"NOW, THAT'S ITALIAN!" DESCRIBES RISTORANTE ITALIANO
AT RIVIERA HOTEL & CASINO

"Now, That's Italian!" is a phrase that describes only a select few Italian restaurants, and Ristorante Italiano in the Riviera Hotel & Casino is one that can claim that honor.

Ristorante's fare features homemade pasta dishes such as conchiglia pescatori (sea shell pasta with clams, scallops, shrimp, calamari and mussels), fettuccine a la vongole (baby clams sautéed with a choice of red, white or primavera sauce), and linguini con pesto (tossed with fresh basil, garlic, fresh Italian tomatoes and pinenuts) to name a few.

Other specialties that will pique the palate of any gourmet diner include veal chops stuffed with spinach and gorgonzola cheese, chicken breast with prosciutto ham and roasted garlic sauce, and broiled salmon topped with a fresh tomato marinade. Long-time house favorites include lobster fra diavolo, veal parmesan, three-meat lasagna and the fresh catch of the day.

The earthy cooking of Tuscany and the northern Italian countryside, seasoned with a dose of Milanese class, is showcased in this upscale though informal restaurant that brings thoughts of Venice happily to mind. A room-length mural of Venice streets and canals greets visitors as they enter the room. A beamed, darkwood ceiling and faux-brick walls decorated with greenery and Renaissance paintings complete the ambiance.

In addition to the homemade pasta dishes and other specialties, Ristorante features an array of hot and cold appetizers, spinach and Caesar salads prepared at your table, antipastos and a spectacular dessert cart. A comprehensive wine list and cocktails are available to complement your meal choices.

Ristorante Italiano at the Riviera is open nightly, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Dress is casual and reservations are recommended. Call 794-9363, or click on www.rivierahotel.com.

My wife and I ate at Ristorante Italiano two years ago using an Entertainment discount. The room and service are old style. My wife had chicken Angelo and I went with the linquine pescatore. Both dishes were very good (i.e. 4 Forks).

This is one of our favorites. They treat us very well and the food has always been excellent. The breadsticks wrapped in prosciutto and drizzled with honey are always set on the table along with fresh bread. The warm spinach salad is one of our must haves. Cheryl ordered the eggplant parmegiano last visit and it was the best either of us have ever had. We try to stop in once a year around our anniversary. A few years ago when I mentioned that it was our 35th the waiter brought out a huge slice of a Black Forest type cake for our dessert and it was great:) . The Ristorante has had a 2 for 1 in the Entertainment Book for the last several years and its a real bargain. While the Riviera may have seen better days as a hotel/casino this is one very good place to dine.
