View Full Version : A minor request for titling Trip Reports on the web

Here's a thought . . . . "Steve's trip report" or "Bob's Trip Report" or "Bad Experience" doesn't help me out, unless I want to begin reading the latter solely to prey on the misery of others. Why don't we all title the threads with the name of the hotel we stayed at, so the readers can pick and choose the reports they read. I don't particularly care that Circus Circus or the Las Vegas Club was dark, dirty and crappy, because I know that already. If someone had trouble at the Las Vegas Hilton, I'd read that in a minute. I don't have time to sort through Stan, Fred, Hilda and Terry's reports, so I end up not reading any of them . . . ..

Don't know if I agree with this. A trip report is not based entirely and where someone stays. It's based upon many things. So if a title such as "Steve's Bellagio Vacation" is used and only 25% of the Trip Report deals with the Bellagio, I don't think the title does the Trip Report justice. Also you have to consider that if a person happens not to like the "lead-in" hotel, they won't read the Trip Report based upon that.

I agree with CeeJay. I would like hotel names in the trip report titles. That doesn't mean I would read the rest, but it would be easier to refer back to a TR if needed, if you had a hotel reference.

I agree with Fl Mary (Hi Mary). I think by having the hotel/casino's name, will make up my mind on which trip reports I would like to read. There are some, I just don't care about. It would save a lot of time.

Then perhaps trip reports could be titled based upon the substantive issue discussed . . . . . Good feedback.

Good feedback! I was thinking the same thing as I scanned the trip report post titles.... Substantive issues discussed works well for me! :D

Maybe the whole title could just be a hit list of the report.
Kinda like this:
NYNY/ Monte Carlo/ Red Rock Canyon/ First Royal Flush
OR
Southwest Air/ Dollar Rental/ LVH/ GN/ BJ tourny

I love the trip reports with varying information and I bet those that haven't been to Vegas or are newbies visiting the city appreciate all comments regarding hotels etc. I myself scan to the gambling information be it the blackjack payout on tables, different slot machines and where they are and the payoffs, etc. Personally, I don't care about the food or restaurants. I love the long trip reports that "take me away" and forget about everything else when I read these reports during my coffee break at work. It is so nice that everyone on forum is one-of-kind and different in their interests, and that makes this site so wonderful.

extra long reports don't bother me. I'm not too thrilled about "adventures in dining." If that's all you have to say, no offense intended, that should be the title of the thread. What I'll do is place my cursor on the title and up comes the first sentence or two. If it looks interesting I'll continue - if not I move on. Details about gambling- good, bad, or so so, do not bore me. Any thread that mentions slots gets my attention. I love details, but find that few keep notes on what, when, and where, and memory sometimes fails us. I can remember each of my jackpots like it was yesterday. Unfortunately there are not that many.

I have to agree with Steve on this one. Dates are enough for me, adding the name of hotels that someone stayed at is nice, but there is so much more than just the hotel in a good trip report. Not reading because you don't care for the Plaza means you may miss out on a great dinner someone had at Golden Nugget or somewhere else. JMO of course.

Some interesting thoughts here. Think I like a combo of some of them; maybe post the title with hotel/casino and date.

I'll drink to that. Personally, I think the name and the date are just fine.

Steve no matter what you do or the person writting the trip report, it will not make everyone happy!
I just like the over all site and like it or not there are some reports that try and impress - "I get comps here free food there" that does not tell me anything that interests me! Nor do I care what you - they get - but reading all the reports may give me something new and that's good!
I say bring it all on it's Vegas baby!

I agree..it is so hard to read the Trip Reports if they are not broken down into paragraphs.

I agree.
As I was reading some trip reports, I was saying to myself that they should put in paragraphs to make it easier to read. It's very hard to read a report without paragraphs!
Thanks for mentioning it Vegas Vic!

Everyone has varying tastes in what information they want to see in a trip report. Some prefer just to see details concerning the gaming. Others, like myself, prefer long reports that details the whole Vegas experience.
I have been going to Vegas for years and not stayed in all the hotels so I prefer to read the details of a particular hotel, i.e., have they remodeled, changed management, etc. I much prefer a full report.
I do agree the titles could be more specific but I think that will get better with time and experience in using the forum.

C'mon, now . . . Next you'll be asking for the occasional period or comma . . . ;)

Interesting requests...I totally agree with Vic on the paragraph request. Otherwise, hotels are not really the thing for me, as I ALWAYS stay downtown (usually the Lady Luck-I usually spend less than 24 hours on the strip and my trips average 4-5 days at least six times a year). I read the trip reports as a 'getaway from reality, seen through others eyes'. It is what it is, a viewpoint. Skip some, read others.
