife, when my phone rings. It was my wife. My first thought was she needed more money. Then I realized she was crying. I thought..oh no, what happened. I then heard her say she just won the big bonus on the Penny Train for $2,700.
BTW..My lucky BIL is flying in tomorrow for about a week. Let's see if he's still my good luck charm. :) LOL

I have only hit one big jackpot. My business partner booked me home on the red eye (I hate red eyes) and my friend happened to be in town so we met up for dinner and to play. We wound up at NYNY and while playing the $5.00 VP hit the progressive for $29,972.00. The two oddest things that I have seen were the #17 hitting 5 spins in a row (at the trop) and a lady standing behind me call 14 #'s strieght both on roulette (at the horseshoe)

This happened about a year and a half ago. It was the last day of my annual birthday trek to Vegas and Lady Luck had not been smiling favorably upon me at all. I was down about $1500 for the week and was resigned to the fact that I was going to go home much lighter in the wallet than when I had arrived.
I was staying at the Monte Carlo on this trip and on this last fateful day decided to walk down to the Luxor and try my luck there. I was playing various slot and video poker machines and managing to hold my own. I wasn't winning a whole lot, but was, for the most part, managing to cash out for a few dollars more than I invested in most of them.
I had accumulated seven or eight cashout vouchers from my play and took them to the cashiers cage for payment. I then decided to walk over to Mandalay Bay through the indoor mall that connects the two properties.
Just as I was about to leave Luxor, I saw a machine that struck my fancy and put $20 into it. I played for a bit, and eventually cashed out for $30.00. Since I was about to head to Mandalay Bay, I stuck the voucher in my wallet and figured I'd cash it on my way back through.
Naturally by the time I was done wandering about Mandalay, I had totally forgotten about the $30 voucher and returned to the Monte Carlo. I happened to discover it in my wallet several hours later and was upset at myself for having forgotten to cash it. I was pretty tired and didn't really want to walk all the way back to Luxor, but being down as much as I was for the trip I decided that 30 bucks is 30 bucks and I wanted the money, so back I went.
Before I found the cashier cage, I spotted a Munster's penny slot machine which looked interesting, so rather than passing it by, I inserted the $30 voucher into it. I sat down and began playing. After maybe five or six spins, I hit the "max bet" button and my jaw dropped when I saw that whatever it was that I had lined up had just paid me 100,000 credits ($1,000.00!). To say I was excited would be a major understatement. Although I was still in the hole, I had at least put a major dent in my losses for the week. Needless to say at that point I was quite happy that I had forgotten to cash that voucher earlier. If I had remembered to do it when I had been there the first time, I wouldn't have been back, wouldn't have seen that machine, and wouldn't have won that jackpot! Sort of made me believe that destiny was at play there. :)
Much to my delight, my good luck didn't end there. I returned to the Monte Carlo and a few hours later sat down at a 25 cent 5X Pay machine. I put in $20 and after only a few minutes of play, I lined up Red 7-5x-5x for a pay off of $750! After I received that payout, I decided not to tempt fate and didn't do any more gambling that evening. It sure was nice coming home the next morning with a modest profit when things had been looking pretty bleak!

I was going to go bunjee jumping, I was staying at Imperial Palace and as I was about to take a shower first, they turned off the water in the hotel to work on the pipes. Well by the time the water came on again and I finally got to the place where you can bunjee jump, it was closed due to high winds. I went to a souvenir shop across the street from the bunjee place and the cashier said that the water being turned off probably saved my life. She gave me a cheap little slot machine keyring with my purchase. After I left the store I went to the Sahara. I put a fifty in a slot and was doing lousy. When I tried to cash out the machine didn't have enough in it. I jokingly asked the attendant if he could set the machine so I could win. He said "sure." After he left I thought, "What the heck" and I put in some more money in the same machine. After the third time I hit a jackpot. The bells are all going off and the same attendant comes back and says he'll turn all the racket off. I said when it's YOUR machine, that doesn't bother you. I won $625.00. Not a lot by some peoples standards, but it made me happy. That was what my trip cost. I don't know about the water being turned off saving my life, but it won me $625.00. I consider that cheap little keyring a good luck charm. :D

My first JP was in Atlantic City. I went with my dad, stepmom and sister...and it was a rather interesting trip. My dad went into the restroom and none of us saw him leave. Looking back now, it was rather hilarious...my stepmom is standing at the door to the bathroom and yelling for my dad....my sister and I are caught between hysterical laughter and disgust that we are missing out on some serious gambling time!
So after about 3 hours, we decide to gamble anyway and let the security look for my father (giving them a description). Lo and behold, my sister and I sit down to play and there's my dad, right behind us on a poker machine!
This ordeal tired them all out and everyone returned to our hotel except for me. I wanted to catch up on gambling. I took $20 and played it...cashing out the winnings and then going to another slot machine. After about the third machine (Cats and Dogs), I turned to get up and then decided to throw one more set of quarters in the machine. As I'm starting to leave, the bells go off and I can't figure out what's happening....I had just hit a $2500 JP!!!
I used the hotel phone to call my family to return back to the casino. Gave each of them $200 with the stipulation that $100 had to be played with.
Before reality sank in, I went over to that bank of $1 Wheel of Fortune machines that had alluded me for the past few days. I must have put about $400 in until I realized what I was doing <G>.
But I had a ball winning and especially watching my family enjoy their gifts.

I have been fortunate to hit many royals over the years, but the one that I remember the most happened at Circus Circus in Reno. I was playing BJ most of the afternoon at a fun table, and was about even. Had not been able to see the Packer score for their game, so about 6 p.m. went to the bar to watch the sports channel. Ordered a drink, and put a $20 bill in to play the JOB prog. I HATE JOB, as I think it is so boring, but also cannot sit and not play. On my first $20, hit the progressive for $2475 (the progressive resets at $1500 there). I was very excited, although several women down from me at the bar had not so nice things to say as they had been "chasing" the royal. Oh, and the Packers had won that day also!

my jack pot of rememberence, and my biggest one to date, was hit at the Ameristar Casino in KC, playing video Keno. I had 7 numbers playing and had two coins in (darn..why didn't I have 4) anyhow...I turned to talk to the person beside me and next thing I know, I look back and see all 7 numbers lit up and the machine says call attendent, hand pay..that was such as shocker..it was worth $3700 and I ended up with something like $3500 after taxes..I have a copy of that W2G framed with the numbers I hit on my wall as a reminder of my good fortune..now I am chasing 8 of 8 as my next goal, as well as my first royal.

My first post so hope this is correct.... I was on a bus tour and waiting for the departure time. It hadn't been a good day and I was betting ONE coin at a Video Poker machine... Yep, hit a Royal... This was at Primm, Nv where I do most of my gambling donations...

Never hit a royal...yet, but my best hit was on a Let It Ride table, and I hit for a Full House. I won $450. What made this even more memorable is that it was beginner's luck. This was the 1st time I had ever played Let It Ride. I was so excited. :D Biggest Slot payoff was $400 on VP machine in Mirage for 4 of a kind. :)
Someday I'll win big. I'm overdue for that! ;)

My fun jackpot was this past Saturday. I'm leaving for Vegas on Wednesday 1/17 and I usually don't go to our local casino (Mohegan Sun) for a month or so before Vegas, but I had gotten an offer for a couple of Paul Anka tickets and my sister in law and brother in law wanted to go, so I took a ride down as a favor. My husband was doing lots of grumbling about the trip, waiting on his sister, etc. I got there 45 minutes before the box office opened, so I told myself I would allow one hundred dollar bill to be spent and that was it. The only full pay 9/6 JorB that MS has are dollar denominations, so I headed to my favorite machine at the bar in the non-smoking room. First two hands were full houses, back to back, then a couple of pairs, then I was dealt the A, 10, J, K or hearts....hit draw and up popped that Queen! While I was waiting for the handpay I called hubby and told him to listen to the happy music<g> and told him I was waiting for my $4,000. He could not believe it! After getting paid, I played for another 15 minutes, cashed out with my original Benjie, stopped and picked up the tickets and drove home.
When the in laws picked the tickets up later that afternoon and thanked me for them, I told them that I owed them a thank you because I wouldn't have been near the Sun otherwise.

Since I've been playing, I've hit many jackpots (mostly royals); however, the most exciting one was being dealt a royal while playing at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City.
The second most exciting experience was several summers ago at Sam's Town in Las Vegas -- I hit a royal as I was going to have breakfast, then that evening, played a bit before I was going up for the night and hit another one (on the same machine!).

My first trip to a casino was to Foxwoods in 1998. I was blown away by the size of the place, and was totally confused by all the machines. I wandered around for an hour watching people play slots, while my brother was playing blackjack. I finally settled on a machine: 25 cent Fireball. Early on I lined up 2 Fireball symbols and just missed the 3rd one. I wondered how much the third would have been, but was clueless about how to read the payouts. A pull or two later I lined up all three Fireballs and "Happy days are here again" came out of the speakers. A woman paid me $625, and I was stunned. Hooked on slots forever.
A went back to Foxwoods a number of times that year, never replicating my feat, but never finding my Fireball machine (I told you how confusing I found the place my initial trip). I returned almost a year to the day, and stumbled upon my machine. I watched (stalked?) a man playing it; he built up to 200 credits, cashed out and left. I moved over, said "hows about one more time, old gal?", put in three quarters and lined up the jackpot! Amazing. Another $625, a year later. The same brother who accompanied me on the first trip was there and needless to say he was stunned.
P.S.: sad to say those Fireball machines are long gone....

Well - it was 20 years ago - on a cruise - you would not believe it - early evening just before dinner I hit a royal - and two hours after dinner I hit a second one!
And never hit one again!

Well it's not exactly a "JACKPOT" but last July I went with my husband and brother staying at the Monte Carlo, while they were golfing I went to the spa for my usual manicure and pedicure, after the spa I realized I had sometime to kill b/4 meeting up with them, so I put $50 in the $1 Wheel of fortune a couple of spins later I hit the bonus spin for $500, and away I went with $545the next night after a wonderful meal at Blackstones I wanted to play the same machine, however someone was on it so I just wondered around the Casino and watched my husband play Caribbean Stud, I noticed the machine was empty so I sat down with my $545 and vowed to only lose the $45, well several spins later 3 7's, following almost immediately with a bonus spin and a $1,000.00 hit....I went crazy :) I finally cashed out with $1800, on to that following October, every Oct about 7 of us girls go to Vegas, we were once again staying at the Monte Carlo, my husband had put a $100 dollar bill in my wallet with a note that stated for "Wheel of Fortune" ONLY, so upon arrival our room was not ready yet, several of the girls went to eat and myself and 2 others went straight for "MY" Wheel of fortune well wouldn't you know I put my lucky $100 in couple of pulls later hit the bonus and hit $1000 again.....once again I went CRAZY, well several visits later and no more $1000 spins, but what a ride it was.

Back in September 2001,I actually hit three jackpots on the same row. My wife and I were staying at the MGM in Las Vegas. I put $50 in a Majestic Lions dollar slot and ended up hitting the $1,199.00 jackpot that Friday night.
Saturday after going to a hockey game I went back to the same row I the jackpot on. The third slot machine in the row I hit another jackpot. Then to make things even better, on Sunday before we left to go home I played the middle Majestic Lions $1 slot machine and won another jackpot:D . Needless to say I have not won another jackpot on any coin deminsion(sp) slot machine since then. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Great stories told by everyone. And good luck.

Two stories:
BIGGEST JACKPOT I EVER WON.... Harrah's in Lake Tahoe... quarter machine. Won $250. It wasnt a TITO machine. This was probably 1995 or so. Machine dumped 200 quarters - then an attendant came by and payed me the rest in cash. Pretty exciting stuff... (smile).
BIGGEST JACKPOT I EVER SEEN.... At the airport (yes, here in LV)... Was waiting for my departing SWA flight back to calif. Had 80 minutes to spare. Walked around. Watched the 'fools' playing airport slots. Went to TCBY for a cone & walked around some more. Watched this one fella play the 25-cent W.O.F. progressive machines in the C-GATES. I watched that 'actual' spinning of the reels as he lined em up...... for.....
3.9 million dollars! Yeah, A T the airport.
His face turned about 19 different colors, he kept looking around for his wife (whe finally showed up 10 min later). I looked up @ the display board above the machines @ the jackpot meter instantly read:
$200,000.01
$200,000.02
$200,000.03
so i guess that's what it gets re-set to automatic?

I only play quarter video poker and have hit a Royal 10 times (7 of those within the past 3 years). None - by the way - have been in Vegas. All on Illinois boats. Anyway, most have been hit differently. Once I just kept a jack of clubs, drew & got the rest. Twice dealt flushes with four cards being to a royal; once pair of kings with four cards to a royal; once kept an Ace/Ten (which they say never to hold a ten). So there you go - you just never know!

After a horrendous 4 day losing streak. (We tried Craps, sports, video poker, Poker , and slots. ) We decided this was not our trip so We went to the airport two hours earlier than we had planned just to compose ourselves and get something to eat, and people watch while licking our wounds. We took our last $40 of gambling money, and split it up, figuring that it would not last long at the airport.
I hit 4 deuces on the first pull for $250 , and my wife hit for $100 on a wheel of fortune machine. We cashed in, got some food, and tried again. I hit for another $100 on a bonus poker, and just as I turned my back to brag to my wife, she hit a royal in spades for $1000.
We have both said again that we should , in the future just save hotel bills and get a same day ticket and just play at the airport.
P.S. Have never won anything at the airport since.

What a great topic! It is so much fun to read winning stories!
Several years ago, at the end of a visit to LV that had pretty much picked us clean, we arrived at McCarren only to discover that our flight would be delayed by about 3 hours. With barely any money in our pockets we decided to take a cab down to NYNY and sit in the bar where hubby could nurse a drink and watch the game and I could sit and read. After a bit hubby left for the men's room. After a while I realized he had not returned. Finally, a cocktail waitress approached me and said "Are you the lady who's husband went to the men's room and hasn't returned?" Well, immediately I am having a vision of hubby passed out somewhere with paramedics hovering around him and I'm being found in the bar by a cocktail waitress to go to his side. The waitress, bless her heart, didn't allow me to continue in that line of thought too long, as she reported, "Well he sent me to get you because he just hit a jackpot and is waiting to be paid!" I followed her and lo and behold, there he is grining ear to ear. He had played his last $20 bill on the way back from the men's room in a three play VP and hit his very first royal for a payout of $1200. Well being the gamblers we are, we immediately sat ourselves down at the nearest blackjack table and proceeded to win about $400 more before dashing out to get to the airport on time. What was looking like a losing trip turned into a winning trip only because our flight was delayed.
You just never know...

The only jackpot I ever hit happened at the most opportune time ever! My parents treated my sister and I to a Christmas trip to Las Vegas many years ago when I was in my early 20's (maybe 15 year ago?) They covered the airfare, lodging and food, but my sister and I had to come up with our own gambling money. Well, I was BROKE. I had maybe $200 (thanks to my then boyfriend, now husband) to last a week. Well, the first night we were there, I was playing a quarter blazing 7's machine at the IP where we staying. I wasn't hitting anything on my first $20 and started to quit and move to another machine. An inner voice inside me told me to put $20 more dollars into that machine. Sure enough, on the very next max play, I hit the $1200 jackpot! The rest of the night, I kept winning! I won about $200 playing craps and $100 or so on BJ. The rest of the trip was pretty much losing or breaking even, but I had enough to have fun with and still came home with $1000 to help pay some bills.

My story happened at the Grand Casino in Gulfport ,Mississippi ( no longer there thanks to Katrina ). My wife and I had gone to the casino because I had recieved a mailer from them that offered double points any day a week either side of my birthday. This happened to be the last day the mailer was good, so we decided to go play a bit ( both of us playing on my account ). After playing about $10 on a nickel VP machine, I cashed out and bought anothet $10 of nickels. Then I went over to a nickle video slot ( one of the OLD 8 line types that you could only bet 1 credit per line on ) and put 8 nickles at a time in the machine. After about 30 minutes, I was playing on my winnings when up popped 9 cherries and the machine locked up. Well, it turned out that I had hit the progressive jackpot ffor $8786. Like others here, it took a while to get paid, but we walked away with a $5000 check and quite a few hundred dollar bills in our pockets. This has been over 10 years ago and I'm hoping it will happen again.

It was my birthday weekend trip to Vegas. We stayed at TI. Friday I started playing nickels VP at Mirage. Hit my very first Royal for $200.00. Played nickels the balance of the weekend on their money. Before leaving on Sunday, my husband asked where I wanted to play, for one hour then we were leaving. Of course I said the "Mirage!" Husband went to get ice and gasoline and left me to play. I headed for $.25 VP, first time playing quarters. I played for about 20 minutes, one quarter at a time, then two, then three and was winning alot. So I decided to play MAX Coins in. First time ever playing max quarter bet. I shoved the five quarters into the machine and it dealt me the ROYAL. The old guy, three machines, from me, with the hearing aide, moved because I was screaming so loud. It was a progressive, $1,199. I made them find my husband. As he came through the casino he was asking "What did you do now?" Now he leaves me so that I can hit another Royal. I have hit several but only one with him close by. We left Vegas on that trip with $900.00 of the Royal. It was great. :)

I have hit a number of Royals over the last 10 years but the most satisfying and lucrative was New Year's Eve just three weeks ago. On a $5.00 progressive in the High Limit Room at Green Valley Ranch I struck a diamond royal for $20,700.00. Unfortunately, it came 2 hours too early for the 2007 tax year.

I have hit numerous royals from .05-.25 mostly at one of our 3 local Native American casinos. The last 3 have been dealt to me. But the biggest surprise jackpot came at The St. Croix Casino. My wife and I were playing and taking a beating for the day, when we sat down at a penny machine. She was holding her own, in fact she was up on her machine, and I cashed out a $50.00 win. I cashed in the ticket and was walking back to where my wife was and a Triple Cash machine just called my name.
I stuck a 10 spot in and started playing max credits. I had a few minor wins and when the credit meter was on 25 I hit play and watched the red 7 hit on the first reel, a Triple Cash on the second reel. Now I have had these big "possible jackpots" come around enough to know that the winning symbol will be just above or below the payline. But, that 3rd reel stopped on the Triple Cash symbol. The machine starting singing and the credit meter said call attendant, and it took me a few minutes to realize that I had won 5600 quarters or $1350.00. My first W-2G. Needless to say I bought the lunch that day.

I have hit quite a few Royals in my "gambling career," but this one still shocks me. I was in Atlantic City for the weekend and was having a particularly bad run of luck. Since I'm from NJ, we go to AC for the weekend quite often and I ususally bring $1,000 (or $500 per day) for the trip. Well, it was Sunday morning and I was down to my last $100 (which is quite unusual to lose THAT much over a weekend playing $.25 VP) and I was tinkering around that $100, playing the conservative "Dueces Wild", going up a few dollars and down a few dollars. Our group was all ready to go, hubby was just gathering up our luggage and I had just hit a straight that brought me back up to the original $100 that I started with and I announced that I was done too. I pushed the button to get my TITO ticket for $100, but before I took my card out, I realized that I needed one more hand for my next comp "point" (something that I just recently began to pay attention to at all). For some reason, I told my group to wait, put back in my TITO ticket for the $100 (which, if you knew me, is something I normally would NEVER do as I always like to "round out" my TITO tickets to a round figure...like $100). Well, I put the ticket in, still playing Deuces Wild, with one cheek on the bar stool and one foot on the floor ready to leave, and get 3 cards toward the Royal. Obviously, I held the cards and, you guessed it, up pops the other two cards for the Royal!!! No one in my group, especially me, could believe what we saw! I made my $1000 back and still had that "lucky $100" for an overall win for the weekend...all with one foot out the door! What an unexpected thrill that was for me and one I'll never forget.

My wife hit jackpot two times. One was in the Sahara on a .25 cent "Wild Thing" machine and the other was at Pechenga (local indian casino) on a .25 cent "Betty Boop" machine. However she was only playing with one coin in. "Wild thing" paid $800 and Betty Boop" paid $1000.

My wife and I were playing at the California Hotel & Casino. I was not having much luck and decided to stop playing. I went by my wife to watch her play. She asked me to play by her. I told her that I did not want to play because I did not have any luck. She gave me a roll or quarters and asked me again to play by her. I reluctantly took the quarters (this was in 1995) and sat by a machine on the same row as her. I did not take the next machine, but the one next to that one so there was a machine between where she was sitting and where I ended up sitting. I put in five quarters and had three to the royal. I held the three and would you believe that the other two came right in. I couldn't believe it as I had hit a royal on my first play. My wife said see I told you that you should play. I gave her half the jackpot when I was paid to show my gratitude for her "forcing" me to play.

you would have to understand and watch the way my wife plays slots. Nickle machine, reaches into her purse and pulls out 1 dollar. yes I said 1 dollar. After every spin all the reels must be checked against the pay table posted on the machine. 1 dollar, playing max coin, with no wins will take 5 minutes. When the dollar is gone it's into the purse for 1 more dollar.
We were at the board walk. I sat her in front of a machine and I went to buy tickets for some Elvis singer. I was in line some 40 feet away and could see the reels. She put her dollar in. She hit 3 red 7's and won $40.00. After checking the pay scale she was clueless that she had won $40.00. I yelled over to her you just won $40.00. she cashed out.

I have hit two jackpots. The 1st was at ceasars in atlantic city. I took the bus there with my brother in law and after arriving we went our seperate ways. well I am playing a progressive quarter machine and just feeding my money when I hit for $672.00. My brother inlaw comes over and starts yelling at me that i should have played another machine because the jackpot was higher. i looked at him and asked how much he won and he replied that he had dropped over a hundred bucks. i told him to shut up or I wouldn't by him dinner.
Then three years ago we drove from Houston to Kinder louisiana to the Couschatta casino which is 3 1/2 hour drive. I was playing a 10 times pay and after dumping in less then $20.00 I lined up a triple bar and two ten times for a payoff of $1500.00. i founf my wife a few minutes later and told her lets go home. She said how much are you down, that's when I fanned 15 one hundred dollar bills at her. She smiled got up and it was the best 3 1/2 hour drive home ever.

I live in Las Vegas and have several stories regarding royal flushes. this is the one that lingers ...
I was doing some banking at BofA in Vons. I had ten dollars to spare. Vons had (they may still) a double stakes 25 cent video jackpot. So, in the one empty seat I sat down and put in one five and played two quarters, three quarters and lost the five bucks in a minute.
I put in the second five and betting the same way, hit several special hands. From the second five dollars I now had over$70. The change woman hovered about making disapproving noises at my small bets because of the money I was losing not playing the max.
All of a sudden I was away of royal flush chatter around me and I thought 'royal flush' hm. Okay, I thought, I have $70 I'll play the max and quit at $50. and you guessed it, I hit the royal which paid $2,059 and change.
The change attendant came to me and said 'aren't you the one who was betting two and three quarters and aren't you happy that you just bet the max? Indeed. :

Made quick stop to Ballys for comp cash . Gave 100 to SO and went to ladies room while he played at $1 DDB . Came back . He was just sitting there . He had hit for $400 . Went to cash out TITO and gave him another 100 . Came back sat next to him & was explaining if he got 4A's he would get 800 . Started putting my money away when he looked at me and said " You mean like this ? " He had hit the Aces . Took that $ and ran .
Checked into Hilton . After dinner , he went up , I went to play . Walked past High Limits area and figured what the heck .
Sat down at $5 JOB . Stuck in 100 . Pair here , 2 pair there . 3 clubs come , didn't take notice as to what they were , as I was busy getting $ out for drink tip . Held the 3 clubs & 2 more come up . While paying waitress I notice the machine was slowing applyng the credits ( this machine had a double down feature ) . Quick glance saw all clubs & hit the button to spead up . The screen double down comes up . I finally look at the actual cards , it was a royal flush .
Now I am a nervous wreck as in now way do I want to hit the double down option .
Carefully hit the take win & low and behold the winner sign with 20k comes up . Holy ---- .
Got a 18k check , 2k cash and ran up to the room .
Thinking i needed $ he asked how much now . I took out the 2k cash and threw it all over the bed . He just looked at me and said how much ? I than handed him the envelope , where the response was " what did you do now "
He took out the check looked at me and said Holy --- .

After three days of not winning anythingg on the slots at Excalibur a few weeks ago, I decided I would try just one more machine before heading over to another casino. I sat down at the nickel Monopoly machine and won $1,400. This was the first time in a long time that I have won something like that.
Back in 1997 my husband and I were at the Luxor on Friday the 13th around 3:00 p.m. The casino was fairly quiet and I thought, "I'll never win anything. It's way too quiet and it's a bad luck day." My husband and I were playing on the Triple Diamond quarter progressive with max bet being only 2 quartes. I had just about gone through my roll of quarters (remember when we used to put the coins in?) without even a burp, and I said to my husband, "Here's my last two quarters. I haven't even gotten a cherry."
I wasn't even looking at my machine (I was starring at my husband's because his kept giving little payoffs) when I spun. The next thing I know I hear the constant sound of a win. I had gotten the Triple Diamond, Triple Diamond, Triple Diamond for a win of $1,638!!! I then turned around and sat down at another quarter machine where the maximum win was 1,600 coins or $400. Shockingly, I won the $400 right away. So that was a $2,000 win in a matter of a half hour.
Those are the 2 biggest wins I've ever had and you can see, they came 10 years apart!!

well for those of you who like video poker you will love this story. spent the month of july,06 in vegas because of world series of poker. play a lot of holdem, also blackjack. learned v.p. in early 90s, found it was best way to get lots of free rooms & other great offers from casinos. stayed at 5 different hotels that trip. one twise, golden nugget on 2 diff. offers. on the 1st time there the last of 3/n was playing triple play 1$ 9/6 jacks or better. was dealt a royal $12,000 the wild thing was i was only goin to play $300 on my way to bed, got down to last play when it hit, go figure. check out the next morn. & went to check in at nyny. room wasnt ready so walked around & found a bank of triple play progresves .25 that looked good. put $20 in & started playing 9/6 j.b. about the 4th or 5th hand was dealt another royal, ( the 2nd in less then 24 hrs.) $4,373. best of luck to all, ira player

I was at a trade show in March and was loosing everything I touched. I was at the Bellagio. My senior parents had gone to bed and I was down to my last $20. I put it in a nickel Venice machine, hit the bonus, the bonus retriggered and I cashed out $300. On my way up to my room, the progressive $5 Top Dollar machines were calling my name. Second spin, I hid double Top Dollar for $4200. While I was waiting to be paid, I hit the machine next to me for $3600. I went to the next machine, $1200. I made my way around the carousel, the slot guy on the floor just kept bringing me W-G's since my info was in the computer.
Got up to leave, saw a $5 pinball...second spin, pinball. Started to leave, the slot gal on duty said "You've been really lucky tonight..this is a good machine..keep playing". It was like 3 am and I was exhausted. I had built up like 500 credits..like $2500...when the three double diamonds hit for $8,000. I freaked so bad, the slot guy had to help me dial my cell to call my husband. And my husband kept saying...what are you doing with a guy in the casino at this hour?? When he heard my jackpot, he didn't mind me waking him up..lol!
I wasn't sure how much money I had, but I had them escort me to my room. When I got to my room, I had nearly 25 grand!! And a few hours before I was broke! I know I'll never have another night like that night, but it was soooo much fun!
Then in Sept, another trade show. Again, staying at the Bellagio, I decided to play some 25Cent VP. I had hit the cash machine (a sure jackpot), sat down and some really obnoxious guys were hanging out and annoying everyone. I went to the other side and hit 4 of a kind. Next spin...4 to the royal...hit the button and there it was! $1260 on a progressive! Woo Hoo!
This past December, I was hellbent on getting a royal on the dollar machines at the Bellagio. Hit some quads. Husband was loosing on slots, and he was heading for the cash machine. I sit down, hit 4 aces and a kicker for $2000! While I was waiting for payoff, I hit 4 aces for $800 on the machine on my left. Husband comes back from the cash machine and freaks out. I kept hitting quads, he kept throwing the money in the slots. The next day I hit 4 aces and a kicker again and on the way out of town hit four aces again. My husband couldn't hit a thing and he was actually getting ticked off at me for winning. I LOVED it. ;)
Can't wait to go back!

Mine was actually a series of hits.
It was our last day and we were just killling time in the Excalibur when I hit DD,DD, 7 for $940.00. We rthen started a new tradition of having dinner at Sir Galahads. Following dinner we returned to the slot area and I did the same thing DD, DD, 7 for an additional $940.00 but alas it is time to head to the airport and the long flight back to New Hampshire. At the airport I played the same game and hit it again. I don't want to go home. In the boarding area I was playing a similar machine and hit for the 4th time in about 6 hours. and oh yeah mife wife hit Wheel of Fortune for $1,000.00 at the airport as well. What had been a very uneventfull 10 days ended up as our best $$$ hits ever.
I'm still waiting for my first Royal

Ft. Lauderdale (where I live) has now opened 2 of the 4 approved "real" casinos. There are Native American casinos here (translate: no regulations) which only have Class II machines (translate: bingo odds/payouts, no matter if they show 'normal' games).
I've visited the Mardi Gras casino twice and the Gulfstream casino once. I already have 42 W-2G's. I hit a 10x10xbar for $20,000 on a $10 machine for the biggest win.
For those interested, the "real" casinos have, to the best of my knowledge, the highest mandatory paybacks in the country, 85%. That compares to the legal minimum in Nevada of 75% and I think New Jersey and Mississippi just a little higher than that.
There are funky rules passed by the legislature you should be aware of. The governor (among others) were adamantly opposed to state regulated gaming, so they passed some quirky rules into the regulations (years late even after it was passed into the state Constitution). There are no ATM machines allowed. No smoking inside the casino (damn!). The machines kick out tickets if your meter balance exceeds $1,000 (even for $10 wins). EVERY time you get a W-2G they have to take your Social Security card and Driver's License... you can't just do it once and be in the system. It's not 24/7 either, but close at 2:30am (or so) each evening. Forget about cashing a check, even one given to you by them for a jackpot. I hit for $7,200 and decided I had too much cash and got a check. I tried to cash it the next trip and was flatly (even rudely) refused at Gulfstream. And it was THEIR check, not mine. Also, no alcoholic drinks are free, ever. Again, blame the regulators. They fixed the rules so that if the casino comped drinks, they'd have to comp drinks for all hotel guests as well.
The two that opened are still settling in with people and procedures, but they are enthusiastic and very helpful, FL legislature notwithstanding. The other 2 come on line within a few months. Each of the 4 have a limit of 1500 machines and all will reach that figure this year.
Wishing more jackpots and stories for everyone!

I had just turned 21 and walked over to Treasure Island, to play a few hands of blackjack. I started with $50 and after wining and losing i got lucky. I wound up hitting a blackjack and walked away with $250. I've never had that luck since, but that is one that I will always remember. :D

I've had the good fortune of hitting quite a number of jackpots but understand that it was primarily due to the denominations of VP that I used to play. But there are some of them that stand out.
----------------------------------------------------------
Once I went to see a psychic that I visit about once a year or every 2 years. At the end of the 1/2 hour reading I said to her, I'm flying to Vegas tonite, how am I going to do? At the very, very instant as I had finished my question, she (meanwhile had been flipping over tarot cards) a "Wheel of Fortune" card turned over, immediately followed by a card that read "Wealth". She said to me that I was going to do very well.
Okay, so the next night after I arrived...I headed to the high limit slots area of Caesars Palace. Just as I approached one of my favorite $10 VP triple play machines, a gentleman was right alongside of me reaching the machine at the same time. Being the gentleman (total stranger to me) that he was, he motioned for me to take the seat. No more than 10 minutes into playing, I hit a Royal for $40,000. While I was happy about the jackpot, I felt guilty at the same time. I had only asked to get paid out a little, and the rest I wanted to keep it on deposit to be wired back to my bank, I tipped the slot people $500 and took another $100 bill and gave it to the gentleman. He happened to still be in the area...sitting by a machine and not even playing. (Hmmmm, as I'm writing this reflecting back...perhaps he just wanted to sit down and not even play???)
BTW, the psychic has been right on about so many things in my life...totally uncanny. Makes a believer out of you.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Another time I was at Mohegan Sun in CT...playing the $25 VP triple play machine. I was there with a friend from CA. He had gone off to explore the rest of Mohegan while I sat down to play a bit. After he returned about an hour or two later, as he was approaching, he saw a couple of men standing next to me....he thought to himself, "what did she do now"? At this point I don't quite remember what I hit, but it amounted to $65,000 and the men were there paying the jackpot. When you hit a jackpot like that, you have a choice of getting paid by check or with cash. If you want a check it takes at least a 1/2 hour (no exaggeration) to get one drawn up at Mohegan. Cash is faster. Seeing it was rather late and I didn't want to gamble anymore I asked for cash. Well, they put the cash in a plastic bag....the same ones they use at their stores or for doggie bags...lol. I had asked for a security guard to walk us to my car. They gave me 2 security guards, but I felt that my friend was far more muscular and offered far more protection, but what the heck...I had 3 people to protect my plastic bag, but only 1 that I could count on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Another time I was again at Mohegan Sun and was playing VP on a $5 triple play machine and it was also a double down machine (the game of war option to play should you win a hand). The difference on this $5 machine was that instead of max coins in at 15, it was 30. In essence it was just like a $10 machine should you do 30 coins at $5. I had been playing a while and the machine had been treating me pretty well. Well, you guessed it...all of a sudden a royal flush was dealt to me on the bottom. I was fully loaded. I immediately held all the cards and pushed the deal button. Then there were people (strangers) who saw what had happened and started to hug me...total strangers! But I was so worried that someone was going to push me into the machine....you see, the double down option came up, and I had not yet pushed the no button. Imagine if someone made me accidentally hit the yes button?? I would've died. In case you haven't figured out the jackpot yet, it came out to $120,000! The slot staff saw what was happening and immediately came to my aid. They held out their arms to stop these strangers from rushing me. I then pushed the no button and felt this sigh of relief. When they came to get my information, they asked me how I would like to get paid....I kept saying, "I don't know I don't know" I was trying to calculate if I had asked for it in pennies, how many pennies would there be? lol This time I asked for a check...I didn't care that it was going to take 1/2 hour. To get paid, it actually took longer, because then someone from the Indian gaming commission had to come and check the machine in case I rigged it. Then after they gave the "ok", it took another 1/2 hour before a check could be issued. This is what I call a dream hand.
----------------------------------------------------------------
One of the more amazing winnings I had was incredulous, not because of the amount, but how it happened.
Caesars was having a drawing in their ballroom. Players had put their raffle tickets in this big drum. There must've been about 2,000 people in the ballroom. I grabbed a chair at a table with some strangers near the back. I was telling them the last time I came to such a drawing, this one woman had won twice....she got 2 of her tickets pulled within 10 minutes of each other. I was saying, it's lucky enough to win ONE, but TWO? (Caesars had already started calling off winning raffle numbers). When I finished telling the story of the last drawing and the lucky woman, one of my tickets got called. I was thrilled! It was for $3,500. I quickly went up to the podium and they verified the ticket. Then they asked me to step to the side table where they took down my information and handed me a Celine Dion CD (they were promoting the opening of her new show there). They then called the next number. Silence in the room. No one had come forward. They called it again....still no response. At that point, I looked down at my tickets....LO AND BEHOLD, it was another one of my tickets! When I said I had the ticket, immediate chatter in the room...such disbelief. I got called 2 times in a row! The second winning was for $1,000. I could not believe that with a drum that large containing that many tickets, I got called.
------------------------------------------------------------
Some quickies....
I have been extremely fortunate to have a royal dealt to me on a $1.00 machine on the first hand.
Two more times in my life, I was dealt a royal on the bottom on a triple play machine. Once for 25 cents, and the other $1.00 machine...fully loaded each time.
I once won 3 royals on the same machine within a 2 hour period on a $25 triple play machine. However, I was never fully loaded. I don't even remember how much the jackpots were.
I've won other royals of varying amounts, but some stick out more than others because of how it was won.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Just so everyone knows, I consider myself a low or no roller now. It was fun for a while, but now that I live in Vegas, I don't want to get into that habit again. I now play only 50 cents or $1.00.

I'm a flight attendant with a major airline. I was on a layover in New Orleans, had been at Harrahs for several hours when I realized I needed to get back to the hotel to meet my crew for dinner. As I was walking out I passed by a 25 cent VP machine and figured since I was playing with their money I would put $10 more in. The first draw on my first hand I got a royal, didn't believe it. You know how when no one is playing the machine it will flash a royal, so I thought the cards were phony and started looking for someone to give me my $10 back. A few seconds later I realized it wasn't phony, I was by myself so no one was around to share my excitement. Called my husband back in Houston on my cell and made him walk me back to the hotel so I wouldn't spend any of it. I usually get to Vegas 1-2 times a month (usually 24 hrs or less), so I waiting for it to happen again.

My best AND most nerve racking Royal on a video poker game.... quarters was at a Gas station........ I was down to my last 2 hands..... I used to go to small gas stations and such just to get out of the house, drink a soda amd smoke...kind of "My Time".....anyway to make a short story longer.... I played a 20.00 and it went fast ! wasn't even done with my first smoke yet..and here I was down to 2 hands........it dealt Me a straight flush !! 9-10-J-Q-K of hearts which would have re-plenished my cash and I could have kept playing longer...... Since I don't go to win just get out and relax winning was not the issue BUT when It dealt me the hand for a second i seen a royal flush.... I called the guy from behind the counter over and ask what He would do, he stated He would go with the guaranteed straight flush..... We talked a bit and i finished my smoke, not wanting to push the buttons......Finally I held everything but the 9 and waited somemore.....finally i turned my head and hit deal.......after a few minutes I turned and sure as s*@# it dealt me the Ace.....

There is a night that I forgot about when I posted a few days ago. We were staying at Circus Circus and I was playing nickel Triple Play VP. After playing for a while and hitting pretty well, I was dealt a Royal on the bottom line. Of course, this translated into $600 for all three royals. After getting paid ( hand pay in those days ..... wouldn't want to wait to be paid $600 in nickels lol ) I stayed on that same machine for a bit to see if lightning would strike again. As luck would have it, it did. Not three, but just one Royal this time. After getting paid again, I was going back to our room to tell DW about my luck ( we didn't have cell phones yet ) when I decided to play $100 on 25 cent VP at the Skyrise casino there. Well, about the third or fourth hand I hit again. Another Royal. That made five for the night (in less than 2 hours  ). I just couldn't believe my luck that night. Unfortunately, it has never been repeated, but I can still hope.

I was at the Tropicana in Atlantic City for the day. It turned out to be a $10,000 winning day. Hit two slot jackpots for approximately $2,000 each. The other $6,000 I won playing roulette with $5 chips. Needless to say, it was a very enjoyable and exciting day.:D

The only Royal I ever hit was on December 20th, 2004 in Shreveport, LA.
We had just arrived and checked in at Sam's Town. My husband went downstairs right away and I stayed in the room for a few minutes.
I read my Bible as I usually do at night, then I went downstairs.
I picked an 8/5 $1.00 machine. (I originally thought it was a .50 machine)
I decided I was going to play 40.00 only. (I know that is a ridiculously short bankroll, but I just got there)
I accidently played one max bet (this was a 15 coin max bet machine, not a 5 coin max bet) and I lost on it. Ouch.
I played a few other hands and didn't really get anything exciting.
I had about 20.00 left to play with and I was dealt an Ace of diamonds. At this point, I was just hoping for another ace so I could keep playing for a bit.
And then, BAMM, I drew a King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of diamonds. I was stunned! Winning 4000.00 was so exciting. So many people came by the machine and I was just stunned. It was like I was dreaming!

:D :D I was playing the Joker-blue7-red 7-K-Q-J jackpot machine in KL. I dunno wazisname but, its one of the few machines available locally. I saw the machine up for sale at one of the LV souvenir shops lol.
Joker doubles the payout.
neways I was at a private club and was down bad (abt 2k). so when I hit K/JOKER/JOKER on play screen, which paid over 50 times my ten dollar bet/spin, I opted for the double up feature ( u have to beat dealer draw by choosing one of the three player spin), won once and thought what the hell lets go and break even, hit it again and the dealer showed King which normally meant I'm done for and I looked away in frustration, however I glimpse again at the player line had JOKER/RED7/JOKER showed and the machine blinked "CALL ATTENDANT".
total payout 70k usd wohooooooo.. My wife made a shoppin list when I smsed her the pic lol.
p.s. it was three days before her bday...

My husband and I decided to play some $1.00 slots at Harrahs. I was sitting at a Haywire machine and he decided to play on the next machine which was a 12x machine. Can't say that I've ever seen too many of those machines around. The next thing I knew he was screaming that he hit something big. He hit (2) 12x symbols and a blue 7. He almost fell off his stool when he discovered that he had just won $14,400! The guy came to give him his W2 (boy are we going to get hit with taxes at the end of the year!) and asked if we wanted a check or cash. We took the check (which is guaranteed even if stolen or lost). We then went over to Casino Royale and I was playing on a $1.00 Wheel of Fortune. I hit $1300.00 and cashed out. The last day I went back to Harrahs and played my favorite $5.00 machine and hit $1250.00. We had the best time ever. God help us at tax time. Going back in September.

I hit my very first jackpot on New Year's Eve just before midnight in Dec. '00 at the Riviera. It was a royal flush on a 25c VP machine. I held two cards to the royal and there it was. I was so excited, you would think I won BIG money.
My biggest jackpot was at Harrah's in New Orleans. My friends and I had been playing a 50c VP progressive all day. The jackpot was up to $4,200. After a late dinner at one of New Orleans' great restaurants, my hubby and I went back to the casino. Everyone else called it a night. Bob went to the craps tables and I went back to the VP progressive. There were only 4 other people playing. I hit the jackpot of $4,327 around midnight. The other four people got up and walked away, without saying a word. Collected my winnings and my tax form and called it a night. That was a great payoff at a 50c machine.

My biggest win was this past April, was not doing anything but loosing. I figured was going to try keno, figuring it would take longer to play, so it would take longer to lose.
Sat down at a $.50, $1, $2 machine, put it on $.50; picked seven numbers, hit the start. Another person set down two machines away and hit seven of seven on $1 for $14,000. I figured that was the way it had been going this entire trip, with me being on the wrong machine, was talking with the person while just hitting the play button on my machine.
Then I realized that my machine was not doing any thing, turned around and looked, it is flashing hand pay for $7,000. I had hit seven of seven. Think I will have to try the keno on my birthday trip, September 21 to 24. :)

I've only hit one royal and that was on a 10 cent machine, no big deal. A few years ago I hit $6000 on a $5 machine, (the next day $4800 on the same type of machine), and last fall I hit $10,000 on a dollar machine.

my most surprising win came on Aug. 3. I was in Harrah's Council Bluffs and was playing $1 DDB when I was dealt an ace. I kept the ace and couldn't believe my eyes when I was dealt the other three aces and a deuce kicker. $2000, with the state of Iowa witholding $100 for taxes(now I have to file to get that back!!!)..anyhow..what a surprise win for me!!

Well I'm going back many years. Santo Tours out of Buffalo NY were the worse but they were the only way to go at that time. We were to leave at 5 pm on sunday and we left at 5 am. Arrived at the Maxim Hotel. Went and sat down in the keno parlor. Played 6 numbers for 1.00 and hit 1500. I was in the hotel for about 5 min. Great way to start a trip.
This is a really fun thread this week.

My wife and I were at Planet Hollywood in June, and we were at the Heart Bar playing VP and I was getting killed. She was holding her own and I decided to switch to something where I wouldn't have to think too hard... alcohol induced stupidity I guess.. so I switched the game to plain old everyday keno.
I had 7.50 left on the machine so I picked 6 numbers at a $1.00 a game. First game... 6 out of 6 for $1660.00 . That stopped the bleeding and was cause for a cigar and a drink.

1996 at the Stardust. My first time to Vegas. We were attending a trade show. My Mom and I flew out to LV 2 days earlier than my husband, so we had 2 days to explore. I think the Wheel of Fortune machines were pretty new at the time, but what do I know, it was my first time in a Casino. I put $20 in a .25 machine and hit something that made the machine SING! I had hit $750! My mom was more excited than I was. I really did not know what I had hit. Sweeet! :D I have been back to LV about 6 times since and have not hit any jackpots.
I hit $850 on a .25 machine at the Grand in Biloxi pre-Katrina. I seemed to do better in Biloxi (before the hurricane) than Vegas. At least I could hit some mini-pots there and come home with some money left.

This subject is getting me amped up! The only jackpot I hit was in New Orleans. I was there for Super Bowl week in 1996. I hit for $1199 on a slot. I wish I could remember what it was but I can't. I do remember the thrill of the hand pay. Hopefully I will get another one this weekend!

My biggest win was just this week. I was playing the .50 slots, Crystal 7, ( I think that is the name) when all of a sudden the lights flashed & the bells went off. My sister & I could not figure out what I won until we read the pay chart. I hit a bar with a 7 on it on reel 1, then a 7x bar on reels 2 & 3 which was 100 coins for 3 bars times 49 for the 2 & 3 reels for a total win of $2,450. My biggest win ever.:)

About 6-7 years ago I was playing video keno at Fitzgerald's....I had already been there for hours, not hitting much, but still racking up a few credits here and there. There was a guy sitting next to me also playing. He didn't play very long and after about 10 minutes he got up to leave....leaving 4 credits in the machine.
So, I looked around to make sure he wasn't coming back. I reached over and hit the play button and hit 5 out of 9 for $1.50...6 more credits. I was playing my machine and kept reaching over to play off the credits on his machine and next thing I knew I hit 8 out of 9 on his machine. I was in total shock when the light went off! I hit a jackpot for $1199 using his numbers! That's definitely a win I'll never forget!
Another favorite jackpot win was on my birthday, which is New Years Eve. We've been out to Vegas a few times for my birthday and my wish was to win a birthday jackpot but I was never very lucky. Then on my 36th birthday I was up early playing video keno and almost right away I hit a jackpot for $413, 7 out of 8 numbers. I was so happy....I finally won the birthday jackpot!
I changed machines while I was having my morning coffee, also waiting for dh to get up. I kept playing the 8 numbers and couldn't believe my eyes when I hit 8 out of 8 for $2500!!! I was out of the chair jumping around and screaming....my husband had just come down & heard me and thought I was being attacked or something. It was pretty funny...he couldn't believe it either when he found me and saw the jackpot. It doesn't take much to get me excited LOL....anyway, these are two jackpots I'll never forget. I can't wait to go back next week.:D

My brother and some friends were in town for The Big Smoke one year. We were at The Silverton doing a little gambling late one night walking through the casino. We stopped at a $5 Wheel of Fortune machine and I put a $20 in it (two spins). My brother looks at one of our friends and says, "Watch him hit the jackpot." Spin #1, nothing. Spin #2 WHEEL OF FORTUNE! You know on a $5 Wheel of Fortune machine the lowest win on the wheel is $100 so, I knew I'd get my money back + regardless.
Hit the "Spin" button and round and round she goes, parking right on the $1000.00 mark. My brothers jaw hit the floor and our group of friends went crazy because my brother called it. For some reason, my brother thought he was entitled to half (jokingly)....haha..think again.
Two years later, same group of people walking through the same casino but this time with our father, which we'd told this story to. Stopped at the same machine and re-told the story. I put a $20 and my brother said pre-pull, "no way in hell." Pull #1 WHEEL OF FORTUNE... .....It was only $400.00 this time..................and a great story.
Cheers!

in atlantic city, a few years back, i hit 3 royals in one day. 2 for 4k a piece on dollar machines and an 8k hit on a 2 dollar machine. the first 2 were at trop. hit one then, while waiting to be paid, hit another on the machine right next to it. went down to caesars and hit the 8k about two hours later. i then went over a year and a half without hitting again. i have hit for 20k on 5 dollar machines but not as fun as the 3 in one day.

We are primarily video poker players. Over the years we have hit a few royals, but this was the most fun.
At the end of a 4 day trip in which we had horrible luck and had lost our gambling budget early each day. We had given up and decided to head to the airport a couple of hours early.
We each decided to spend a last $20 and play a litle at McCarran to pass the time. I hate VP at the airport because of the lousy paytables.
Within 5 minutes, I had hit 4 deuces at a deuces wild machine for $250 , and the wife hit 4 aces on a double bonus for $200.
We celebrated with a couple of drinks, decided to play some more, and the Mrs. hit a royal. for $1000
We kidded each other for a long time that we should just book a round trip with the same day return, and never leave the airport.
On our last trip in July, was our best luck. we each hit a royal, and, at the airport, she hit 4 aces sith a deuce on a double double bonus for $500. We left town $2200 up for the trip, and were able to upgrade to first class on the return trip.
The airport remains lucky for us. We have a trip in November, and are considering playing there when our flight arrives until checkin time.

I have been in Vegas three times since January and only hit for $1,000 on a Dollar Slot. On 10/1 I was at a local Indian Casino in New Mexico and hit on a nickel slot for the progressive - I understand it was tied into Vegas - I hit for $65,934.78. I had to stay on the chair - too weak to stand. They pay in cash - it took forever to strip the machine, fill out paperwork and get the money. Went to the bank the next a.m. and put it into a CD. I am still in shock!

I have yet to hit a Royal, but I have hit 4 Deuces for $1000 a few times.
My memorable jackpot story is actually my girlfriend's story. We were at the Hard Rock and she was playing nickel slots when the machine locked up. It was a 5-reel machine. I don't remember what sequence she hit, but it was enough credits that it required a hand pay. It was fun to watch her get a hand pay of around $65 in the middle of the Hard Rock. We have both had much bigger wins, but that is the only hand pay so far.

Husband and I went to Harrahs in Laughlin. Sitting at the bar, chatting with other players, not paying attention, and bad mouthing the machine that it wasn't paying anything to me, when the Royal hit. $1200. Less than 24 hours later, I had been bugging the husband to go to the Edgewater. Finally, we headed to the Edgewater, playing at the bar. When I hit the 2nd Royal for the weekend, I yelled so loud that husband almost fell off his bar stool, I won a progressive 25 cent Royal. He now pays attention to me when I want to play somewhere specific.

During our last visit we were down on freemont street, mostly to play at mermaids because we love the drink service there- LOL :)
On our way to head to the taxis we wandered through Golden Nugget. We stopped in this small room off of the main casino, off of a hallway near the I think check in desk. They had the multi player monopoly big event there. We played those for a few minutes, and my husband hit a jackpot and won like 1400.00. It was really unexpected. I usually dont like playing in areas that are hidden like that because I feel you are to hidden and probably wont win..but, we won!

Another story about my beautiful wife Delia. We had been going to the Indian casinos in the Central Valley (CA) and at the end of June '07, she was playing the Triple Money slots ($1) and she calls my name "Joe!" I'm thinking, she's going to show me a hundred dollar win. Well, she actually wins $4,200! That is the first jackpot winner I had ever know. Then 5 weeks later, it is August and she is playing another dollar machine, she is already up $ 700, I said, play it down to $500 and we'll go to another machine, when she hits $10,000!! We could not believe. It was one of those 2X, 5X, 10X slots. She had a 10X-10X-Red7!
I finally won at a casino near Fresno. A $3,200 jackpot, on a dollar machine. We had already been gambling for 8 hours and we were down to our last $20 we had allocated for our trip. My wife suggested a quarter machine and I said no, I want us to win some money. We were down to our last $13 when I hit the jackpot. I was so relieved that I won, as I know there are lots of people gambling for years and never hit a jackpot. I had some good luck over the New Years vacation. First day we entered a slot tourney at the El Cortez, she came in 11th, and the next day I ended up winning the whole thing. It was $250. Then the next night I won a $1250 jackpot on quarters, it was the triple double slot.
We are looking forward to our next trip on the 15th of March.

Jeffrey very interesting must tell me how you handle 5 1/2 hr plane trip I went to AC and 5 1/2 hr I was ready to jump out the plane crazy I want to go to AC again but got to figure out how to handle the long ride. Anyway e-mail me I love to play $5 machines but never know what type of bankroll to allow for these machines - what do you think. e-mail me beach3993@juno.com

I was going to Terribles Hotel and Casino to play blackjack and there was a dealer on the table I wanted to play that I didnt really care for. I sat at a machine where I could see the table and was going to play slots until he went on break. I stuck in 40 dollars, pressed "max bet" and realized I was on dollars. I held the A, J, Q of hearts and it dealt me the rest for a 4,000 royal! On a five dollar bet!
The kicker is that 10 days later, I was drunk from hanging out with some friends who were in town from Chicago.......went back to the casino and hit another one for the same amount!
I havent been that lucky since..lol
I have freinds who go to Vegas 3 or 4 times a year. Every time they come back, they always tell me how much they won. Yesterday they got back and said they won over $12,000, playing video poker on a dollar machines. My experience at AC, Biloxi, Reno, and Vegas have never been this great. I was wondering if any one else has ever been this lucky, or should I just credit my freinds story as plain BS!!

This happened a few years back at the Blue Chip in Indiana when I hit the 2 coin $1 machine for $5000. A couple of months later at Ft. McDowel in AZ, playing the last machine available I hit a 3 coin quarter machine for $3000. Has been down hill since. Sherry

Now that I live in Vegas, my parents come to visit about 2 or 3 or sometimes even 4 times a year... I love it because I get to play on "Dad's money" which means I get to push the buttons, he keeps the wins, eats the loses.
Well last year when my parents came to visit, they also flew in my sister. The night before my sister gets into town, we were playing the annoying spin poker video poker game, my dad had just played out his free play and was still at max bet on 25 cents ($45 pull) and my mom holds the Q and 10 same suit and what comes up is a royal. $4000 bucks. The next day we were playing Wheel of Fortune (I hate this game, the one with the wheel in the middle) and we hit about $300 on it, then we break even on another silly game. While my sister was in town we started playing the 100 hand video poker machine. We kept saying if we get to $1000, we quit, if we get to $2000 we quit. We kept going up. Changed it to $1500 and $2500, we were about to do another pull and I looked down and realized we were at $1800 even. I said quit and we did. Next thing I know my Dad hands both my sister and I $200 each to go play on. To me that $200 was the best win I ever had.

I played a $1 Black Gold machine a few years ago. Put in $100, played down 32 credits, and hit for $10k. That was the sweetest/biggest win for me in LV. On our last trip, my DH hit for $4k on 10x pay machine. After getting paid out, he moved to a 12x machine and hit for $2k, and while waiting to be paid out on that he hit for another $1k on another 10x machine. He also hit a bunch of $1k wins on various $1 machines. :D

I have another story, but this time it's not mine. It's my's friends story. He and his family were in Vegas staying at NYNY. His MIL fell in her bathroom and got hurt, so his wife and DBro and DSis took MIL to the hospital. They could only fit 5 in the car, so along w/ everyone else's spouses, there was no room in the car for our friend. He is a diehard craps player. He told us he never played slots ever, and had a hard time believing our tales of our wins. Well because of the stress of the MIL going to the hospital, he wasn't feeling the tables that day. So he meandered over to the WOF slot machines. He put in $100, played a bit and....
.
.
.
.
nothing...He noticed a woman next to him went to the bonus round and hit for $30. He said she was so excited, she started hooting and hollering because she was so happy to get her money back and be up $10. (Or something like that!) Anyway, she cashes out. And he thinks that her machine must be a good one since she got to the bonus round and he didn't despite playing longer than she had. So he moves over to her machine. I believe he said he put his ticket in and played it up to $120 and he played that down about 41 credits, then...
.
.
.
.
he hit for $4,057,000 !!!! When he hit it, he didn't even know what happened because he doesn't play slots. He thought the machine was jammed up. Then a guy sitting next to him points up to the progressive and told him, you just hit the progressive for $4 million. He started screaming, I just quit my %$^&*#) job!" EVeryone in the casino heard him screaming, and sure enough the lady that just got up from the machine came back and saw what happened and was not happy. Oh well...
So he calls his son and tells him to tell his mom (who was still at the hospital). The cell phone wasn't working in the hospital, but when she finally got to an area where she could get reception and heard the message, she called her son (because now DH phone wasn't reaching in the depths of the casino) and he told her what happened. She still didn't believe it. She told me that she told her DBro and family that if her husband was joking she wasn't amused and would deal w/ it appropriately when they got back to the hotel. Well needless to say, they are both happy campers right now. This was back in October of last year.
We had just gotten in early that morning. So he calls us later that afternoon (it took about 6 hours for the casino to verify that it was a real win), and asks how we're doing, are we up yet, etc.? And I said, yeah we're up a bit, but we just started, so you never know. Then I asked, how are you guys doing? And he said, "I just won $4 million 57 thousand dollars." I said, "You're full of &%$)!" And he said very calmly, "No, I just won $4,057,00." I said, "playing what?" And he told me the whole story. So I still thought he was yanking my chains and I told him, "Here talk to DH." So DH gets on the phone and at first he can't believe it either. But it was true! DH and I never play those types of machines, (we always say, do you know how many millions of people play those machines and never win?) but you can bet we will try them from now on!
Oh yeah, our friend has retired from his job, but his DW is still working, she has enough invested in her retirement that she's going to stick it out. They are being very smart about their finances and still living the same, so that's a good thing!
May we all have wins like this!

Wow, what a great story! And I know the casino has to verify the win, but 6 hours? I would be stressing, hoping there had been no malfunction. Can you imagine? Thinking you won 4 million, then finding out, "Ah, we can't pay you, we found a machine malfunction." Talk about cruel, I think I would pack my bags that very minute and go home, never to return. Good for your friends, it sounds like they are level headed and smart about their money.

That would be a cruel nightmare. I agree 6 hours is way too long to verify the jackpot. He said they had to call the people from IGT to come and inspect the machine, and of course that involved waiting around for them to show up, and then their guys inspected the machine, then they had a bunch of paperwork, he had to decide lump sum or annuity (they actually let him take a few weeks to decide). Oh yeah and they moved them to the Presidential suite. I would be on pins and needles the whole time wondering if they were going to tell me, "Oh sorry, we made a mistake. The machine malfunctioned!" I was at one of the Indian Casinos here in CA, and I was playing a dollar machine, when all of a sudden to my left, a bell started ringing and my wife went to check it out. She said, "The million dollar light is on, I think he won. Well, after that slot took my money I went to see for myself. I asked him, hey what happened, as I saw his machine and he did not have any winning combinations at all. He said, "I don't know, they are checking." Right away, I saw that it had to be a malfuction, but I think he was under the impression that he had one. I found out later that it was, and all they gave him was the 3 dollars he had left in the machine. If that happened to my, I would get the hell out and be pissed off.
When my wife won her $10K they kept doing tests on the machine for about 10 minutes. We were getting pissed. But I'm glad it worked out good for your friend.

Wow, when I won my 10k all they wanted to know was did I want it in cash or check. I told them check, so it took longer than normal to get paid off but they didn't check the machine at all. They kept the jackpot up showing it hit until they had my w2g and check ready to give me, then they asked me to clear it by spinning again. We always gamble at the same places so I know the slot people; maybe that's why they didn't check the machine?

We got back from Vegas a few days ago. My DH won 13 Jackpots and I won 14. All downtown. It was the most jackpots I've ever won on a single Vegas trip. Since it takes money to make money, we only came home up a little over 7k from when we left, but it's a win nonetheless.:D We use our winnings to pay for anything not comped, and for tips; also to buy stuff so we know we're going to bring some of it home before we get caught up and leave la la land broke. It's a superstitious thing, but we believe that if we don't spend some of it, we may very well end up giving it all back, and we don't want to do that.;) In addition to the wins, we bought about $1000 worth of electronic equipment using our winnings. :)
ETA: We also always 'pay back' our original bankroll or whatever we take out of the money we bring to play with first before doing anything else.
